High-def 99 Nights and CoD 2 trailers

some of the stuff where they are taking on multiple enemies *might* be, but I even doubt that.

*If any of that turns out to be realtime, I will hump my Xbox 360's disc drive*
 
these HD videos look amazing when viewed on a 42inch plasma. Crystal clear....cant wait til the 22nd

It's all prerendered. The game still looks awesome though. This is a from a realtime cutscene for example :

i'm not an expert on gaming.

so could u or anybody else explain what's the significance of the cutscene being real-time.
 
Wow, CoD2 really does look pretty fantastic. I don't even recall the PC demo looking that spiffy at max settings. Game looks like a total riot too.

Basically, a pre-rendered cutscene is nothing more than a movie file being streamed from the disc while a realtime cutscene is actually something being drawn by the hardware. If you go and watch any major PC tech demo, you'd see that they are basically presented as cutscenes. It's a demonstration of what the hardware can do...while a pre-rendered movie means nothing on that front.

no, i'd be jizzing myself if Mizuguchi was really involved in the development. he's far and away one of the best out there. im always excited about any games he makes. he easily ranks in my top 5 developers of all time. anything he makes, im guarenteed to buy.

i'll stick to Mizuguchi games made with Q, or a developer that i actually care about.

i have no interest in playing a Dynasty Warriors clone.

so does this mean that the 360 will be able to pull off PS2 cutscene gfx while ur actually playing the game???

if so, that's pretty impressive. i've also seen alot of people amazed at a Gears of War realtime cutscene.

the collaboration between (Mizuguchi / Q Entertainment) and Phantagram has actually been quite extensive.. i.e.: it's not like N3 is purely a Phantagram game, with Mizuguchi's name stamped on..;


We understand that Phantagram is developing Ninety-Nine Nights in collaboration with Tetsuya Mizuguchi’s Q Entertainment studio. Could you explain how the partnership works?

Sang Youn Lee: Simply put, Phantagram is responsible for the overall development, including game design, programming and graphics. Q Entertainment is in charge of concept design and producing. But it’s more than a company-to-company relationship. Within Phantagram’s studio, staff from both Phantagram and Q are working together as a team. For example, I am the Director, Mr. Mizuguchi is the Producer, and the design team includes staff from Phantagram, Q, and even Microsoft.

The thing is, since the hardware doesn't have to calculate the animation, AI and camera in real-time, you can do better graphics in cut-scenes than in the real game....

That said, it is much more representative of in game graphics than CGI, which is nothing more than offline-rendered computer graphics that is being played of the DVD drive of the console......in 99.9% of all cases, in-game graphics never look like GCI....

Fortunately, with the advent of next-gen machines like the Xbox 360 and the PLAYSTATION 3, we are getting a lot closer to real-time graphics that look like crude or even decent CGI....kinda...

Getting back to the real-time cutscenes, they *can* look better than the actual in-game graphics, but it is not a night and day diffrence in my eyes....IMO, even the best real-time cutscenes can give you a really good idea what the game will actually look like as you are playing it.....
