goddamit, Griese!
For this project you are being asked to set a song to pictures. The form of your finished product is left up to you. A couple of possibilities include recreating a song in pictures of your own composition, finding pictures that you feel capture "feelings" of the song, doing an MTV-type presentation, or any "creative" way you wish to present your song.

A minimum of 12 pictures must accompany your lyrics.
The lyrics must be suitable for reading in a classroom setting.
Pictures must be suitable for viewing in a classroom setting.
Each page must contain one line of lyrics. (can also be a few lines of a verse. just not like half the song)

You may choose your song from any source, era, or genre.
Be sure to accuratley transcribe all lyrics.

The example the teacher gave was Lennon's Imagine. Short, simple song with lyrics that are easy to put into pictures.

So, any ideas? My best ideas so far were Wish You Were Here or something by Simon and Garfunkel. But it can be anything.

Suggestions, please?

If you're specifically looking for a Simon and Garfunkel song, you might have fun with something a little more obscure, like "At The Zoo" or "The Only Living Boy In New York." From the "classics," "Scarborough Fair/Canticle" and "America" would be great.

Some other choices, perhaps a LITTLE on the artsy side, with lyric excerpts:

Radiohead, "No Surprises" (totally morbid and subversive)
A heart that's full up like a landfill
A job that slowly kills you
Bruises that won't heal
Wilco, "I Am Trying To Break Your Heart" (a little long, but some wonderful lyrics)
I am an American aquarium drinker
I assassin down the avenue
I'm hiding out in the big city blinking
What was I thinking when I let go of you?
The Flaming Lips, "What Is The Light?"
Looking into space, it surrounds you
Love is the place that youre drawn to
Looking into space, it surrounds you
Love is the face that youre drawn to
Ryan Adams, "When The Stars Go Blue"
Dancin’ where the stars go blue
Dancin’ where the evening fell
Dancin’ in your wooden shoes
In a wedding gown
Neil Young, "Pocahontas"
They massacred the buffalo
Kitty corner from the bank
The taxis run across my feet
And my eyes have turned to blanks
In my little box
at the top of the stairs
With my Indian rug
and a pipe to share.
Blur, "Coffee & TV"
Do you feel like a chain store?
Practically floored
One of many zeros
Kicked around bored
Your ears are full but your empty
Holding out your heart
To people who never really
Care how you are
Ben Folds Five, "Smoke"
Leaf by Leaf page by page
Throw this book away
All the sadness all the rage
Throw this book away
Rip out the binding, tear the glue
All of the grief we never ever knew
We had it all along
Now it's smoke
Beck, "Lord Only Knows" (although almost ANYTHING by Beck has surreal and visual lyrics)
You only got one finger left
And it's pointing at the door
And you're taking for granted
What the Lord's made on the floor
So I'm picking up the pieces
And I'm putting them up for sale
Throw your meal ticket out the window
Put your skeletons in jail
Randy Newman, "Political Science" (hey, lots of pictures of national landmarks and explosions -- you could go Photoshop-crazy with this one!)
No one likes us
I don't know why.
We may not be perfect
But heaven knows we try.
But all around even our old friends put us down.
Let's drop the big one and see what happens.

We give them money
But are they grateful?
No they're spiteful
And they're hateful.
They don't respect us so let's surprise them;
We'll drop the big one and pulverize them.

Now Asia's crowded
And Europe's too old.
Africa's far too hot,
And Canada's too cold.
And South America stole our name.
Let's drop the big one; there'll be no one left to blame us.

We'll save Australia;
Don't wanna hurt no kangaroo.
We'll build an all-American amusement park there;
They've got surfing, too.

Well, boom goes London,
And boom Paris.
More room for you
And more room for me.
And every city the whole world round
Will just be another American town.
Oh, how peaceful it'll be;
We'll set everybody free;
You'll have Japanese kimonos, baby,
There'll be Italian shoes for me.
They all hate us anyhow,
So let's drop the big one now.
Let's drop the big one now.
(That song HAD to be quoted in full...it rocks too much.)

Matlock

Banned
Queen. Bohemian Rhapsody.

Is this the real life?
Is this just fantasy?
Caught in a landslide,
No escape from reality
Open your eyes, Look up to the skies and see,
I'm just a poor boy, I need no sympathy,
Because I'm easy come, easy go, Little high, little low,
Any way the wind blows doesn't really matter to me, to me

Mama, just killed a man,
Put a gun against his head, pulled my trigger, now he's dead
Mama, life had just begun,
But now I've gone and thrown it all away
Mama, ooh, Didn't mean to make you cry,
If I'm not back again this time tomorrow,
Carry on, carry on as if nothing really matters

Too late, my time has come,
Sends shivers down my spine, body's aching all the time
Goodbye, ev'rybody, I've got to go,
Gotta leave you all behind and face the truth
Mama, ooh, I don't want to die,
I sometimes wish I'd never been born at all

I see a little silhouetto of a man,
Scaramouche, Scaramouche, will you do the Fandango
Thunderbolt and lightning, very, very fright'ning me
(Galileo) Galileo (Galileo) Galileo, Galileo figaro
Magnifico I'm just a poor boy and nobody loves me
He's just a poor boy from a poor family,
Spare him his life from this monstrosity
Easy come, easy go, will you let me go
Bismillah! No, we will not let you go
(Let him go!) Bismillah! We will not let you go
(Let him go!) Bismillah! We will not let you go
(Let me go) Will not let you go
(Let me go) Will not let you go (Let me go) Ah
No, no, no, no, no, no, no
(Oh mama mia, mama mia) Mama mia, let me go
Beelzebub has a devil put aside for me, for me, for me

So you think you can stone me and spit in my eye
So you think you can love me and leave me to die
Oh, baby, can't do this to me, baby,
Just gotta get out, just gotta get right outta here

Nothing really matters, Anyone can see,
Nothing really matters,
Nothing really matters to me
Any way the wind blows

Air - Playground Love

That's the first song that came to mind.

Edit: Nevermind. I didn't read that it had to go along with the lyrics. Still a good song, though.

woah, thanks for all the suggestions. I've been downloading these songs as they've been recommended....

and before i downloaded them, i googled the lyrics first. but thanks for posting them anyway jinx, much appreciated.

there's a ton of good ideas in here already...The Ballad of John and Yoko, Under The Bridge, No Surprises, What Is The Light, Lord Only Knows, and People are Strange could all potentially work.

I thought of We Didn't Start the Fire too, but it was also mentioned by the prof. That, Imagine, and a song by Fogerty. Thanks for the reply though.

Damn, this is gonna be a tough choice. Thank you GA, as always =)

oh, and I'd never heard At The Zoo. Awesome song.
