Whatever you do, you need to get a Z87 motherboard. If you do not, then you won't be able to take advantage of the K-series processor and overclock it.

... don't recommend him a 199 dollar motherboard

any random biostar/asrock/msi/asus z87 mobo that costs 80-100 dollars will function and perform exactly the same for the OP
