Yeah, that's one of my favorites, and I think the remake is completely needless. We didn't watch it now, as it's too fresh in memory.

It's been ages since I saw Tommyknockers, so I don't remember it that well either.

I also like The Shining mini-series, as it's faithful to the book, but the child actor and ending drags it down. As for the less known movies, Dreamcatcher is pretty entertaining.

Ugh...Dreamcatcher blew...it started out promising then veered off course and ruined what could have been awesome. Just another of his books that got turned into a shit movie.

Rose Red and the Mist were great though. I think Kingdom Hospital is his. That was a good series too. The Stand was awesome. I wish Needful Things would get a decent movie, that story told right would be glorious on screen.

I enjoyed Dreamcatcher quite a bit, but I can understand not liking a movie adaptation when it strays from the book. That's exactly what always annoys me in Kubrick's The Shining. The movie is good of course, but it could have been better as a more faithful adaptation. Particularly when it comes to portraying Jack's descent into madness, and the supernatural side of the story.

Rose Red was worse than I remembered, but I still love Storm of the Century for its villain and ending. It's so good when he mocks the townsfolk for their hypocrisy, and the ending gives me an even bigger smile.

Are there any of his works left to be filmed?

Don't forget about Christine, Carrie, and Cujo.

Unfortunately, I don't own Christine, remember Carrie all too well, and Cujo has never been one of my favorites, since I like supernatural horror films more. I'm itching to rewatch Pet Sematary, Silver Bullet, 1408 and both version of The Shining though.

I never knew that The Fat Boys - Ready for Freddy was made for the 4th movie. You can kinda tell that that's the movie right before they started going nuts with Freddy.

It kind of started with Dream Warriors the previous year. That Dokken video was incredibly cheesy and especially funny when you know the story that everyone was High of cocaine that Englund was cutting with the Freddy blades.

Are there any noteworthy sowjet horrormovies? I am also totally fine with recommentions to anything that was produced east of the iron curtain until 1990

Just bought tickets for this, which is one of the movies at a local Night Visions festival.

Seems like an interesting horror film.

”This year’s festival sleeper”
– Ben Larned / Bloody Disgusting

”Well-made independent horror film that continually hits a ceiling of quality”
– C.J. Prince / We Live Film

”Chillingly captivating”
– Richard Whittaker / The Austin Chronicle

”Sweet, Sweet Lonely Girl is a gothic horror film that chronicles the experience of Adele as she goes to live as a caregiver for her aging aunt Dora. Set against the social security crisis of the 1980 Reagan-Carter election, Sweet, Sweet Lonely Girl is an innovative play on genre, striking a bold intersection between the apparitions of a ghost story and the moralist lessons of the after school special.
When Adele’s mother gets a call for help from her rich sister, she sends Adele to live with her. Alone in a large, empty house, shuttling food and medicine to a woman who won’t leave her room or show her face, Adele grows lonely. She meets a local young woman, Beth, seductive and mysterious, with whom she quickly becomes intimate friends. Beth commands increasingly more of Adele’s time and focus, testing Adele’s moral ground as she starts to abandon her responsibilities caring for her aunt. As Adele begins to discover that Beth may not be who she says she is, she is sent spiraling down a psychologically unhinged and phantasmagoric path, following in the footsteps of her unstable aunt.”

I would have loved to see Daylight's End and The Eyes of My Mother as well, but unfortunately the presentation times weren't suitable for me.

Viy is an interesting one. 1967, weird but fun. It features, among other things, a witch flying around on her coffin like a hoverboard.

If you're up for Czech stuff as well, The Cremator and Valerie and Her Week of Wonders are both brilliant.

Poster caught my attention, trailer kept it. Will definitely be checking this out when it's available.

I wasn't aware that they were making another SAW, and that its due out in October

...What? Really??? Saw 1 was fantastic and the story of the other 6 or 7 was fine (not good, but fine). However, the book is closed. I'm not ready for another annual installment of garbage story torture porn (I don't mind the torture porn, but this isn't the way to do it).

It's titled Saw: Legacy and is due for release in late October. It seems to be the only major horror release that month.

Apparently the trailer dropped in December, but I heard absolutely nothing about it.

The showing is on 21.4. I'll be posting my thoughts about it afterwards. I'm still pondering, whether I should go to see Raw or not. It's highly praised, but it doesn't seem like my kind of movie.

On a side note, The Evil Dead (1981) was just added to the local Netflix selection, and it's both amusing and annoying that it's classified as a comedy. Gotta laugh at the recommendations and "flesh-eating zombies" as well.

