Help me decide: Note 4 or iPhone 6 Plus

If you're a power user, or a person who needs to get a lot of work done on the go, get the Note 4.

If you use your phone mainly for games, browsing and camera, get the 6 Plus.

They're both good phones. I asked myself the same question a couple of months ago and ended up with the Note 4 since it's multitasking features and S Pen are really important to me (I went from Note 2 to Note 4).

I really like my Note 4 btw.

You said the post hurt your brain.

Really? First time I am hearing of this.

It hurts my brain because i really can't see how iOS could be more intrusive than Android.

A quick google search will tell you that what i said is true.

By the way watching your other posts i suggest to stay on android.

Had to make that decision a few weeks ago. Picked the note 4 and dont regret it one bit.

Better battery
Stylus
Better screen
Heart rate monitor
Ultra power saving mode
etc

To each their own though

Here's the other thread for reference: http://m.neogaf.com/showthread.php?t=959710

Thanks!

If you found iOS confusing, you definitely don't want Android. Get 6 Plus.

I use Android a lot and find it intuitive.

I am not a power user, but also like to be productive on my phone. Very much in the middle ground. By the way, what are some notable things you can do quickly with S Pen? How well does it work?

I know that the majority think iOS is simpler, it was just how I feel. Most likely due to the fact I never used iOS. Appreciate the feedback.

Go with the iPhone 6+ if you're interested in any gaming at all on your phone.

Go with the Note 4 if you're interested in S-Pen or productivity features.

Agreed completely with this advice.

One thing I really think gets overlooked is fingerprint security on iPhones. Do any androids phones do this? Because it is one of the best features for me. This in combination with Apple Pay makes it a no brainer to me but you may not care about either of those things.

Note 4 has a fingerprint scanner and google wallet which is pretty similar to apple pay.

Well let's see, I love customization, use a ton of gmail, don't read ebooks (have kindle for that), and play games only selectively.

Now, I like to backup all of my text messages to a special email account. How is iMessage backed up and what makes it better than Android messaging?

I don't know how iMessage handles it, but GChat does it perfectly well. As for standard texts, I'm sure there's an app that handles it, but I don't know for sure.

Honestly, based off of what I'm reading and how you're replying, you won't be disappointed by the Note 4 in any way. The S-Pen is fun (albeit selective in it's use for average users), the battery is tremendous, the screen is incredible, the processor is awesome, the camera is great...Most of these things can be said about the iPhone, too. However, I think you're better off going Note 4. People will suggest Nexus, LG, etc. But if you are looking at Note 4 vs 6+, Note 4 seems to fit the bill best.

Plenty of gaming to be had on Android, get that old biased shit outta here...

He's not wrong. There ARE games, but the latest and greatest often times come out on iOS first (and maybe never come to Android).

Can't comment on the Note 4, but while I love my 6+, it's the first iPhone I've had that is begging for an 'S' variant. Despite iOS being so optimized for the iPhone and making that 1GB of ram really go as far as possible, there is moderately frequent crashing in the browser and iOS 8 itself is horribly below par in terms of stability by Apple standards. One example of a bug is notifications preventing orientation switching between landscape and portrait. It's something that happens dozens of times a day which makes it really obnoxious.

My criticisms are mostly minimal compared to how much I enjoy the phone, but I feel that it's important to disclose those issues.

Totally forgot about the stylus included with the Note 4. Sometimes I really wish Apple included one with the 6 Plus.

Camera wise, IIRC the 6 Plus blows the Note 4 out of the water.

Saying the Note 4 has a fingerprint scanner is kind of a joke, if you have any sort of case on your phone, good luck using it.

Stylus is fun, but as I said, it's sort of "meh". I DO love how I can whip up a quick sketch or mark on a picture with ease, though.

Camera wise, I can't comment on the 6+. My Note 4 takes awesome photos, but the 6+ may have an edge for some aspects. However, when it comes to mobile phone cameras, it's impossible to be disappointed by either in terms of the general quality of picture you're getting.

