I like it.

especially the "TL esque" headlights :drool

They should really get rid of that spoiler though.

Holy f'k... a mini TL... hmmm am I interested in stepping back down a few levels for a car? Very nice. What's up with the rear though... who told them the Maxima's rear looks good? It doesn't.

It's more of a mini Accord-Coupe than anything imo.

Oops, btw:
The 2006 Civic launches in the U.S. this fall and will include a 4-door sedan, 2-door coupe and Si Coupe, Hybrid and a natural gas version, the GX. The concept is powered by a 200 hp, 16-valve, DOHC, I-VTEC engine with an 8,000 rpm redline. Getting power to the road is helped by a helical-type limited slip differential.

Other Si features are 18-inch wheels and tires, 4 wheels discs, cross-drilled rotors and 4-piston Brembo calipers.
Sounds nice - very zippy ride.

I'm sure the final production version will be toned down a bit, but still a nice move by Honda. The Civic has lost its agressiveness the last few years. This will be a return to their roots.

Only bad news? Return of Ricers...ugh.

...and that, kids, was the first time I sucked a dick for crack
It's a good looking vehicle, but it's good looks are totally fucked by its hatchback-esque body. Thus, the car looks about as ugly as Nissan's new hatchback concept.

This new Civic looks ok...

I personally like the look of the current Si hatchback myself...a buddy of mine just got one and I think it's very good.

What I'd rather see is Honda America releasing a next-gen Civic Type-R hatchback here in the US =)

Did they show interior shots? Is the stick shift still on the freakin dash?! That was the gayest moment of driving my friends 2004 SIR.

200HP in this new concept yes... 200HP in the mass produced not very likely. I'd say 160HP stock

I thought the rally-styled elevated stick shift was cool when I drove my buddy's Si...very close to the wheel for less arm movement and therefore faster shifts.

This is just a concept - they did not show the interior.
Some Honda dude said that this is 90% production though :) (i.e. tone down the crazy spoiler & hood, add some door handles, tone down the head-lights, bam!)

Very nice IMO. Especially compared to the ugly-ass econobox Si they produced last. The thing looked like a glorified Echo. Anyway, too bad it's FWD. Do you really need a LSD in a FWD car? PEACE.

Honda is fighting for their lives right now. They've lost their 2nd spot (behind Toyota) to Nissan in sales and are now coming out swinging. They've also got their new NSX and S2000 updates that's going to be shown soon too.

too much accord coupe and i never really liked the accord coupe. but they fixed the front to look more like more acuras, that is to say, the better looing hondas from elsewhere.

but really, what happened to the hatchbacks? i want a hatchback si(r). the last nice ones were the eg and ef.

I think Honda set sales records last year - mainly from the strength of their Acura brand (TSX, TL, MDX...), but they're still in good shape.

With no CRX, Prelude, and a struggling S2000 though, Honda is turning into boring Toyota...which is why this new Civic is nice to see :)

that's why it's time to collapse acura back in and get rid of the lame north american bloated accord while they're at it.

will probably ship with k20a2 or z, no on the brembos, 17" with shitty michelins, aero will be an option, no on the exhaust.

if they put the lsd in the factory std i'm going to kill someone though, unless it mates up to my transmission and is cheap

LSD is essential in a high performance FWD. It eliminates tourque steer and totally changes the cornering. LSD is standard on most fast Japanese FWD cars and a lot of European FWD makes too.

Some stats on the mass produced 2001 Civic Type-R:

6 speed manual
Curb weight, kg 1190
Max.power 215 ps (158.13 kw) / 8000 rpm
LSD (Limited slip differential)
17 inch standard alloys

I don't see anything unreasonable about these concept specs.

I'll have to stare at this for a while before I can judge it one way or the other. First impression is that it's very sleek and trim-looking, but it doesn't look like a Honda.

I don't know why, but when I look at it, it looks like it should transform into a robot or fly off the ground. But that's just me.

Let me take this opportunity, since I still can't figure out if I like this thing, to remind you that anything with the Si badge on it is going to be insurance hell, so you probably don't want it anyway. The current Si costs as much to insure as a Dodge Viper or Porsche 911 convertible, even though it's got a fraction of the performance.

ok, while i think it SHOULD have the LSD, iirc the only fwd car honda has ever shipped with an LSD in the US is the type r.

anyways, if this is the si, either the rsx (teg) is gone or will get a major power bump.

there are those rumors of factory FI too...

oh, and we still don't know if they went back to front double wishbone for the new civic platform

Why do you say that? The last Type-R Civic and Integra shared the same engine (K20A). The Integra isn't gone just because the power stakes are being upped.

also consider the fact this SI looks pretty much dead on how a TSX like coupe should look.. which would logically be the RSX's function

a better civic si. well, not really si trim level, but it is a hatch in keeping with the tradition that hatches are the sportiest civics dating back from the 1500s all the way to the type r.

f*ck.... that's hot. The nose and roof line are actually very similar to the coupe at the top of this thread. Honda tryin to get back in front of the Mazda 3's, Scion tc's, etc... and look like more than just a solid but bland car again?

I own a 2000 Si. I briefly contemplated getting a 3door 2002+ Si. I'm not touching that with a 10 foot pole...

I'm done with Civic's for now. I'm either moving onto an STi, Evo, or 350Z.

There are some Ridgeline cues in that thing, but overall I think it looks more French than Japanese. Not necessarily a bad thing, since we don't have any French cars in the states (Nissans don't count).

A new Civic hatchback model is being developed especially for our customers in Europe. From the earliest development concept, the styling of the new Civic was designed to appeal to our customers’ emotions. The body was made wider and lower to achieve a distinct sporty style that is new and unique to Honda. In addition, the new Civic offers class-leading performance with excellent environment and safety technologies.
poor hatch :(

After some of the issues I had with my Prelude (tranny, suspension, cd player, etc), things that were only supposed to happen to "domestics", I promised myself that I would never buy another Honda.

I am now in the market for another car, and I must say, the pictures in this thread are making me consider breaking my promise.

Man, if I could afford I would just collect cars...it's a sickness :/

My everyday car back home in the US is a 2003 Civic -Si.
It's a pretty cool little car and I'm partial to hatches.

The new Civic looks all right although I must say with that design and anything up from my car's 160HP is going to totally mean the return of ricers to the Honda brand.

the concept that was shown was a 200 HP 4 cyl with a 6-speed tranny. not sure if thatll be final but I think that would be a good package as long as they do something about the suspension which in the newer civics looks pretty cheesy.

It drives like a dream, it's one of my personal favorites too (I happen to like the looks) but you just have to be careful who you're insuring it through. Some companies, like AAA, are absolutely brutal on the Si because of the ricer stigma it carries...
