How can Microsoft win back your heart for XB1?

When people respond with ditch Kinect, I doubt they were really interested in the first place.

Yeah it's almost like they wanted a focus on actual games and not something entirely useless that also raised the price of the system and hurt the overall specs of the system.

Pretty much this.

I see too many people saying NeoGAF is Sonyland. And I ask them why? And they say its because we are just a bunch of Sony fanboys and want to see MS tank.

The reality is that if Sony had fucked up with DRM, tried launching a 500 dollar console, tried forcing a 100 dollar peripheral, and had overly arrogant PR, then the climate on this board would be completely different.

I think its fair to say gamers who have longer gaming history tend to bias toward Japanese companies. And GAF has alot of OG gamers. I don't see any problem with it.

This can't be true at all. My own SonyPony is called Gerrald.

Games sell systems.

If they have good exclusives that actually interest me, if Kinect is shown to be an improvement over what it was(and will actually work in my living situation, something the original wouldn't which is why I never bothered), and is shown to actually IMPROVE games instead of being a gimmick that doesn't add to anything, then I'll happily buy one.

In other words, things aren't looking likely at the moment, even after the 360 was the first "next-gen" console I bought last time.

Reality is no one should ever want any console to fail, as competition makes things better for everyone.

You're wrong. They have games I might want to play that have nothing to do with Kinect. I don't like being charged an extra $100 for something I don't want. Seems like a lot of people feel the same way,

All I want is some sort of clear, coherent message from Microsoft regarding the console. I want THEM to figure out what the hell they want to focus on before I will get one.

I'm on my forth or fifth and I'd still take the 360 over the PS3 any day of the week. I've never had to pay for a replacement or anything though.

I had to finally buy an S to get out of the endless refurb cycle. There was nothing better than getting super into a game, having your console die, then having to wait 30 days to proceed. Talk about a momentum killer.

I'd like to think that Microsoft is a company that had learned from past mistakes, but the way that they're bumbling this console launch is pretty telling. They haven't.

Well it seems like a lot about this launch are new mistakes, lol. I had a 360 die on Christmas Eve one year. Talk about heartbreak. I also upgraded to the slim when it came out and have had no problem since.

There is one exclusive, and ONLY one (barring any unforeseen new IPs) that would make me jump on the Xbone train. Banjo-Threeie.

I would seriously forego all other reservations and criticisms I have towards the system and buy it in a glorious blaze of #YOLOmancing the very day that game hits shelves.

I'm not holding my breath for it, but it's nice to dream, at least :(

Drop the waggle camera/price and show me some first party games that interest me. A Halo game and a Gears game every 2-3 years isn't going to cut it.

Put out a model without kinect.

Get a bunch of exclusives just are must plays for me.

Win back my heart? Okay, here's the list.

1. A good build - people have said it. Them 360s were disposable.
2. Commitment to the whole cycle - 1st party games have been few and far between for years.
3. Drop Kinect - I don't want it. If they prove it works well it's something I would tolerate.
4. Ownership Rights - When is this going to rear it's ugly head again?
5. Prove that you can catch up - Microsoft was swimming in one direction for years and now they have to make big changes quickly in time for launch.

It's a tall order! They may be able to do it but I doubt I will be convinced by launch. That's why it's wait and see for me. If I get one it may be a year from now when I'm jonsing for a new toy. But at launch? Fuck that.

Physical disc copies. I was looking forward to buying games like TitanFall and others this way, installing the game to the hdd, and then never worrying about a disc ever again. That seemed awesome to me, but nah, you guys had to screw that all up for reasons I still fail to understand. Its easy to complain about something before you have the chance to try it and see if it works; before you get to see the potential something like that could have with how you buy and play games. Seriously, you guys use GAF, you have to be seeing these new game sales as often as I do.

I wonder. If MS released a "Modular" version of their system. Not one that had Kinect missing, but rather one that had a slot for a drive. This drive would connect to the Xbox One via a proprietary slot (to keep things uniform.). If you want to play games with disc, you purchase the unit PLUS the disc drive. Both versions would have the HDMI pass through, both would Kinects, and both would be able to play digital games. The positives would be that the digital ecosystem would still be viable and you could save money buying the disc-less version. Sure, you wouldn't have "Blu-ray" but chances are "all digital" would have other means of watching Hi-Def content.
My main concern with this idea though is how many companies would simply choose to omit making discs altogether. The disc version ensures (as best as it can) that I own my content (again, as best as I can.) -Adam

They won mine back when they reversed their ridiculous policies. It wasn't a hard fight, since I generally buy all consoles/handhelds (and PC!) anyway, but their original ideas were enough to convince me that I didn't need another Xbox. Luckily, they changed their minds. They listened (even if it was only to pre order numbers), and I forgave. Now if only they would stop all this FUD and mud slinging...

I couldn't have said it better myself! Everything about their launch of the xbone appears to be rushed and that's scary.I wouldn't want to be one of the guinea pigs testing these things out at launch.

I'd rather cut my own head off than buy their new console. /Mikami, but minus the backpedaling
And that was before they decided to shut down GFWL and make a bunch of my games useless. Now I'm really pissed.

Nothing. They risked a lot of negative publicity by announcing their anti-consumer DRM plans and I'll assume that's their plan going forward until they can offer definitive proof the system could never be sullied with DRM at any point.

Launch bundle with Titanfall, Dead Rising 3 and Forza 5.
You can drop the Kinect too and add a second controller.

So, yeah I may buy one when there's more games I want. 2014.... like the PS4.

Yeah it's almost like they wanted a focus on actual games and not something entirely useless that also raised the price of the system and hurt the overall specs of the system.

Useless except for being a universal remote, allowing snapped video chat in games, automatically signing you in and applying your custom configurations, allowing voice commands to strip away pause-menu admin and allowing motion capture on Project Spark.

I have no interest in motion controlled games, but that is only one part of what Kinect 2 does.

I agree with the previous poster. People saying "drop Kinect", or at least a sizeable chunk of them, would never buy an X1 no matter what.

Aside from early adopters, very few people buy a console for the technology on its own. One must-have experience is generally all it takes to win converts, and at the moment I suspect most of us are merely gambling that the experiences are coming. In the meantime, I'm biding my time with cross-gen titles and teaser next-gen offerings.

Like many, my prediction is that the must-have experience won't be tied to Kinect. If it is, my interest might well change.
