Help me decide: Note 4 or iPhone 6 Plus

If you want something more modern, fluid, and intuitive than iOS or Samsungified TouchWiz "Android", get a Lollipop phone.
You won't regret it one bit.

e.g.

Nexus 6

Get the iPhone and you will be happy even two years from now.

If you go for the Samsung, you will be kicking yourself in 10 months since they will release a new version and stop supporting yours because fuck you. That's Android and that's Samsung.

This is a weird post. Iphones, like Notes are updated yearly. Both get upgrades for at least a few years (Note 2 is on Kit Kat now and is rumored to get Lolipop).

You commended the post that talked about not ruining the discussion with phone warz nonsense, which was ironic as your post seemed to be one of the culprits that led to the need for that post in the first place.

OP, either way you'll be happy. My wife's iPhone 6 (not plus) is very nice. The Notes are very nice. You're choosing between two of the best big phones out there.

The replaceable battery alone would be enough to push me to the Note 4. It's so liberating to just pop a spare battery in when I'm using my Note 2 heavily while traveling and my battery runs low.

OP, since you're getting the Note 4, if you're interested in wireless charging, Samsung just announced a wireless charging phone back that's compatible with the Qi pad charger.

Get the iPhone and you will be unhappy even two years days from now due to outdated internals compared to any Samsung phone, or Android phone for that matter, along with many little differences, such as no way to download files outside of images without 3rd party apps etc..

If you go for the Samsung, you will be kicking yourself hugging yourself in 10 months always since they will release a new version and stop continue supporting yours because fuck youthank you. That's Android and that's Samsung.

Really tho, not gonna go all phone warz, but Apple does the same thing with yearly upgrades. It's because of the speed of technology. If they didn't do upgrades like they do now, they would still be on the first iPhone. The idea of not releasing new models makes no sense from a business standpoint. Which is the entire point of the whole thing. But please don't call Android the same thing as Samsung. Android is not related to Samsung. Samsung phones aren't real Android, Nexus and Moto are the real deal. If you hate the idea of yearly upgrades, tell me this. Are you still on the first iPhone? Would you be if you bought it at launch? Didn't think so.

Samsung and "pure" Android are 95% the same for most people. It's not like a few Touchwiz features are going to totally change the experience when the apps are the same and the interface is mostly the same.

I typically put Nova Launcher on all my Android devices, and the non Samsung ones feel basically just like the Samsung ones with just minor differences. The idea that they're night and day different seems wildly overstated to me. While I don't love Touchwiz (I don't particularly use the features, but I don't think it's terrible either) I often choose Samsung as they seem to be one of the few makers that usually has SD cards and removable batteries, both of which are very important to me and a real selling point.

For my wife's Iphone 6, for example, I paid an extra $100 to go from 16GB to 64. For my Samsung phones I paid ~35 (now it would be less) to go from 16GB to 80. Some argue that the space is not comparable as SD cards can only do some things in Android, but for my usage it's perfect as all media goes on the SD cards and all apps go in internal memory.

Is there a good site to compare Touchwiz vs other launchers and setup a new android or Note 4 specifically? I know about turning off the animation stuff and dev options but I mean as a whole. Watched 3 youtube videos today that show off all kinds of tricks but nothing as far as a guide to getting rid of the att apps, setting up the phone, what to enable and disable to have a good experience right out of the gate.

You already enjoy Android so go for the Note 4. You might not enjoy the restrictive environment that Apple created. So go for the Note 4
(or *cough* Nexus 6 *cough*)
.

I appreciate all of the help guys - think I'm going with the Note 4. Going to sleep over it before making a final decision. The reason I am tempted by Apple so much is because it will be something completely new and fresh for me.

Try something new. Don't be so pragmatic.

I myself might never go Apple because I just don't like inferior hardware and a massively marketed company. (looking at you as well, Beats)

I respect Google more as a company and therefore I've stuck with Android. I would probably recommend the Nexus 6 if you want a large phone, or even a Nexus 5 if you don't want that.

No reason to go apple if you aren't knee deep in the Eco system. Personally I feel like the notes are the superior standalone phones. But the iPhone's win if you go all in on Apple products with ipads, macs and use iTunes as that connected experience is awesome. Or have lots of friends with iPhones

Ecosystem lock in is overrated. How much of that stuff you bought do you use regularly and will buy again because of that?

God I hate Samsung touchwiz on my S5 so much. Go apple unless you plan on rooting and going through all of that hassle

I would wait for the iPhone 7 with 4 GB of RAM instead. ;)
Lol

Let's be real. Apple will get to 4GB in about 6 years. One step at a time.

