How could something as cool as Stargate come from Emmerich and Devlin?

I mean these are the people who gave us Godzilla a few years later with ID4 in the middle of it.

Yet Stargate makes you forget it was made by the same people who would go on to do movies that, in comparison, were crap (although ID4 is a fun summer popcorn movie).

Plus, it's soundtrack is so good it's used in just about every fucking action movie trailer ever made now.

And it spawned Stargate SG-1 and Atlantis.

I really enjoyed the movie.... unfortunately there's some people who hate on the movie and like the show.

Last year i went on a stargate binge for ~5 days... every waking moment was STARGATE SG1! I watched every episode from Season 1 to Season 7

God... you have no idea how weird it is outside having a cigarette and hearing the stargate wormhole opening out of nowhere. Gah. never again!

I remember seeing it in theatres and not being able to figure out if Ra was a female or shemale...

HAHA It's the Crying Game.

Funny bit of trivia is one of Ra's lines in his language had to be redubbed because when he was saying it to Daniel it sounded like "Do you want to do me?"

I love the movie and am sort of indifferent with the series. The problem I always had with the series (aside from the cast change) was that the movie firmly said "THE END"

I watch the series whenever its on SciFi (SG1 Monday is great), but I haven't finally decided to start buying the seasons on DVD. Sure, they are only $50 and you can get 1-7 on Amazon for $350, but I still haven't decided to take the plunge yet.

I really like Atlantis though if only because it's more detached from the movie than SG-1 is.

They didn't invent "Stargate". It was a New Age type non-fiction book...

Actually Emmerich started developing the movie in 1979 in film school. An Egyptologist claimed to have pitched Emmerich and Devlin the movie in 1984 and sued them after it was released and they settled out of court.

I like both the movie and the series, but one thing I dislike about the series is how they killed about
every secondary character that was in the movie. If you were a member of the original Stargate team, you shouldn't go near the gate again. It's more dangerous than wearing a red shirt in the original Star Trek.

:lol yea and in the series Kawalsky was all like "hell yea!" when they offered him a Stargate team.

Stargate was good BUT...

Watch almost any scene that takes place indoors. The lighting is god-awful. The scene of Kurt Russel sitting on the bed looking at his sons photo while the 2 dress uniform military soldiers come to get him looks straight out of a 70s episode of the Wonderful World of Disney.

The movie just hasn't aged well visually at all.
