I'm on this site every day. I'll chip in for Gold for myself and another user gladly. Gold subs might slow the bleeding for now but I think a long-term strategy is needed and it makes me hopeful to see ideas floated like ManaByte ManaByte 's.

Who deserves a Gold gift? Who is the nicest person on this forum? (If you say Danjin I will find you).

Does anyone know much does it costs, roughly, to run the site for a full year?
I can't speak for neogaf, but one finnish message board costs 25k euros a year for hardware. However it's got its own back and frontend, and image upload like 4chan and its really popular. On ads side it only gets casino ads since it's messages are rather inspired by 4chan.

I would also like to see EviLore EviLore 's bank records and at least 5 years worth of tax returns please.

I don’t think it’s unreasonable to ask like what the money gets spent on, how low reserves are, or how much money the site normally operates on when we’re being asked for money. Sure, we don’t need to know every detail, but even a general idea would be welcome imho.

I get what your saying and understand how you would feel that way. I guess for me the issue is that there probably is an amount of money he feels he deserves to make for himself that makes running this worth it. It is also his site and his right to do that. Now has it gotten to the point that he can't take a portion for himself? I don't know that. I also feel it also really isn't my business. Releasing that information can only accomplish one of two things. We see how bad it is. Worse than we even suspect and that will only scare people. Or we find out he still makes a decent profit. (His right imo) but not enough extra to do the things he would like to do. That will only serve to anger people.

I give money to last stand media for example and they still make money from adds and Colin just bought a pool. Good for him. I pay because I enjoy the content.

I just see no benefit to him answering those questions even if I see why you may want to know.

I've never noticed the merchandise section or what gold membership is.

It could be that me like other people have the gaming section bookmarked. So we never go to the main page or look at the sidebar besides clicking other sections of the forum.

I don’t know if anyone has already given this idea but Fortnite has a “content creator” code system we can use to help people with each purchase we make in-game.

I’m sure me and other Fortniters would be more than happy to use GAFs code when we buy skins and troll dances in there.

Those are fair points

My question was more in line with: how much money do we have to raise to fund the website for a year? Then use that for a GoFundMe and give EviLore some time to maneuver, and find a new way to monetize this thing.

In lieu of that, I purchased the gold membership for the first time. Hopefully, I’ll be a member for another 15 years.

sorry if it's inappropriate but just wondering how things are going now since the appeal for help? seems a lot of people have signed up for gold and/or whitelisted the site on adblockers. the patreon is up. i'm not asking how much has been made but is it helping and what's the impact? will the site be able to keep running?

what other changes have you decided on that will help keep the site online?

out of curiousity, what part of the site is the most expensive to run? the archives of old content? traffic/bandwidth...or something else?

thanks :D

We have a good amount of new Gold signups and Patreon supporters, which definitely helps, and demonstrates that the community wants the site to keep going.

Ad revenue is slowly climbing.

We're working on getting an affiliate store live for the next site update as another way to support GAF, too.

The overall outlook is trending in a positive direction, and internally we're hopeful for the future.

Another quick idea taken from Twitch. You could add an option to gift a selectable number of gold subscriptions to random members (preferably ones logged on in the last week). Probably complicated to implement, but wouldn't hurt anything to have for anyone feeling generous.

It is wild to see how easy Twitch viewers gift subscriptions to random other viewers on some channels.

If GAF could harness even a fraction of that generosity that would be great.

I wouldn't mind having a bit more ads since it's not intrusive as of now.

Maybe have it as a setting to be opt in for users who don't have the cash to get gaf gold but still want to support the site nonetheless?