The same can be said with the pulse detector thing. I wouldn't buy the Note 4 for either of these features.

I used and iPhone 3GS for three+ years, then switched to a Nexus 5 and found Android confusing at first, and I missed the Apple ecosystem. Got an iPhone 5 shortly after and I'm using an iPhone 6 right now. So I guess it all depends with the OS/ecosystem you're confortable with, if you like Android go with the Note 4 Nexus 6.

Edit: I must add, coming from an iPhone 5 the touch ID on the 6 is so worth it, it really wasn't something that pushed me over the new model and I used to be very skeptical when the 5S came out but hell it's great unlocking it without having to slide, my favorite feature by far. Camera's amazing as well.

There's a massive difference in the number of titles when it comes to game. I was looking for Phoenix Wright: Dual Destinies for Android, nope not available. That's such a good game too.

If you own other Apple products and you're fine with iOS, then go for it.

If not, Android is the best choice.
Get the iPhone and you will be happy even two years from now.

If you go for the Samsung, you will be kicking yourself in 10 months since they will release a new version and stop supporting yours because fuck you. That's Android and that's Samsung.

Hyperbole yada yada.

Making the switch from iOS to Android today, myself. Although on older phones. (iphone4 to LG G2, free phones and all that)

I'm excited as I use google everything these days anyway, and was getting tired of iOS, especially after playing around on other phones.

iOS is polished but feels limited unless you jailbreak. Android feels more like a PC where you have lots of options to tweak thing as you like. App inopeerablity is really good, you can default any app to do various things unlike ios, and the Google integration is obviously better.

6 Plus camera is most likely better, but there's no blowing and no watering.

Don't know why you'd be so torn, usually people have a preference when it comes to iOS vs Android. Personally iOS felt too limiting so I don't think I can ever go back to it. There are some notable hardware differences too, like no microSD (doesn't matter too much if you have a 64/128GB iPhone though), removable battery and stylus with the iPhone, while the fingerprint scanner and build quality are inferior in the Note 4.

Saying the Note 4 has a fingerprint scanner is kind of a joke, if you have any sort of case on your phone, good luck using it.
Not really. I've had a case since I got my Note 4 and have been using the fingerprint scanner to unlock the phone with little issue, certainly faster than the other unlocking methods for me. Usually when people have a problem with the fingerprint scanner it's because they didn't register their fingers properly.

That is really not true, some sites even put the Note 4 above the iPhone. Neither phone's camera blows the other out of the water.

That must be why there is no more Note 3 support. Oh wait...

From my personal experience

Note 4 Pros

Great screen
Great battery
Good camera
S-Pen (though its limited to mostly Samsung apps), great for doodling at least
Multi-tasking (also limited to certain apps but you can glitch it out into working with unsupported apps)
Removable battery
SD-card support

Note 4 Cons

Touchwiz
That pleather back (better than the Note 3 at least)
Fingerprint scanner is a joke
S-Bloat (S-Voice, chatON, S-Wallet, Milk, S-Educate and a bunch of other half baked garbage, S-Note probably being the only useful one)
Touchwiz
Touchwiz
Touchwiz

iPhone 6/6+ Pros

Great screen
Great battery
Great camera
TouchID
Apple Pay
iMessage
iOS app ecosystem
64/128GB variant
Apple hardware

iPhone 6/6+ Cons

iOS is stale
Phone is too damn big/huge bezels
No multitasking
Less RAM
Just feels like a big phone unlike the iPad which has tablet specific apps
Same old

I've had plenty of hands on time with both. I'd say the Note 4 is the better device overall if you're willing to give up all the S-Pen/S-Apps functionality (likely) and going with a clean Lollipop rom. You'd have a great pure Android device with some great hardware. If that's not the case, I'd just go with the 6/6 Plus as it provides an overall better experience out of the box.

Best thing about the video is that the end of it shows shots with no label and you get to see what one looks better without knowing what camera it is from. I always thought the samsung looked better. Even in low light it looks better for pics and video. I would love to see an example of "blowing out of the water" by the iPhone though.

