Wow, new iTunes out with Podcasting, awesome. What does this add, like a menu on the left hand column ? 21 MEGS

Guh, already busted our data cap for this month. Oh well. Download.

Hmm, gonna need some sort of update for my iPod apparently. Click... Click... ...wtf

48 GOD DAMN MEGA BYTES?!?!

Jesus CHRIST, what does this DO to my iPod ?!? Are there free nudie pics ? A sample PORNO ?? Add a freakin submenu for 48 frikken megabytes ?!?

Absolutley absurd. Apple is like this with all there software too, little security fix for Keynote & Pages ?? 30megs each. Can't they figure out what the rest of the world has been doing for years ? Patching bytes in a file that need patching, rather than download EVERYTHING again ??

Fuck you apple. (clicks download anyway)

10.4.2 is ALREADY out?

Not officially, no. But it is being knocked around on ADC (Apple Developer Connection) and it weighs in, if my memory serves me right, at over 50MB. That said, it fixes even more bugs than 10.4.1 did.

For the record, iTunes 10.4.9 does a bit more than add podcasting, as it also adds hooks for the iTunes compatible phone and supports videocasting. But again, I'm not defending Apple's practices here, just noting:)

Lollerblades

A) Not crying

B) When every byte over your 10gig limit starts taking food out of your mouth, I get upset.

C) Apple is being lazy. They bundle all the latest updates for all of the iPod family into one file. I don't have 7 different kinds of iPod. I have one.

D) The lollerblades bit was a little funny.

10.4.2 also will include a fancy widget management tool...

Better than one every 6 years.

You have fun standing in line for OS X: Mountain Lion Hyper Fighting Edition Turbo II (The Patch That Was Not). It'll be out in three weeks.

How big was Service Pack 2, the latest patch to Office XP, the patch to DirectX 8 and the subsequent one to DirectX 9, the size of your latest device driver updates, etc? :D

All of the updates you refer to effect many different applications. iTunes is software in and of itself. I'm not saying gigantic patch sizes are anything new, but there is a difference here.

Service Pack 2 is like patching 10.3.0 thru 10.3.9 in one fell swoop.

Actually I'll just launch software update and it will get it for me. It's really not that big of a deal unless you are on a modem (or have bandwidth limits like the initial poster).

iTunes updates a lot of libraries which are used by many applications as well as being a scriptable application usable by many applications itself :p
