Highguard Shutting Down

I'm going to just reiterate what I said before; Geoff poisoned the well implying he was about to reveal a spiritual successor to Titanfall and it was a F2P hero shooter, like we really need another one of those, and it soured a lot of people instantly.
Could be a factor, but I don't think Titanfall's fanbase is large enough to lead to this mess. It wasn't even the only live service game shown there, so it's clear that people were just ultimately mad at it being the final announcement.

I like that these people are so high on toxic positivity echo chambers they can't just simply pull the plug, they have to have one more opportunity to encourage people to show up and tell them how great the game is and how much it's the chuds fault the game didn't do well of an injustice it is that the game isn't a hit.

lmao does that mean that they took down their own farewell post? That'd fit with the extreme thin skinned coward behaviour they've shown on social media this entire time.
All due to them wanting to replicate magic shadow dropping it again like it's Apex Legends v2.0. That was their initial plan, but ended up getting a big Keighley plug a month earlier. It would had been even worse if there wasnt a TGA plug. Would be the same shitty game with fewer people knowing or trying it.

The only thing they got right was it was free (for any gamers who arent against F2P games). Everything else was a trainwreck.

Right from the trailer, they tried to scam gamers. They made it look like a fast paced COD shooter in big maps and had 4 vs 4 play (at minimum). Turns out the 4th guy killed wasnt a 4th enemy, but the 1st guy shot off a horse (didnt die) who circled back off screen as the last guy shot. This made the teams bigger than it looked when reality was 3 vs 3 in more boring phased gameplay. They knew 3 vs 3 would be lousy, so they didnt tell gamers till launch.

Similar to Concord announcing itself with a high-budget GotG-flavored story cinematic before segueing into the reveal it was a hero shooter. I'm not saying either game would have been a success otherwise, but both had retarded reveals that poisoned the well from the start.

You're severely out of touch if you think Marathon will shut down within a year and yet think Mindseye is a good game.

At least we can agree Cronos is fucking amazing. ❤️

I love that the MindsEye bullshit is the only thing anyone can pull out of their ass to try and "get me" here :messenger_grinning_smiling:

You have 60 days fam.

So, how long you guys gonna guess people gonna start making articles blaming the gamers, because gamers are toxic, owing the chuds, etc?
Because I'm already seeing people doing the pre-emptive defense with Marathon.

In other news, Fleekazoid gonna make THE video about this. Can't wait!

I think Marathon is too big to fail like that, yeah, but at the same time I don't think it'll be a big success either.

Hopefully Sony's current leadership will be out on their ass within a few years because of the failure of their direction (in terms of games, anyway) and we get some people who are actually in touch with the market.

Shut down, I doubt.... but I assume the CCUs won't be that high after a month or two.

The difference is that Marathon can be played Solo at least. Possibly they will get people to pay over time the $40 to play through the story content. Enough to keep the servers running.

What a wild ride this was. From the ridiculous reveal, the brutal reaction, the echo chamber devs, the terrible player numbers, devs lashing out on social media; this game had it all.

Godspeed, Highguard.
This is now almost a recipe for this devs, we know the script almost by memory now, you missed the media trying to paint it as the next coming of Jesus and to "ignore the haters"

2 million players and they couldn't keep the lights on? That's the concerning part about all of this.
Hard to make mtx money when 1.995M of them drop off the first week. lol

But dont feel too bad for them gaf. A ton of people got paid good money for years to make this lousy game. And they surely got severance when fired and many probably already got a other job as gaming seems like a very nepotism kind of industry where people float around from studio to studio. If people from Concord could get another job (Professor got a job at EA fast), I'm sure Wildlight people can.

No company or investor group is getting a dime back from this trainwreck.

we are at the point where every gaashit game maker is sitting around saying "what do we do to make sure we ARE NOT Concord or Highguard?"

I really thought the game would carve out a path.

This right here is the core of the problem, the ego of thinking they have a guaranteed hit oh their hands so they can just shadow drop it again like Apex and everyone will definitely love it. Nevermind doing any kind of player tested alpha, simply just a concept trailer put out during early development would've given them the feedback to let them know they need to go back to the drawing board.

All they had to do it show the design of the guy that appears 2 seconds in the trailer to a normal person early, but nope. Gotta be positive and suck up to product people and stuff. Game dead 10 frames into the initial trailer.

very weird concept,
very boring art design,
boring characters,

and I bet it didn't help that the console versions were pure ass either. with low resolutions, noticeable input lag, 60fps only, broken deadzone on PS5 (that's a known UE5 issue, but the devs clearly either didn't playtest or suck at their own genere of game and therefore didn't notice)

Today we're sharing difficult news. We have made the decision to permanently shut down Highguard on March 12.
Since launch, more than 2 million players stepped into Highguard's world. You shared feedback, created content, and many believed in what we were building. For that, we are deeply grateful.
Despite the passion and hard work of our team, we have not been able to build a sustainable player base to support the game long term. Servers will remain online until March 12th. We hope you'll jump in with us one more time to show your support and get those final great matches in while we still can.
The team is excited to release one final game update to enjoy in the remaining life of the game. We'll be adding a new Warden, a new weapon, account level progression, and skill trees! Full patch notes are coming, and we're targeting tonight or tomorrow morning for patch release.
From all of us at Wildlight, thank you for playing, for supporting us, and for being part of Highguard's story.

The stupid thing is they were able to act fast and patch up a bunch of stuff and add 5 vs 5 mode fast. I think all this came in about a week.

It wouldnt had mattered, but it would had made the vanilla game better. All they had to do was a last minute beta test lets say 2 weeks before launch. Have a beta for a bunch of days and that would give the team time to get feedback and fix up many issues for launch.

Nope. Had to still shadow drop it. You'd think with Concord not too long ago, any dev making a shooter game would ensure they get feedback before it's too late (even if it's a closed off beta test). Gaming is an industry where it's so easy to get gamer feedback. It's not like a company selling sweaters or lawnmowers. How the hell are you going to get feedback unless you mail 1000s of people a prototype to test out? You cant. Gaming, just talk to gamers and do a demo or beta download and there you go.
