Honestly, what does Microsoft need to do with Scorpio to solidify your purchase?

Sega Nu?? Sounds intriguing, never heard of that before. Will look it up

It's their most recent arcade platform. Headliner games are Chunithm and Wonderland Wars, along with the Initial D revival and later Project Diva releases.

The thing is, though, it's an embedded Windows not-quite-a-midrange-PC anyway, which is exactly what Scorpio is aiming for. I want some synergies like Namco's System 11/System 246, with quick easy and likely ports to match.

No more than £350, announced alongside at least a half dozen new, single player focused exclussive games.

Just a more powerful Xbox does nothing for me. Games are what matters, and unless that changes, I'm getting a Switch instead.

Just say you are not gonna buy it at all then. :D

I'd like to keep a more open mind than that. Plus what is the point of a super strong GPU if not for more pixels? If Sony has boost mode (which imo is hardly even noticeable) shouldn't there be a way to do the same thing but for resolution in games instead of fps? I'm not an engineer but the dudes at MS are really good at software and hardware generally speaking. I think they could maybe do some cool shit like that, just to give an incentive for people with 4K TVs to be interested in their console. They are touting it as the first true 4K console after all, it would be disappointing to see it outputting games at 1080p (and below for 360 stuff)

$399. I don't think I would bother if it's more than that. Even if it was worth it. I have a hard maximum for console prices.

No matter how powerful or weak a console is at the end of its life only one thing matters: How good were the exclusives and third party support? And Microsoft is atm way behind everybody when it comes to worthwhile exclusives (based on my opinion).

The same thing it would take to get me to buy any Xbox...

A long term commitment to developing new, unique IP that isn't just a bunch of CG trailers for games that later get cancelled.

It needs to be noticeably more powerful than the Pro that I own. Like, at least thriceas good for me to consider it for third party games. At $399.

As I already own an Xbox One, which I rarely use, it's a bit of an uphill battle for Microsoft to get me to buy a Scorpio. If I was using the Xbox One frequently, I'd happily upgrade to a Scorpio at some point (I bought a PS4 Pro), but right now I just don't see the games to justify it. Scorpio will, no doubt, have the best looking/performing console multiplatforms, but I don't imagine the gap will frequently be big enough to justify the console, especially when every one of the people in my gaming circle owns a PS4.

Microsoft need to recapture the kinds of exclusive/console-exclusive games lineup that they managed at the early part of the last generation. They are so, so far away from that at this point, though, it probably would only take two truly great games to turn it around for me. The thing is, nothing Xbox has done this generation (or, frankly, quite a few years before it) has indicated them being close to greatness with their exclusives.

Apologize for introducing pay-for-online and make online free.

Other than that, compelling exclusives, the main reason to buy any system.

I'm in. Unless they manage some incredible XBOX One reveal type fuckery. I'm too invested in XBOX after 14 years on XBOX Live not to be in.

I'm in with pretty much every new console from MS, Sony and Nintendo. I hope we can achieve Ubisoft reveal bullshit graphics soon.

It would need to be either a gigantic visual leap from the PS4 Pro, more than just checkerboard versus native, or have a number of exciting new IPs announced and coming in the near future (which seems highly unlikely at this point). I think it'll be a great machine for those that have an Xbox One as their main console but not do much else to entice new customers.

I feel bad for giving such a simple answer after such a well thought out OP but......They just need to release it.

Xbox One has been underpowered most of this gen, now they will be on par or slightly more powerful.

Destiny 2 and Red Dead 2 are def being played on it.

I'm on board. I guess I lack a lot of the hang ups of others but as long as they continue to have the best controller and I can keep game sharing with my brother, they've got me.

Not really a question of if but more so when... maybe fall 2018 or whenever halo 6 launches:

Right now this fall seems unlikely though... i dont think this thing is going to showcase that much more graphics difference than the ps4 pro when it comes to 3rd party games and if it does i expect it to be $500+.... im not dropping 560 plus tax on a new system just for crackdown 3 this fall which currently is the only xb1 game im interested in. With plenty releasing 3rd party wise fall 2017 on top of becoming a switch owner later and a new mario microsoft has to work the hardest to get me back invested in their ecosystem, forza and sea of thieves arent enough

If third party games perform better on Scorpio then that's where I'll be buying them instead of my PS4 Pro. Sorry Sony but the Pro will become a Sony exclusive machine only.

