I feel like it was probably a bit of both. There's been plenty of evidence in this thread and on reddit that most folks waited for sales to buy. They also probably want to push the boxes because they are the new hotness and their main source of income moving forward.
Open the normal chests first. Then if you don't have a big gold stockpile open the veteran chests so you can reroll those for sure.

Buy your mega bundle first, Then open common, rare, epic, and vet boxes in that order IMO.

3 my 4 vet boxes were dupes. Didn't bother rerolling because I wanted to use the gold on heroes and my other boxes dropped plenty of legends. Still, what is the point of a guaranteed leg if it doesn't also guarantee new? Long time vets are the most likely to get dupes because they've been buying shit for so long.
Personally that's why I was glad for the dupes. The shards are more valuable to me long term because I can get new skins with them or hoard them for when we get event chests.

Thanks people! I got 80k gold so I'll probably do the Common -> Epic -> Veteran order, but also making sure I have enough gold to re-roll the Veteran chests at least twice.
Currently reading through the guide as well, good stuff.

I kinda lurk in here from time to time but, I been playing since beta off and on and I don't think I actually like Hanamura as a map the more I play on it.

Good luck on rolls. I hoarded about 42k gold before the patch for rerolls but I only ended up using about 34k. Though I only got 3/31/5 on boxes my account level wasn't crazy like some folks. Between the free bundle, free gems, and some WoW gold (blizzard wallet balance yay!) I managed to finish my hero collection.
All in all 2.0 has been pretty great and they don't seem at least at first glance to be as stingy with boxes as they are in Overwatch.
How often will they change these "Featured" skins that can be bought with gems? Cause if it's weekly that is some Grade A shit. 6 skins per week, of a total of about 300-500 skins, gonna take maybe 2 years to sift through them. There are some Legendary skins that are now completely out of my reach because I didn't buy them before the 2.0 change and I will feel I will never be able to get 1600 Shards by playing for free. Heroes of the Storm is fun but its not gonna entertain me for 3 years.

I'll give 2.0 this, I do like the now infinite increases to heroes rather than having them cap out at 20. I don't feel like I'm wasting some opportunity to earn currency or rewards by playing a hero I like versus leveling up a hero I don't.
I haven't played Hanamura enough, i.e. been in a decent match-up or have been on the receiving end of a stomping, but as far as 2 lane maps go, I like it. And I really don't like most of the 2 lane maps in the game except Battlefield of Eternity. So far I like the objectives because they drive you to places beyond just the two lanes. Dunno what to think of the merc camps or the items/buffs they provide yet. Kinda useless?

Got to play Hanamura once. This map seems pretty fun. I like all the usable stuff that drops. Got to scope out some dudes with the dragon and dropped a turret on our payload that helped slightly in a fight.
The boss is really strange and I can't figure out the logic behind eating targets because we only saw it twice.
Does it eat healers? I was playing Uther and just got eaten like 3 times in one engagement but then the enemy team invaded being fronted by a Leoric. He creepy handed our Raynor and instantly got ate and that won us the boss.

Starting to love Tracer. It's not quite the same as playing OW but you can still bully certain characters by staying just out of range and dodging their skill shots, you kinda get the same style. Of course I am bad at movement, dodging, shooting, moving the camera, right clicking, understanding when skill shots are coming, etc., so not quite there yet for me lol

In my experience it just eats whoever it's aggroing
just had a nice comeback where at one point we were down 19 v 5 kills, but we got our act together. Its these moments when you remember how good the game can be.

I also just had a great comeback. On the curse map like 3 of my teammates didn't even try for a tribute until the fourth one popped up. After that we managed to get a curse go off and they were at 2/3 to get their second and probably win the game. Then I managed to clutch as tracer being the last hero standing at the end of a team fight to prevent them from getting their last tribute, after that we finished our tribute and won just from minion's damaging the core.
I'm actually on a 3 win streak, the opposite of day 1 losing streak feelsgoodman.

BTW just curious. It occured to me that certain maps aren't in rotation? Like that pirate map and the spider map. What happened there?

Man, I now own so many new heroes and have so many skins and mounts. Spent quite a few hours today just exploring it all, lol. I have like 1100 gems, 100,300 gold, and 810 shards. One side of me wants to save it all, and another side of me wants to go on a spending spree!
Played Probius up to level 5, I really like the little guy. Very interesting specialist, might be one of my favorite specialists honestly. Second to Hammer of course.

That's the thing. It feels like doing stuff like a normal map (camps mainly) seems kinda pointless since you gotta worry about the payloads so much. I like the design of the map but, I don't know about the actual objective.

I think Ive lost every game with Auriel... is she just not a QM hero or am I just unlucky with my teams on her? :/
Shes pretty much reserved for comps with guldan, lunara, or valla, tho she does have synergy w/ some other heroes too. Basically good and consistent aoe

If you get a guldan, li-ming, valla, or any other consistent source of hope, the two of you can pretty much carry the game. So sure, she can work in QM if the RNG favors you.

Can't wait to jump back into this later tonight. Haven't played in a month or so, but I shouldn't be too bad.
If you've never played a moba, I'd start with some pretty basic heroes, I think everyone gets Jimmy? and that one has Lili, ETC, Morales, they're all pretty simple to start out wtih. Kerrigan is probably the simplest assassin in that bundle, but like I said I THINK everyone has Raynor and hes' definitely simpler. Otherwise, if you're not super new to MOBAs you'd probably be fine with anything except lost vikings, which is insane that they're in that bundle to me. EDIT: Oh, Abathur is there too. He's also not particularly newbie friendly. Lost Vikings is literally 3 units that you control independently of each other for movement, and Abathur is someone that doesn't go into battle directly but you put a symbiote hat on someone else and have total map control that you can exert. Otherwise, whoever looks cool is certainly going to be learnable within a few games.

The fact that they double colors is what makes the whole thing so fucking hard to discern. Just show us the full level on the screen, or use different colors for each 100. As we can see from TheYanger's screenshot, the colors continue to roll over again post 1000.

You can only unlock seasonal skins when it's the appropriate seasonal holiday. So LNY skins will only unlock on LNY, Hollow's End, etc.
edit: You were wanting the skull abathur skin? Yea so you'll have to wait until Hollow's End.
