Good, my chances of buying the game have gone up. Hopefully it's decent during most non demanding sequences.
And if nothing else it should at least future proof it for Ps5pro or Ps6.

Isn't this good for those of us with 120hz displays? Are we assuming uncapped goes with VRR?

On Ps5 I think it would need to be above 48fps for VRR to kick in, but I think Xbox has a wider range

They can do the same range as Xbox with 120hz output and LFC.

This is much better than 30 fps caps. Give me all the frames possible for response time and to future proof the game for the pro. This is how we were playing Sekiro on the PS4 pro and it was so much better than vanilla PS4.

You cap fetishists disgust me.

Sekiro was better because the base version had framepacing issues, so if you were to experience judder anyway way might as well go for the higher framerate. I get those that like unlocked framerates, I really do, but I think having an option to cap it is rather simple and should be there to please everyone.

Ideally I'd hope for it to at least be something like Elden Ring.
Drops when traversing the open world but when you get to a more enclosed location like a dungeon it's closer to 60fps.

From the videos I've seen of the game I can imagine drops when fighting that big colossus or destroying parts of the environments and stuff like that. But I don't see why it wouldn't be able to run at 60fps when you are inside a dungeon fighting small enemies.

Fuck please be more clear on the options. Tell me there's a 30 cap option, please.
Thats what id rather have but from the rumours it sounds like it'll mostly hit 30 with minor dips due to enemy placements (apparently theres no random enemy attacks) from what some anonymous previewer said discord

Not buying it then I guess. I'm not playing a 25-50 fps game on my non-VRR TV. Even on a TV that does VRR it's gonna be outside the range much of the time. Yuck.

They're thinking in terms of future-proofing the game. Uncapped means the PS5 Pro or PS6 can run it at 60 or higher. Capped at 30 means there's a chance that a 60fps patch will never happen, like Bloodborne.

So just have an option for 30 fps cap or unlocked.

Maybe they're incapable of implementing a proper cap, like From. But I think other RE Engine games are properly capped on PS4 and such?

Depends on how much it fluctuates. A 40fps cap/120Hz refresh mode would be the best case scenario if the game spends a lot of time below the effective vrr range. That along with a 30fps cap mode and an uncapped mode.

A few options should be an easy thing to implement. Unless the game spends a lot of time below 40fps. In that case they should have 30fps mode and an unlocked mode.

I agree with both of your points. More options are always good.

Then again, I'm also the type to advocate for dropping the resolution to 1080p with some sort of TAA or something so that performance modes can as solid as possible, but people in general don't like that idea for their 4k TVs.

It's also not always a silver bullet. If the game is CPU limited you could drop that resolution to 480p and it still wouldn't be able to hit 60 consistently.

You're exactly right, I was using it more as an example as to where I stand on things.

To clarify further, I'm all for any techniques developers can use to help maximize performance as long as it doesn't compromise their gameplay goals.

For anyone with a VRR tv (me), this is fucking great news.
Even if it wobbles around 30, the TV not forcing frames into a set timing makes it so much smoother and responsive.

Dogshit fps if the trailer is anything to go by, 50fps to 30fps is horrible.

Doesn't DF say that the VRR on PS5 doesn't work well under 45fps or something? Is that true?

I don't see why we can't have both capped and uncapped. Capped for now, uncapped for future proofing.

I mean is it that big of a problem for developers to add?

Dragon's Dogma 1 was already smooth as butter on PC when played at high refresh rates, but good to have a confirmation for the sequel.
