I'm finding zarya difficult to win games as, but now that I got the hang of tracer I am on a 4 win streak with her.
Is zarya not good or should I ditch trying to use a grenade build?

Zarya got nerfed to her original shield degen, so she's going to have far less of the brute force damage she did previously.
I read that there was some sort of unmentioned change that affected her gain rate too, but it's pretty much you have less energy sustain so you have to be close to the fight once you throw a shield out. If you're a newer player id say that both before the recent patch (when she was op) and after shes a hard character to play plus there are more fun heroes to play. If you stick with her tho grenade build is fine

I go parry at 1,4,7, taunt, whatever is best against your enemy team at 13, iron forge banner, taunt upgrade or the +healing banner at 20

from the home screen where the allchat is you can right click your favorite smileys to add to favorites and then they show up for use in game chat.
In the lobby chat, click the smiley face next to the chat bar and right click whatever emote you want to add and add it to favorites. Then you can use the smiley in game to add them to your message.
Taunt is his best ult, especially when you don't have a tank on your team. Only take Colossus Smash when you see that your team really lacks damage and already has a tanky warrior.
For the other talents it's just as Scoobs said. Even with the recent buff to the cooldown reduction on his charge the parry talents are usually just better. Not only can you mitigate a lot of burst damage but doing so will reduce your parry cooldown and reset your heroic strike which means you deal more damage. With taunt you can even force an opponent to attack you while you are protected so that synergy works really well. You can stay in fights longer and I usually finish the game with the second highest or even highest damage on my team.
The armor banner at 16 is generally the better choice and at 20 it depends on whether your team has a healer or not. Sometimes, even with a healer, I still go Vigilance for the taunt cooldown reduction just because it's fun.
Loot boxes were fucking brilliant to make you want to play past lvl 5 for the 500g.
Now theres always a reason to play any hero, and hell even if you lose a match maybe you got enough xp for a lvl / loot box anyway so that makes it less of a waste of time.

alright. Iron forge seems to be working with me. I haven't felt much difference between those at 20 yet because my matches are ending before I have a chance to upgrade

I had nine matches in a row in Cursed Hollow yesterday before I got anything else (...which was four matches in ToD). It was absolutely awful. I got some Infernal Shrines and Hanamura later, but geez.
Every new player plays Cursed Hollow for I believe 10 games before they are allowed onto new maps. It's considered the most "basic" HOTS map.
I'm not a new player, though :< Not the highest, but I've been playing on and off since Alpha. Still, that makes more sense if it lumped me in with that.
It's almost as if the Heroes art team is ridiculously talented or something!
youre getting your friend a lot of boxes at least so he can get more heroes and whatnot

So played a few more games today, went with Nazeebo since I had a daily quest. Enjoyed him more than I expected. I think the combo of daily quests and loot chests makes winning/losing irrelevant, since you're always earning either gold or loot. In Overwatch the Arcade only gives you loot boxes if you win, which makes winning/losing matter more. I think I prefer the HotS system, since you can have fun and not worry about how your team is performing.

Ya I much prefer the quest system in HOTS. Sometimes you will get the "Win 3 games" quest though, but that is the only one that requires you to win games, so you can just focus on getting better yourself and having fun.

The flex bundle has a mix of all types of heroes (tank/support/assassin/specialist). Probably that one, but if you just like killing fools you can't go wrong with the assassin pack.
Thanks, been reading up about the different heroes on various sites (always hard jumping right into the deep end with mobas).

You'll only get that for about 5-8 games, depending on if you win or not. If you just stomp through around ~6 or so it'll put you and your buddy straight back into diamond games. That's what I was referring too when I suggested it - if he doesn't adjust it can be really bad for him, and/or you guys lose back down because it is harder for him and work your way up.

So i've been out of the game for the last two months or three. Where is Sonya standing in the current meta ? And is Cassia really good against AA heroes ? Genj is great great fun.

Sonya is amazing, they heavily buffed her whirlwind ability and she's an insane bruiser pick. Cassia is OK, not a top pick but solid against AA heroes for sure.