Waiting is usually pointless when it comes to tech but this is one instance I would wait. 1 to 2 GB will be big.

Lol just lol if they stay with 1GB though. Will make my decision a lot easier.

You're acting like the only Apple pro is the ecosystem. Which isn't true at all.

People keep going on about how the simplicity is for old people etc but simplicity is usually all people need. That's one of the biggest selling points of iPhones. It works without any nonsense.

Thats what I was thinking when I switched from android to ios. After the novelty of the newness wears off, you will find that ios is very limiting compared to android.

Thats exactly what happened in my case. Originally went back to iPhone because frankly, I thought I could get used to not having certain features. Or at least I thought it would be easier since they've introduced extensions and third party keyboards. And I'm a graphic designer so I've no problem using Apple hardware (using iMacs both at home and work). I do enjoy its simplicity, and at the same time, being able to do so much more with my phone.

Nexus 6

Kinda getting tired of seeing you recommending Nex 6 to everyone -_-

Have you even used the recent TouchWiz? My Nexus 5 running 5.0.2 is barley as fast, if not slower than TouchWiz on my Note 4, and Nexus 6 has worse performance than the 5 thanks to its encryption. This rings true for most Note 4 owners switching from stock Android, so yeah. Then if you include the much superior battery, camera and screen on the Note 4 compared to Nexus 6, uh, yeah...

Say what you will about TouchWiz, but I had far less issues with my Galaxy S3 than my Nexus 4. The Nexus 4 was incredibly unstable, even though the UI was slightly snappier than the S3's.

Man if I could get rid of 90% of Touchwoz, but keep the S Pen and Gear VR shit, I'd get a note 4. As it is though, I absolutely hate the way Samsung phones look and feel. Too much "nature inspired" annoying chimes and shit, and it just looks ugly.

I remember seeing the wather droplet "bloop" every time you unlocked a S3. So gross.

Samsung sucks at design, both hardware and software.

If you want a big android phone get a nexus 6 if you can find one. Big, fast, and a pretty decent camera. You'll get updates straight from google in a somewhat timely manner, and the build quality on my N6 is awesome. iOS is also a vaild option, I had a lot of iphones up until the 5S, I just couldn't stand those tiny screens anymore. Apple updates all of the products for all of their users at the same time, its the one thing I miss most as google like to play games with who they choose for updates. iOS also has better versions of some apps and games usually come out first there. Stay away from Samsung, touchwiz is trash.

Yeah. Please don't listen to this guy, he couldn't be more wrong. I always owned Android and had really old phones that were still getting consistent updates, only owned the ipods from apple, so I can't really say anything about the new iphone, but I'm insanely happy with my note 3 and don't see myself upgrading anytime soon.

You ain't the only one.

As long as people like you keep on spreading false information about the Nexus 6, I'll keep on recommending the Nexus 6. It's that simple.

Hey OP, get the Nexus 6.

How is this shit even an argument? No one is posting any links or videos to prove one way or the other.

6 plus is a nice piece of hardware.

Thanks for calling it "hardware" and not "kit". People who call stuff "kit" make me wanna commit seppuku.

Google Nexus 6 "Real Review": http://youtu.be/J3Ly0p1-I6w

This is my guy when it comes to phones. You could dismiss him, but I've found him
spot on.

Nexus 6 is a good phone with three flaws imo that are deal breakers for me.

Poor battery life, despite a similar spec battery to note 4/iphone 6

No true multitasking or multi-window functionality. This might not matter to some, but I love being able to watch YouTube or Netflix while checking email or browsing

Display quality is not as good as the iPhone 6, and not even in the ballpark of the note 4

Also price, being only slightly cheaper than imo, better devices. At 450 or 500 I think it would be a better value.

Also the op is pretty specific about what he's looking at, iPhone 6 and note 4. :/

It's not even an argument. It's essentially the same as people stating "iPhone 6+ has a mediocre screen".
It's just like, "What? No. Yeah it's not AS good as phone X, but it's still better than every other phone and nowhere near mediocre".

You'd think the Nexus 6 was the second coming of Jesus :lol

This is my case:

Those aren't the same arguments at all. His entire post is filled with comparisons rather than simple "Nexus 6 has mediocre x", which is the whole point if you want to inform someone why they may prefer a Note 4. Who cares if it's still considered a top of the line phone in those areas, if someone wants the very best of x feature then it should be mentioned. So where exactly is he spreading false information?
