Help me GAF!

Alright, I am getting paid tomorrow and after paying the various people that I owe money to I am going to have enough money to buy one game. I am trying, desperately trying to choose between Jade Empire and SMT: Digital Devil Saga and I just can't do it. I read both threads about the games and I still can't choose, so I am putting it up to you, because most likely, you know a ton more about these games than I do.

Some info that may be helpful:

1. I haven't played a traditional RPG since, let's say FFX, which I played maybe two years ago(traditional meaning turn based, I guess, because I just remembered that I have Tales of Symphonia, but I haven't played that in a long while either). I would very much like to play another traditional RPG, but I haven't been paying much attention to any in the past few years(SRPG's have been what I have been focusing on in the last year or two).

2. I didn't play the first(?) SMT game that came out over here, would it be wise of me to buy that instead, before I buy Digital Devil Saga?

3. I really enjoyed KoTOR and I got used to the combat after a while, but I never really loved the combat.

4. I want a good story and, since I want this game to last me until May or so(when the new GBA Fire Emblem is released), it has to be pretty long.

5. I am not a casual gamer(even though I don't buy many games anymore), so I would like a challenge.

6. I enjoy Japanese style RPG's more than I like American style RPG's, but I also enjoy BioWare games a lot.

Also, feel free to mention any RPG that has been released in the past year or so, because I most likely do not own it(being unemployed until last December means I have a lot of catching up to do). The only RPG games(using that term broadly) that I have purchased in the last year include, Dai Senraiyaku VII(?), Tales Of Symphnia, and Disgaea. As I said, I love SRPG's and I will probably pick up FFT too, if I have the cash, so don't include SRPG's in your lists, my hands will be full with FFT, AW2, and Fire Emblem.

Thanks very much in advance, your help will be and is very much appreciated!

I think Jade Empire might be something special. It's the first completely original game/universe Bioware has ever made and I don't even know much about the game. The art is a bit bleh but I'm ready to trust Bioware on this one solely on the gameplay. I couldn't stand KOTOR but this looks different.

SMT: DDS just rings "jap RPG #2-132132" to me.

Jade Empire without question. Great story (at least so far IMO), fun and accessible combat, great music, killer graphics, other Bioware goodness. Pick it up!

Tell me some more about Shadow Hearts, I remember hearing that it is set during WWII, a period in time that interests me very much. It's been out for a while, so I could probably find it for 20-30$ now, right?

I'd go for Shadow Hearts:Covenant... though it actually takes place during WWI and before the Bolshevek Revolution, not WWII.

Haven't played DDS... Nocturne was pretty cool but I stopped playing... will eventually go back.
