How are you, health wise, GAF?

I'll be 50 in 6mo. I am in decent shape considering the neglect of my physical and mental well-being, but it's been taking a toll very noticeably since the pandemic. Hard to complain about that since it has affected so many people in a variety of ways, but it's really made clear to me how many aspects of my life were just kind of (semi-invisibly) hanging on by a thread. I'm trying to do what I can to right the ship but it can be difficult to just conjure enthusiasm when I feel like my boat is continually taking on water. Something's gotta give.

Usually I feel near immortal but this past week I've been knocked around by the flu. 🤧

Lost 4KG's though, so silver linings and all that.

36 years old, hit the gym 4x a week. Don't drink or smoke regularly (once or twice a year only). However, I do enjoy eating. Current job being in office is an issue and I don't walk as much as I did before - I simply don't have the time. This worries me a lot. I have a persistent belly that frustrates me - a lot.

I also joined gym just over two weeks ago, I do my morning walk, go gym, do cycling, rowing, weights and then freshen up go work and then do a 3 mile walk home, I'm on my feet non stop at work too, I am getting there 😅

It's a tough spot to be in. A shit ton of cardio is the answer. Gotta slug it out for weeks and maybe months depending on the person.

I wasn't satisfied with my morning results so I added an hour to my routine. That's 5 hours now and I'm comfortable with that.

Early 40s, running 5 times a week (5K time is close to 20 minutes) so this way I can more or less get away with eating shit and drinking alcohol, but probably it's not going to last past 45.

One of my heart valves doesn't close properly so I gave to go in 2 years back to the cardiologist to make sure it's not leaking. I get palpitations every now and then from it and I've had an episode where I almost passed out during one. When I kit down, it makes me cough and I feel discomfort in my chest so I am going back to my doctor and telling her wtf this cardiologist told me I had nothing to worry about and to "just live my life as I have been, don't change anything". Yeah this is a year of problems I'm not gonna go home and just live like nothing is wrong when this situation is not normal. Muppet.

The easiest way for me to dump a lot of kilos is by eating less. Just track your calories and try to eat whole grain. I mean, nobody can increase their weight by starving unless they are some kind of extradimensional being who lives on radiation too.

I look great physically but got bone marrow cancer, am blind one eye, handicapped one hand due to a motorbike accident, high blood pressure and high heart rate. HIV is under control. I suspect throat cancer since I can't swallow properly (food you perverts) and choke while I try to eat. Had a great life so don't care what happens next.

In University and sometimes due to life issues, I would get really stressed out and drink 8 or more cups of strong coffee... Until I told myself that it's not worth it to worry about work or friendships or life situations...

So I exercise for an hour every day, avoid social media, and I don't care what people criticize me for, and so far I've been doing much better than many people I've met.

Now I'm happy at work, with minimal worries, and saving money... Doing and buying what I love without guilt.

glp1 drugs is ur solution. You can't outwork bad eating habits

If you can't make time to move (walk), sleep right, and eat right, you got ur priorities wrong

Cardio has diminishing returns because it will make you more hungry, so if you have a ravenous appetite to begin with, it can make the problem even worse

Baseline cardio to increase metabolism + clean eating is the answer

But I feel like most Americans are too far gone at this point because they are so used to eating such big portions of foods they probably shouldn't be eating at all in the first place, that at this point glp1 drugs is the only solution, sadly

I've been diabetic half of my life and it's starting to take its toll. I walk six miles per day on average and try to eat the best I can. Got problems with both eyes, nerve damage in both feet, pins and needles in my right hand. I've got a few other medical conditions. And yet, I am rather happy.

Eat like a pescatarian.

I typically drink tea and eat dark chocolate during after hours.

It's part of the game/cycle there to keep people poor, addicted and quite possibly depressed.

Pretty brave of you sharing that with us. How old are you now?

44 and the heaviest I've ever been. I'm not ok with it and plan on dropping booze and sugar for a few months (I'm flying out of Mexico right now so I've earned it!) till I drop a few.

I'm just out of shape. I'd call myself fat right now but I'm probably not "that" bad.

Regardless, time for a change.

I curbed hard alcoholic and sugar and it helped my ability to deal with everyday normal situations that I wasn't able to deal with before. Getting past 40 is a blessing not a curse, belly and all!

I pay pretty much no attention to my health ever. Eat whatever I want.

I'm a naturally skinny dude, have never been able to gain weight despite eating like a complete slob. Have not had any issues in 38 years outside of occasional colds, flus and what not.

I also have little to no stress which I think is a massive boost in life. My job is easy, no hard work, plenty of time off. I think a lot of it is down to genetics, my parents on both sides are all very healthy and well into old age before they passed.

My wife on the other hand, has had countless health issues. Had a few surgeries, keyhole knee surgery + gallbladder removal, suffers with GERD and a few other gastro issues. Eats and exercises like a gymbro, gets sick all the time. It's pretty uncanny tbh.

Oooof, please tell us it's haunted haha.

haha nope.. I've posted about it before in another thread here, can't remember which.

I can't actually say exactly where, because I'm contracted to be hush hush. What I can say is I was previoulsy stationned at Porton Down in Wiltshire, before being moved to another military site.

It's well paid, low risk. Just has shitty hours and a 1 hour helecopter commute. The most I've had to 'security' was unlocking a jammed door during a fire drill.

I'm 40 by year end, past couple of checks by the doctor indicated that I have high blood pressure. Trying to lose weight, putting in more steps daily and have been playing sports once a week. Hopefully situation will improve.

Weight loss is all about food intake.
Exercise is for toning.

I lost around 20KG's just by reducing what I eat.
Eventually your stomach shrinks and it gets easy, just need protein to help get you there.

Thanks for the tips man. Been trying to cut down on sugars and rice too since its a staple for asian countries.

As of a couple months ago, I am 5 years cancer free after beating a malignant nerve tumour.

Otherwise, can't complain, been in my healthy weight range since 2014, moderately fit, no serious chronic conditions beyond ye olde autism.

My friend also has this. It doesn't have any symptoms, right? he tells me that tons of people that have it dont have a clue they have it until they have a stroke. Wild.

Good, mostly. Rolled my ankle pretty bad yesterday but I also had a check up and id lost 20 pounds and my BP was 117/65 which was great. Doc said id have to monitor my blood pressure in conjunction with the BP medicine I take cause I lost some weight. Its always a good time when the doctor is happy for you

Only became fat, if you count that as a sign haha. Apart from this, I'm doing pretty okay so far. Doctor says its lifestyle and stress probably

In my mid-40s.

5'11, 152 lbs (as of this morning). Lift and do cardio 5 days a week. Eat well. Don't drink, don't smoke, etc...

I feel much younger than I am, which I take as a good sign.

Haven't been to a doctor since I turned 18.

Hey Gafers, make sure you are also taking care of the mental health. When that begins to crumble (depression for example) it can start a chain that affects your physical wellness.

So, you are the security guard in all the movies that gets killed 20 seconds in by the bad guys henchchick? :p

I was doing great til about 45 when it all went downhill. All my old sports/exercise injuries came on in a hurry and now I can't run, can't lift, can barely fuck without pain. Not sure how to beat it other than opiates or maybe some sort of extreme anti-inflammatiory regimen.

On the plus side I was in a job that covers me for this sort of stuff but I'd rather be able to run again instead of get a check.