Share the ecosystem with Windows. Steam/Origin/Uplay/Microsoft Store games on Scorpio, playback natively, while Xbox One games work on Windows.

What you'll get is a trojan horse, a solidification of Windows, and a home entertainment PC. For PC gamers, it has value as a setupbox / Media Center PC that plays and works with the content they care most about. On the other end of the spectrum it means that Microsoft will not always have to play catch up with all these risky and devestating deals with trying to get third party exclusives and paying large sums of money for content that is already there.
Steam/Uplay/Origin/GoG/Amazon/whatever games would need to be retrofitted and have some "optimal settings" and porting, but I'd imagine it would be a checkbox when you go to to steam and look at a game "playable on Windows, OSX, Linux, Xbox One Scorpio". Great.

if 'play anywhere' takes off i could see Scorpio being my first 4K console. but there's going to have to be a lot of exclusives to sweeten the deal... so far i'm not really seeing it

I don't know, I sold my XB1 last year because MS 1st party doesn't move the needle for me outside of Forza. If I'm going to get a second console to pair with PS4 Pro, it makes way more sense to get a Switch.

If it has a VR system that's a huge upgrade from PSVR (Wireless, compact, can do augmented R, combined with upgraded Kinect technology) I would be very interested.

Otherwise, I'm not interested in their IPs in general.

Exclusive titles from Japanese developers and indie XBLA games. That's what kept me happy during the 360 days, but I don't see them doing this again honestly.

There really isn't anything they could say to get me to buy any Xbox, least of all a Scorpio.

3 gens in and no exclusives yet that I found appealing is a clear pattern.
They have nothing for me.

Ask again in ten years.

Only thing that could make me buy a Xbox is exclusives that get my attention. So far, none of Xbox exclusives are interesting for me. Plus, they want to put those exclusives on PC, so less reason for me to buy a Xbox console. Although being honest, even on PC, while they still use their store and UWP, I don't plan to buy them anyways.

they could possibly get me to buy the scorpio is if it had exclusive games that i want to get. The other possible method would be " this is the way the game was supposed to be played' and show the massive differences between the xbox one and scorpio to the point where it looks like a whole new generation.

Mass Effect was fantastic. That's what got me to buy Xbox 360. That was uh some time ago though.

Just needs a few more first/second party games that aren't gears/halo/forza/fable.

I like those games, but I don't love them like I used to. A few more new experiences like Sunset Overdrive and Ori would be fantastic.

Sea of Thieves also looks promising. I'm pretty much almost there. They just need a few more games for me personally.

At this point when Sony is pumping out exclusive after exclusive in some of my favourite genres, it will be really hard for me to make the switch

they need to secure something like RDR2 as exclusive and only to xbox one/scorpio instead of PC too.

which makes it impossible to buy me system

Nothing can get me to buy a Scorpio. Much like the PS4 Pro, I enjoy great graphics, but I don't care enough to spend $400 for them. I would be willing to get a One S however, but in order for that to happen they need to...

-announce at least 2 new IP's with a focus on story and single player. Of course anything they do from this point on will have some sort of multiplayer component, but as long as it doesn't compromise the single player experience that's fine

-even if they announce 10 new IP's that appeal to me I will still wait and see. At this point I can't trust that anything from them that doesn't have Halo/Gears/Forza in the title will release not half-baked or even release at all

-OG Xbox BC. The prospect of paying KOTOR on something other than my iPad would be enough to get me to buy the console. Also the only 2 360 games that I have that aren't BC yet (L.A. Noire and Max Payne 3) being added would be great. Would love to sell off my 360

I would love to have an Xbox. Most of my friends are on there and there's some exclusives on there now that I really enjoy, and a couple in the pipeline that I'm intrigued by. Unfortunately none of them warrant me getting an Xbox for. I would love for that to change

If all 1st party games are still going to PC, then I have no reason to own one

That's pretty much it for me. Gears 4 even ended up being cross play for MP and coop. So there's really no point other than the convenience of a living room machine but I also hate the X1 dashboard. There's probably nothing they could do to get me to buy one other than having real exclusives.
