I would say that pretty much all the MCU Movies including the Thor and Cap sequels are pretty mediocre compared to any of Edgar Wright's movies. He really is one of the best directors of the 2000's. My interest has kind of died, even as a big comic book fan.

Are they really going to make script changes and get a new director and start shooting immediately? The movie is only a year out. That's why this is particularly worrying. Who can they get to fill his shoes on such short notice and do the film justice?

The thing is, we just don't know enough yet. You could be right. But we really have no idea what the circumstances were.

For what it's worth, Alan Taylor also complained about creative differences with Marvel. And it shows in the film. They came back at the last minute wanting to shoot more Loki scenes, which then took spotlight away from the films main antagonist and that ended up being a major complaint about the film.

The wacky oddballs forming a badass team is not new. But in films where folks wringed their hands over putting out anything that wasn't an already well known brand it is groundbreaking. I mean Rocket Raccoon is getting a movie before the Flash or Wonder Woman. That takes balls.

Exactly. It's a financial risk—in that it's a new IP and every new IP is a financial risk—but at this point, Disney's been churning/reviving new IPs pretty regularly (and successfully) through Marvel. will the movie take creatives risks? that remains to be seen. if we go by the way Disney's handled/introduced previous new IPs... well, I wouldn't hold my breath.

That's not it either. Around Spider-Man 3 and before the Marvel studios movies people started complaining that everything was too grim and gritty. It's just that there's always going to be someone to complain about something because it doesn't fit their preferences, and then they just start making dumb blanket statements.

Wright makes nothing but amazing movies and clearly this was a passion project for him. Where does it go now?

Singer left to do Superman Returns when Fox refused to halt production of X-men 3 to wait for him. Ratner came into the picture like (8 months) before the release date. People blame the mess of the film on him but it was really corporate fuckery.
 
Well that fucking sucks, especially because it looked to be one of Marvel Studio's most ambitious projects ever.

I don't think Edgar Wright's leave will affect whether or not a good Ant-Man movie is ever produced, but in terms of this specific project it is worrying to have the vision altered only a year from release. Although, a lot of the outcry here seems to be from people looking forward to a movie directed by Wright more than an Ant-Man movie.
 
This sucks and I was hype for Wright, but hope is not lost.

It's still got the stench of potench. They've earned the benefit with Winter Soldier imo (among a string of highly entertaining flicks).

All this just another marvel movie talk is pretty hilarious after we just had Captain America 2 - The Bourne Identity 5 and are coming up on Gunns GOTG.

It's a very big deal that after all this time and planning that this happens now but holy shit the reactions here remind me of this

That's the thing, they literally don't have time to make that deadline. So if that date for the release is firm then they have to use the same script and actors. They'll have to get some shitty fill in director to do the actual work. Hell, due to the timing, most of the serious directors are already locked up for the next couple of years.

It's also not "anti-marvel" bullshit. Unless you glossed over the part where I want the movie to be good and I hope that it's fun.

I don't give a shit which company makes my entertainment, I just care that they hire the right people to make it entertaining. Be that Marvel, or Paramount, or New Line, or any other giant multimedia conglomerate is funding these hundred-million-dollar indulgences into my adolescence.

Its entirely possible Wright wanted another massive delay, and Marvel decided that the eight years they gave him already was enough. They bumped this movie from Phase 1 to Phase 3 for Wright, maybe they just wanted to see some actual forward momentum?

I'm saying we don't need to be pointing fingers when they say that it's an amicable split due to creative differences. Yes it sucks because the movie is so close to production, but it's not like we know for sure that one party is clearly at fault.

When the story DOES come out, it's sure as hell going to be interesting. EVEN IF it's amicable. These sorts of skid-outs aren't all THAT normal. I mean, they happen, but damn.

Problem is that whoever is coming on has a little over a year to get this shit done. It would have been better to delay it but make the stipulation that if X progress isn't done by a certain date then Wright gets the boot. This whole thing is a clusterfuck now.

This, can't see how Marvel would kick Wright out when they waited patiently for Wright to even be available and like you said other directors got their vision.
 
Wright's entire fanbase must be located on gaf because his box office sure doesn't support a larger one.

I love the "we won't get Wright's unique vision now." Dude was making a heist movie. Jason Statham is in one of those like every other year.

My assumption based on nothing is that this is entirely based around scheduling and marvel didn't want to or couldn't justify pushing the film back anymore.
