I'm looking for a way to use the Brush Tool as a means of highlighting the portions of the image I want to remove. When you use it, it puts a red tint over the section and then when you're finished highlighting, you can select the portions of the image you highlighted and do ..whatever.. with it. I know there's a way to do it, I even had a nice worksheet on it, but that's mysteriously vanished. I'm using Photoshop CS, if that helps.

Well, I don't know if this is what you mean... probably not...
BUT - you could create a new layer and set its opacity below 100. Then you could draw in a solid websafe colour with a brush that has no aliasing / has straight edges, which will kind of look like its highlighting stuff. Then while you're still on the new layer - you either use the magic wand to select, or use select color from the Select menu. Change back to the layer(s) you want to delete from and the selection will remain the same. Hit delete.

you are looking for quick mask. Don't think CS has it :(

Just checked(I have CS at home) - " mask channel created in Quick Mask mode in Photoshop. Photoshop Elements has no Quick Mask mode and flattens all channels in Photoshop images."

Quick mask mode (look on your toolbox, 2 icons, both circles with black and white background), shortcut key 'Q'.

Thanks for the help guys. Looks like I'll be doing this one at home, or at least, much later. If only my prof was in his office, instead of the comic book store.
