I'm going to just reiterate what I said before; Geoff poisoned the well implying he was about to reveal a spiritual successor to Titanfall and it was a F2P hero shooter, like we really need another one of those, and it soured a lot of people instantly.
Without Geoff this game would be dead since day 1. At least it got some free marketing. These retards made a GAAS in secret without public beta tests or external feedback and pretty much shadow droped they game.

Look to all you assholes criticizing the failure rate of GaaS games, remember that 99% of addicted gamblers quit before hitting it big.

I respect people who don't quit. Keep on spending money and time you pioneers of the gaming industry. Just keep on trying. You will make the next Fortnite, roblox, etc, etc

Based on the negative comments from an actual gameplay standpoint I think this game was dead on arrival anyways, but Geoff helped really drive the hate for this game. That "and one last thing" placement made people go out of their way to hate this game.

Today we're sharing difficult news. We have made the decision to permanently shut down Highguard on March 12.
Since launch, more than 2 million players stepped into Highguard's world. You shared feedback, created content, and many believed in what we were building. For that, we are deeply grateful.
Despite the passion and hard work of our team, we have not been able to build a sustainable player base to support the game long term. Servers will remain online until March 12th. We hope you'll jump in with us one more time to show your support and get those final great matches in while we still can.
The team is excited to release one final game update to enjoy in the remaining life of the game. We'll be adding a new Warden, a new weapon, account level progression, and skill trees! Full patch notes are coming, and we're targeting tonight or tomorrow morning for patch release.
From all of us at Wildlight, thank you for playing, for supporting us, and for being part of Highguard's story.

It's truly impressive how hard they attempt to spin an abject failure. Grateful, passion, hard work, part of the story.

Breh, the team is EXCITED to release one final update that'll be playable for eight days lol. Come the fuck on 😭

When they say "team", do they mean the skeleton crew of 5 people left at the company? Or does that include all the already fired people too?

"Alright just another bad game and not another sign of an extremely high risk genre failing to produce consistent hits GaaS is the PRESENT and FUTURE of everything every CHILD is playing some GaaS which MEANS single-player games and regular multiplayer games are for GRANDPAS and are DEAD and are too risky trust me *nervous chuckle* I'm an expert and I never get anything wrong." -- Know-it-all games 'journalists' in their 40's and 50's blabbering another pile of nonsense into a microphone, completely oblivious to the consequences of their wrongness.

People of all ages have 24 hours in a day. They do not have the time to play a bunch of games that never end. This is the fundamental problem with GaaS.

Know-it-alls will be proven wrong again and again as more and more developers get laid off, studios get shutdown, projects get canceled, and games get shutdown. I hope I'm wrong, but it looks like we're in for a ruthless overcorrection in live service gaming that will impact the industry in the nastiest of ways.

'From all of us at Wildlight, thank you for playing, for supporting us, and for being part of Highguard's story.'

Reminds me of that Malcom Tucker quote: 'This is history in the making - the end of a chapter of a very thin book that nobody enjoyed reading.'

This my biggest issue with MP only games, they entirely depend on players to survive. Even a SP game doesn't do commercially well I can still play it 20 years later but with online only games once it fails you literately lose access to the game.

Geoff poisoned the well implying he was about to reveal a spiritual successor
Did he?

He just said that's what the devs worked on. Which is true. When they announced Fallen Order, they said "From the director of God of War 3". No one assumed it was the spiritual successor of God of War 3.

Never played it, I don't game online anymore, but I will say that it was a travesty that this game was the final reveal in the 2025 TGAs. Not sure if that was entirely on Geoff or whatever, but I think/hope Geoff is gonna be extra motivated after that to try to get his hands on an epic reveal this year to make up for that disgrace back in December. It's supposed to be reserved for special reveals and it turned out to be a game next to no one cared about that didn't even make it a quarter of a year.

This has happened enough times that you would think that the rest of the industry would be paying attention. Even watching the interviews and developer videos, it feels like there is absolutely no passion.

Sad. Im more of a SP gamer but i'd very much rather play this than the majority of other MP games out there. People gush over stuff like Arc Raiders and Deadlock and both those games honestly bored me to tears in comparison.
