Might be a tremendously hard to implement idea with each country different legislation and all, but wouldn't it be great to have a betting section where you can bet on vg related stuff like date of release, over-under on metacritic score, etc... A place for every console warrior, and us civilised folks, to put his money where his mouth is, and for once in a useful way since Neogaf would take like 5-10% of everything (don't ask me how i'm a librarian)

Just to resurface my own idea in a self serving way since I got two likes. I truly miss the politics side because it was the one of the only places on the internet where you could have a long form debate and not get dog piled by whichever side disagreed with you that day. Reddit and Twitter are echo chambers depending on which side or personality you follow. Here was at least egalitarian on both sides despite a few conservative and liberal jerks. That plus there’s a natural need to discuss major news as evidenced by the ongoing Ukraine War thread: it’s just limiting considering some major news events in the last 24 hours can’t even be discussed.
I’d pay to get that back.

As long as they're not enabled by default, I'm fine with that. Animations can be problematic for some people, and depending on the animation, could induce health risks.

This site was very political and banned lots of people at the slightest sign of opposition. Hard to make AD revenue when you ban everyone lol. Thanks. For some reason my username is invisible on iOS mobile. Only realized this when I went on the desktop site and my username should be to the left of the messages envelope symbol, so I went back on mobile and blindly clicked around in that general area and it directed me to my account. Weird.

I hope you enjoy NeoGAF as much as I do. Our community has made it through a lot over the years. We had a rough patch a while back, but were able to rebuild, and it’s a fun and lively place again, focusing on the games, with a common sense guiding principle.
I’ve been here for over 22 years and counting, and I’d like to continue running NeoGAF for many more years to come. But there’s an ongoing problem: the powers that be changed their algorithm some time ago and we lost upwards of 90% of our ad revenue for an identical amount of traffic. It’s always been tough to monetize forums, but right now is about as tough as it’s ever been for GAF since we have a huge post history that requires a lot of server power to keep it all integrated, as well as a lot of traffic that takes up resources every month without much coming back in.
As a result of the ad revenue issues it’s become a challenge to maintain the site, I’ve had to slow down active development and pursue other avenues professionally as well. It’s also not viable to compensate our dev team properly without revenue coming in, so I’ve paused many of our internal operations. You’ve probably noticed that the momentum we had with all the new features and improvements has slowed, and some existing features have stopped working outright. Now you know why.
This whole development purgatory is really not my preference. I’d rather focus my attention primarily on GAF and continue building it back up, keep it a great place to hang out and talk about the latest gaming and industry news, and get back to actively developing it.
It’s a predicament. Are you guys and gals open to supporting NeoGAF a bit more actively? We have a lot of users, but most people adblock and only a tiny fraction of members get Gold subs. We could put up some affiliate links that would support the site without an out of pocket cost, if they would be utilized by our members. And I’m open to discussing any other options as well.
NeoGAF has always been independent, and over the past two decades I’ve shrugged off the many attempts by publishers and big corporations to control the site via their acquisition offers and other deals. But with that stubborn neutrality and independence comes a different set of challenges, like the one we’re currently facing. To keep moving forward we’ll need to construct some additional pylons.
If you enjoy using NeoGAF, let me know of any ways you’d be down to support the site’s continued existence. I'd love to get back into full swing, revise the site design for 2022, fix our features and add new ones, and continue building. Thanks.

You might consider setting up GAF twitter and Facebook accounts if you don’t already have them. Just make them point back here. I would even suggest running some ads on social media for GAF. Set up the pattern and then advertise a bit to get some fresh blood and subs coming in.
Are you saying that Google lowered GAF’s ranking in the search results after the hoopla? Or how did the algorithm get affected? What ad service do you use? You might consider getting bigger companies, hardware or software companies, to sponsor individual months or weeks on GAF. Say, if a game is launching, they get some sort of emphasis on the site or something similar. Or, just buy ads for the month. That could be too much of a headache, but it all depends on how much revenue it would bring in.