So are the Wishmaster movies worth a viewing?

I've somehow managed to not see any of them. Andrew Divoff, Robert Englund and Tony Todd being in the first one have me curious, but the imdb ratings... woof. Not that I put much faith in those ratings, but they are pretty bad.

Generally, I'm not too hard to please. Give me some cool practical effects, foam latex monsters and some enjoyable actors and I'm usually pretty happy and once I start a series I'm going to finish it, so am I just throwing away time watching all 4?

Saw those years ago. First one wasn't bad. Second one...I think...had the go fuck yourself part that was both hilarious and revolting at the same time. Their all kinda shit though...

A 5.7 for a horror movie on imdb is pretty good.

Been going through some J-Horror recently and watched Noroi, Exte and Marebito. I was surprised by how much I liked Noroi, it was really good. Exte was also quite fun in goofy way (murderous hair extensions and some weird tonal shifts). Marebito had it's moments but left less of an impression.

Going to try to see Suicide Circle and Premonition next.

Anyone have any other recommendations? I think I have seen most of the obvious stuff

Saw one based on the urban legend of the slit mouthed woman the other day. I think it was called Carved

Oddly enough, that still still hasn't persuaded me away from them.

A 5.7 for a horror movie on imdb is pretty good.

The 3rd movie has a 3.5. 4.0 for Wishmaster 4, which I guess is actually kinda decent for the 4th movie in a horror sequel. At least it's an improvement over 3.

Honestly I'm not really trying to say avoid them. Number one had some original ideas. The go fuck yourself part in whichever sequel was worth it and a scene I remember to this day. The rest were just trash...well trashier than the others. Like late Hellraiser sequels shitty lol. That said if you score the collection for like ten bucks or less it's worthwhile. I mean it's jinn that fucks up people's wishes...how good could that be?

I watched Blood Diner on Shudder last night and it's every bit as fucking whacked out as Blood Feast. Loved it!

Heh, yeah, honestly I don't even know why I asked - I'd probably watch them no matter what opinions I get because I'm weird like that. I did manage to get though all the Hellraiser sequels after all.

I guess any opinions would decide how soon I get to them since I always have a ton of stuff in the pile to watch, so that's still to be decided. Thanks for the opinions.

I might have Blood Diner on one of those cheap multi movie DVD sets too. I'll have to double check on that one.

That has Zombeaver level stupidity written all over it...I'm in ;)

I'm usually all about cheesecake flicks like this, but that trailer left me cold. Didn't seem to have the same comedic sensibility as Zombeavers, or even those (awesome) Asylum comedies that pop up on Netflix like Barely Legal, Bikini Spring Break, or that one where those two guys get sucked into a dimension where porn is real.

Also, if you want a Blood Dragon style 80s B movie pastiche done right, and can live without seeing a pair of tits for 90 minutes, I highly recommend Manborg. Sometimes the jokes fall flat, but when they hit, they really hit; and I genuinely loved the sci-fi horror B-movie action.

Also: everyone in here watches From Dusk Til Dawn: The Series, right? If not, prepare to binge. And if for whatever reason you're not interested, or bailed during season 2, for fuck's sake watch season 3. Far better than the Evil Dead series, which I also enjoyed.

I've only seen the original film, aside from the series. Were the cash-in sequels any good?

Kwaidan, House, Jigoku, Onibaba, Cure, Kuroneko, Tetsuo: The Iron Man, Gojira, The Ghost of Yotsuya, Horrors of Malformed Men

A lot of my favorites are on the older side.

Manborg was pretty damn good.

I watched s1 of Dusk. I think I saw a little of s2 and definitely did not realize s3 was out. Added to my list.

Manborg was good, but I'd probably rank it lower compared to Astron-6's other full movies and even some of their better shorts like Cool Guys and Lazer Ghosts 2.

The real star of Manborg is the Bio-Cop short though. That's fantastic. It's kind of strange how the tacked on bonus just to pad the runtime is actually better than the feature.

Got caught up in the hype following the It trailer and bought the book which I've never read, only very early on (70 odd pages) but damn it's gripping. Can't put it down when I get chance to read it.

Also excited to watch The Void at some point this weekend.

justwatch is a garbage site and is slow on providing information.

Maybe the site is great for established releases, but The Void that released today is not on that site.

Watched The Void last night and its not that good.

Best I can say is there are some decent creature effects.
But the acting is appalling and the editing is kinda sloppy.

Pretty much what I would say. And too bad the creatures weren't even shown that much, they were the coolest part. The pacing was also really bad.
