Hogwarts Legacy PC Performance Thread

I'm not sure I'd recommend doing this anymore. Or maybe I done it wrong. The game dropped to <10fps everytime I done a spell lol. The game definitely seemed less stuttery but if I can't do spells then I might as well not play.

Are you having those drops only one time per spell? If so, it's shader compilation.
If it happens all the time, then it's something else.

When you used those tweaks, did you apply on the correct exe. It's usually the one that says Win64shipped

I was spamming the Flipendo (basic spell) and every time it was dropping.

Maybe I got the wrong exe but I only saw one. The game is running fine now for me anyway. Not stuttering as much so no reason for me to apply the tweaks. Hope it helps others though :)

This game destroyed my theories.

I always theorized that games performed well because not enough people on PC bought them. More people buy on consoles to play games, more attention diverted to consoles.
But PC version is almost as gigantic as Elden Ring from the looks of SteamDB. 600k player there. Yet, optimization is still not up to the task.
From my experience console versions are also fucked usually, just slightly less. So its not a matter of where the attention is being diverted to, but rather that theres no attention in the first place.

And considering this game is receiving overwhelmingly positive reviews right now, the truth it seems is most people won't care as long as it runs decently enough.

Is it the one inside phoenix -binaeries - win64?

Because i probably picked the other one in the general hogwarts legacy folder in steamapps - common - HL.

But it is not called win64 shipped, there is a file called win64 shipped and then the exe in the phoenix - binaries- win64 folder.

The best way to confirm which exe it is, is to run the game, then open Task manager. Click on the game's process and select the option to open the File Location.

But i have 2 game process in the task manager so how do i know what is the right one if i don't know what is the correct exe position?

What's the word, should I go out and buy this on PS5 or can my 3080 x5950 handle this at 4K? Work is almost over and I am very impulsive.

Not sure what that patch did - but it seems to be running better. Weird, it should be DLC crap.

I'm getting way less stutter.

The 3080 seems to do 4k with RTX off. 4K+DLSS needed for more consistent 60 fps.
PS5 4k mode runs at 30 fps but doesn't seem to reach 4k most of the time.

However keep in mind this game varies in performance a lot depending on the area. You might also need to do some of the fixes mentioned here to get the best performance possible on the PC.

Fixed now.

These are the tweaks I used:

I don't have RTX on and see above.
This is true. RTX off makes the game run way better. But I really wanted to keep it on

There is no traditional fullscreen mode. This windowed fullscreen mode is locked to the resolution windows is running at.

It's pretty shitty. They've effectively locked out downsampling.
Fuck are you kidding me? I just entered the thread to ask about this. Why are modern devs not giving us the option for exclusive fullscreen anymore? It's maddening.

The PC version is a roll of the dice right now, in my opinion. Also, it could be several hours until you reach the part of the game that gives you performance issues and then you might not be able to get a refund. The issues people are having are on a variety of PC setups and no one seems to be able to pin down any single common issue.

Or it could run flawlessly.

Thank you. I appreciate the response. I went ahead and bought it on steam.

The game is so fun that my performance issues on PC (3080ti and 11900k) forced me to also buy the PS5 version as well despite being 10 hours in. Installing it now. It's really scratching an itch I didn't know I had.

Game is great yo. Sometimes I wish I didn't have a gf so I could just enjoy my games at 38. That's what I love bout them video games, I keep getting older and they just stay the same.

Guess what? Not that my wife disrupts my gaming in any way.... but she is flying to italy tomorrow with her friends from work... and I just happen to take monday and tuesday off.... well then.

It didn't for me. I'm just trying to run 1080p 60fps on all low settings and the stutter is terrible now.

3050ti
AMD 5600H
16 GB RAM

My 32 GB of RAM was just delivered, gonna try installing that when I get home from work and see if it helps.

Is RAM really making that big of a difference?

Guess it may be time to rip out the dual channel set I have from my second PC (that's identical to my main PC), and put it in my main.

Playing with the Switch pro controller.
The button mapping is wrong when using spells.

Anybody know of a fix?

Don't ruin the experience, PC version is another WB cash grabber joke.
not to mention lack of Dualsense support. a magical game calls for a magical gamepad that is out of ordinary. haptic feedback effects in this particular game > 4k ray tracing

experience > resolution+framerate

this is rare times I side with my boi Rofif. game is best played on PS5

Are there any platform comparison videos for this game?
I have all platforms, want to know where to play it. Leaning on getting it on console to better play it with the kids, but where does it run the best?

Just posting in the OT thread on not knowing which way to go PC/PS5 this is swaying me a bit. Really hate these console price tags tho.

PC - $47/57 for standard/deluxe on some key sites
PS5 - $70/80 for standard/deluxe

I'm getting playable performance (> 60 fps) with my 3080 (10GB) @ 3440x1440 with Ultra settings, DLSS quality and no RTX, though it certainly doesn't seem as well optimized as it could be.

For me it's been night and day.

I just got to Hogsmeade, ran around the town and did the "setpiece event" - completely responsive combat, no stutters. I dropped a few frames while running around Hogsmeade and I'm getting some texture pop-ins reminiscent of UE3 games during PS3/360 days. I keep holding my breath waiting for the performance to tank, but I just had a really solid 2 hour session.

The game still needs optimization for sure, but I'm having a good time now.

I can’t believe it. The game will go down in history for making us stop fighting even if just for one day.

You really are a wizard Yamaci.

How does that work?

As a current 16GB pleb, this saddens me. Welp, off to order some new RAM.
which ram did you pick?

I was getting 60 fps locked with RT reflections on inside and then i go into the courtyard and boom 30 fps. shadows and AO are a huge hit. i go from 60% GPU usage to 95% and the framerate tanks to 38-45 fps.

Is this a good RAM to get?

  • Memory Type: DDR4
  • Pin Configuration: 288-pin
  • Memory Speed: PC4-25600
  • Memory Speed (MHz): DDR4-3200
  • Memory Capacity: 32GB (2 x 16GB)
$76. Thats the cheapest 32GB DDR4 3200 ive seen.

What CPU/Motherboard do you currently have, and what RAM do you currently have?
B560 Tomahawk Wifi. i7-11700k.

This is the RAM i have. GSkill Ripjaws V Series 16GB. Ive heard not to mix and match or even buy two sets of the same RAM so just going to go with 32 GB for now.