That video and this Flossy Carter review https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LR4r-RGoXEs has sold me on the Note 4 for sure. Granted I get 2 weeks with the phone to test it and have the opportunity to return it to att paying a restocking fee I still feel like it is the better phone and just missing a few games. Even crossy road made its way over to android and plays fine.

Went from an iPhone 4 to a Note 2, then Note 3, then decided to jump back to iOS with an iPhone 6 Plus after finding out that Apple has introduced extensions and third party keyboards.

Maybe those features aren't mature enough (for instance, I fuckin LOVE how in Android, you can share or open any image in practically any app that supports it.) and maybe I'm too much of a poweruser (I like to switch between different photo editing apps to take advantage of features that each app does very well. VSCO to me allows for better exposure adjustment than say, Litely or Instagram. But more often than not, bringing up Safari in the middle of editing a photo with those apps meant that the third or fourth last used app gets rebooted; any edits I made in that app is gone).

Traded my iPhone 6 Plus for a brand new Note 4. Couldn't be happier.

Agreed completely with this advice.

I'm the latter so Note 4 is more pleasing at the moment. I have no experiences with Android. I've had this iPhone 4S for awhile now that I've dropped one too many times admittingly. I'm willing to make the jump. The only thing I worry about is the couple of albums I have through iTunes, but then again I just use Spotify for everything music.

A Target employee told me February is the best time to buy phones as most stores are trying to rid of most of their inventories around that time and they will put up great deals. I'm pretty much hanging on for another month before upgrading.

I know you said you've narrowed it down, OP, but I would recommend checking out the Nexus 6. Stock Lollipop is an extremely slick OS, and if you're already used to Android and like it, you'll probably be very impressed by it.

To be honest I wouldn't get an iPhone 6 right now.

Wait for the 6S for the inevitable 2 GB RAM.

I'm currently using a 5S and just bought a Moto G to give android a try. Too early to make any final decisions but I have a feeling I'll stick with iOS and get the 6S later in the year.

1GB is a killer though. iOS is amazing at using a small amount of RAM but it doesn't cut it any more.

The Note 4 I've only used in stores but it's too big for me, I don't care for the s-pen, I don't see a point in splitscreening a phone and I hate Touch Wiz.

Split screen is pretty useful if I'm chatting to someone and browsing at the same time, so I don't have to keep switching windows when they reply. In regards to that, switching between apps takes ages on the Note 4, don't know if that'll be fixed for 5.0

What makes you say that?

That would be like someone buying an iPhone 5C and saying iOS sucks because Nexus 6 is better.

According to this analysis, app switching has considerably improved.

This is because the iPhone 6 series is so RAM-starved. I am literally baffled that their flagship phones only have 1 gig of ram. There's no amount of Apple "secret sauce"/"efficiency" to get around that. My next phone will have 3 gigs of ram, minimum.

A Target employee told me February is the best time to buy phones as most stores are trying to rid of most of their inventories around that time and they will put up great deals. I'm pretty much hanging on for another month before upgrading.

Well, new phones will be coming in March... so that makes sense if you're interested in getting last year's model for cheap.

I agree, I think Apple should have gone with 2gb of ram with the iPhone 6/6 Plus. You can already see the massive advantage that 2gb did with the iPad Air 2 (far more tabs in the web browser and many apps staying in memory and not reloading). After using my OPO for a while with 3gb of ram, I'm really loving how good this phone is at multitasking. I can have so many tabs and apps open with zero reloading. It's pretty sweet.

I love my iPhone 6+ but multitasking is pretty bad stuff reloads all the time so if you multitask go for the Note (I assume it has more RAM right?)

Just ordered the Note 4 from amazon. If I go to my local att store it costs me around $58 on the NEXT plan and amazon was less than $30 for next day shipping. If anyone is going the note route I would check them out also.

I had to do the next plan before people tell me what a shitshow it is. I worked for att for 3 years and fully understand the plan but it was the best option for us due to the current plan we have right now.
