Hogwarts Legacy Switch 2 version: ~1440p docked and 1080p portable.

It would be weird, I hope HDR is not limited to portable due to HDMI limitations
Here's I'm self correcting, but MP4 has HDR support in docked mode so clearly not a technical limitation of the Switch itself, maybe it has to do with the devs implementation, a transcript error in the text or a misintepretation...

Nvidia leaks? Those leaks are too old, The Switch 2 design wasn't even ready by that time and forget about the development tools. The DLSS is so "bad" that DF crew can't even differentiate if is Native res or Upscaled…Don't fall in the trap like DF of using a PC with a configuration "similar" to the Switch 2… Because is not going to work. Nvidia designed the API for the Switch 2 to squeeze all the power of their Custom designed Chip. For the first time devs are going to squeeze all the power of the CUDA cores and TENSOR cores due the access to the metal. Street Fighter and Cyberpunk DLSS looks top tier.
The DLSS used in those games is much worst than OC DLSS CNN which is exactly what my point was.

The output IQ is the most important part here. DLSS has certainly played a huge role in pushing the IQ further than the native IQ, and DLSS isn't free.

Take a look at these games that are being internally rendered in lower resolution than the native PS4 version but producing higher image quality than the PS4 version.

At the end of the day, DLSS is proving to be a game changer for Switch 2 and even managed to trade blow against Xbox Series S in some games like SF6, Wild Hearts, Suikoden Remastered, and CIV 7.
Yeap like I always say the Switch 2 is great but let's not get ahead of ourselves. Even a smaller DLSS model is better than checkerboard rendering or basic TAA but it also has its limits just like PC DLSS CNN did.

all of the screenshots released that I know of have only been available in 1080p resolution, I did think when looking at them that the sampling quality was really high so it makes sense it's actually running at a higher resolution, The other issue is that the videos even when set to 4k, there is just so much compression in whatever source there using that a lot of the image detail is washed away. You can see this when you look at the cloaks and many of the textures. So actually seeing a high quality feed of this game I think will make such a difference.

hands on event old builds
They should absolutely state this when showing the product as it's made me and many others kinda feel it's not worth it from hands on reviews.

I guess I'll wait for a final release as I'm not in a rush to buy a bunch of titles but for third party it was this or cyberpunk

well DF's pixelcounts suggested it runs at 720p. so this could be a modified version of DLSS performance mode. it does look blurrier than you'd expect, but at least in motion it looked cleaner than you'd expect.

so this version of DLSS might be more optimised towards motion clarity instead of image sharpness.
I really think the issue might actually be low quality down sampling to 1080p in the screenshots.

Just realized, it's less than a month till release and still no (U.S.) preorder option, no official boxart, etc.

Is this game coming in hot..🤔?

The only problem I have with quoting "up to 1440p" etc is that games can be upscaled to a specific resolution from a lower one and then output to the TV where it will then be upscaled again to 4K. So Hogwarts Legacy on Switch 2 might output at 1440p on a 4K TV but that does not mean that it isn't upscaled from 1080p or lower to that resolution before being sent to the TV.

I was prepared to pay full price for this. Sounds like a substantial upgrade I'll happily pay $10 for. Bravely Default and a 1TB Express SD card are next up on the list.

Switch 2
Docked ~1440p(DLSS)
Handheld 1080p(DLSS)
Seamless between area

PS4
~900p
Not seamless between area

PS4 pro
~1080p
~Not seamless between area

Xbox Series S
Quality mode ~1188p
Performance mode ~900p
Seamless between area

What's the framerate of these?

I wonder why it doesn't have a 60 fps mode btw, they probably just focused on 30 fps mode to be ready for console launch
I'm not sure because I've only seen metroid prime 4 do this for the moment but to me it sounds like it must be annoying for devs having to tweak performance/quality node on top of already having to make sure docked and portable presets are running as they wish. That would mean 4 presets to test.

This makes total sense to me...

As someone who tested this at Switch 2 Experience in Docked, its pretty terrible, sub-30 fps, and its not a looker, with obvious jaggies. This really isnt Switch 2 optimized yet.
Considering they keep mentioning "improved framerates" Im going to guess the build they have for the Switch 2 event is an old build and they now have it running at an extremely steady 30fps (maybe even higher for handheld)

So basically we're now at the point where Switch 2 is like somewhere between PS4 Pro and Series S, but typically coming in closer to Series S. For a portable? I can definitely live with that.

Interesting. So probably 1440p at 30 fps solid on launch day, probably. That's not "terrible" if they get it there.

I would say it's either......

- A PS4 Pro+

or

- An Xbox Series S-lite

$10 upgrade

Nice, hopefully you can upgrade the physical version, I haven't found a way to do it yet.

I thought I read there would be no upgrade path so that's great news.

Does that leave Sonic, Raidou, and Suikoden as the only ones that don't offer an upgrade?
Puyo 2S too which is very dumb since there likely barely any difference from the Switch version. Seems like Sega hates the concept.

How does this work if you own the physical version.
When you boot the game, on the save select screen there's a option "Additional Content" on there it has a prompt to upgrade to the Switch 2 version, seems to be working atm on US eShop from what I read on the reddit thread but I tried it in EU it redirects you to the eShop and gives a content not found error.

Quick, before they raise prices! There's really no physical version of this game anyways!

As much as this makes sense and I want to do this, I still want something physical to attach to the game...this is still a no-brainer for anyone that doesn't care about physical at all

I already got it on sale a while back on the Switch. The path of least dinero is the one for me on this title.

But what's the native resolution, I am tired of these upscaling techniques masquerading the native one.
Does it matter when your eyes only see the final result anyway? Maybe it's not exactly as good as a native resolution, but ultimately it still makes more sense to talk about the output resolution after DLSS.

And after all, DLSS is also a spec of the machine, we can't ignore it like "see? It's weak, told ya!". They designed this machine with DLSS in mind.

Exactly, Wtf cares what native res is when it looks crisp and clear in your eyes.

That's the entire point of DLSS, to deliver an extremely sharp and clear image regardless of whatever the heck native resolution it's running at.

This is cool and all but I'm going to be a negative Nancy and say there is nothing in me that wants to play through this game again even if i really enjoyed it the first time.
