Henry Cavill is the new Superman

The more important aspect of having a do-over film here is not a new actor; it is the death of "Lex Luthor, real estate-focused con artist with bumbling henchmen."

Don't get me wrong, Spacey breathed some malice and menace into the notion but speaking of adaptations and faithfulness, that version of the character is unique to the films, and IMO, it is one of the more ruinous elements.

But seriously this movie was so boring.

The movie was hardly a 'superhero' movie, but it was not boring at all. I was glued to the screen through all of it. It was a very well made movie as well.

So cheesy. I can hardly watch these now as they are so dated. Hell he teleports and throws a s-shield at the baddies.

That was taken out in the superior Donner version.

The xylophones in the background only remind me how dated that music is, Elfman's score doesn't fit with Nolan's Batman at all.

Thematically fitting or not, it is in every way superior to the original. Watching the original now, the music makes the scene appear like it has no pacing at all. Am I supposed to on the edge of my seat here?

This movie probably will blow Superman Returns out of the water. Maybe it will be a bona fide blockbuster. But no matter what they do, they're not going to top this:

I don't know, it was kinda slow to me. The later trailers are where the awesome is.

But it's interesting on how various deleted scenes are on the teaser, like the scene where Superman is out in space on the remains of Krypton (the scene with the headlights on the canyon), and when Clark found the spaceship when he was young (young Clark in front of the spaceship).

Truly one of the greatest teasers ever I still get goosebumps.

Hate all you want on Superman Returns but there were 3 things that the movie absolutely did perfectly:

1. Brandon Routh was a excellent Superman.
2. They captured perfectly what it would really be like to have a real superhero in a city. There is this beautiful shot of people just walking around metropolis and then looking up and noticing Superman slowly circling through the city. Its such a slow elegant shot.
3. The scene where the city thinks Superman is dead and not even his mom Martha Kent can be there for her son and you see the anguish on her face. I thought it brought a great depth to the movie.

I thought Singer said we were getting those scenes in a extended edition but that never happened.

Agreed 100%. Returns would've been much better off if Singer hadn't decided to reuse that version of the character. I can't wait to see where Snyder takes the franchise; it's really got nowhere to go but up, IMO.

I threw in Superman Returns for fun tonight just to glimpse an action scene or two (always loved the airplane rescue at the start) and just to ogle Brandon Routh a little. Before I could reach for the remote to skim the film for the scenes I had in mind, it started autoplaying (this was the early era of blurays I guess where a menu wasn't standard, wtf), and ....

...man, I have not been able to stop watching. What the fuck. I've let four years of negative opinions from everyone else cloud my memories of this film and how much I loved it then, and love it again now. Jesus, the cinematography is so wonderful. There are so many beautiful shots. Routh is a great Kent/Superman. Kate Bosworth falls a little flat, and I honestly don't care about the interpretation of Luthor's character one way or another (he's honestly so small a part of this whole film's main theme and point). The overall tone and look of the film are both so powerful. It's just so beautiful. Why does the whole world hate this film so much? lol

I've been enthralled for two hours, the film's in its final few moments. Love it.

The main reasons I've seen for the hate are: it basically rehashes the plot of Superman 1, Luthor, criminal mastermind, still surrounds himself with bumbling henchmen, Superman never really fights anybody, the action scenes revolve around Superman lifting things, Lois was cast really young, and Superman has a kid.

I understand the reasons, but I love it and for the same reasons as you. In my opinion it's one of the most beautifully shot superhero films.

I don't think you'll find many people who disagree that it looked very pretty, but it's ugly on the inside.

My expert retelling of Superman Returns: Superman goes back to Krypton, finds Jor-El, throws him into the sun and gets back into his ship.... but, tiny microbes come back on the shuttle. Back on earth the entire film plays out the same except when Luther creates the island it also creates these mega monsters made out of Kryptonite. Cue loads of punching and shit. End result: Improvement.

Olivia Wilde has tested for Lois Lane

NOW I got word from a close reliable source WHO I CAN NOT MENTION, SO STOP WITH THE "WHO IS YOUR SOURCE" as if I am actually going to tell you and have that person get fired or in trouble.

What I was told today was that Olivia Wilde (TRON: Legacy, Cowboys & Aliens) has tested for Lois Lane in "Superman." The source knows this because they've been hired to work on "KIN" and the dates may be pushed back to accommodate the "Superman" schedule should she get the gig. They also mentioned to me that the Rachel McAdams story is true.

I contacted Warner Bros. Pictures and asked if it was true and they responded with "NO COMMENT AT THIS TIME."

I don't like any of those casting choices. Gimme an Anne Hathaway, Sarah Shahi, Michelle Monaghan, Jessica Pare or Bridget Regan.

If I were him, I'd give Sarah Wayne Callies a shot at the role. She look very Lois Lane.

Still, Margot Kidder will always be Lois Lane to me. :)

With Henry Cavill set as the Man of Steel, Warner Bros. now moves on to its female lead, and a short list of contenders is coming together.

Alice Eve, Diane Kruger and Rosamund Pike have emerged as the three thesps being considered for the character, whose identity hasn't been disclosed -- but it's not Lois Lane.

Early reports had names such as Rachel McAdams and Kristen Stewart as female leads, but sources tell Variety that the studio doesn't want a name that could overshadow its leading man.

I hope they actually have a decent villain in this one. I'm tired of a villain who actually doesn't have any super powers or the strength to stand up to Superman besides with Cryptonite or brains. Also I hated the fact that Superman, the man of un-tarnished moral standing went and got Louis knocked up and then left...

WTF...

Who the hell is Louis?

Out of the three mentioned for the female lead... I guess Kruger. I'm not really into any of them though. I definitely don't want it to be Eve.
