How did FFXIII Steam do? Could FFX HD be next?

For a game that has spent so many years in development and cost Square millions upon millions of dollars, you would think a PC release would be guaranteed to recoup the investment.

Actually conventional Japanese wisdom about PC throughout the first decade of the 21st century is it reduces revenue due to piracy.

Porting these games to PC is cheap and doesn't take many resources. Plus they know that there's a good enough audience there to support such ports.

If they don't think Xbox is worth it, it's not going to be on PC.

You guys are vastly understating the time and personnel needed to port games (especially for SE, HD development is already hard for them to begin with) and overstating the amount of revenue they get from a Steam release. If that was big money in any way comparable to console revenue, then all of their console games would release on PC. But they don't. That's why you only get old games that already had a PC version sitting in the office.

You just further justified his claim then since most of these games have some sort of PC build lying around in the office. And it's not like they really put effort, time, and money and when making those builds able to run on Steam

nothing concrete but i've heard of an honor deal. Honor and your word is a big thing in Japan. I believe the games will remain exclusive to sony platforms.
Please be trolling.....it's 2015, what in the world would SE know about "honor?" I feel like whenever people say this it means that they have never been to Japan and/or know very little about business.

You mean those FF games which already had PC versions? I'm sure those were really hard to put up on Steam...
Were you not paying attention to the last few months?

To be honest, I think that after Lightning Returns, Square wont care anymore.
That was a good opportunity as their ported the trilogy for their streaming service... but now, I think that LR sales will be a final nail on the coffin. FFXIII sold well but FFXIII-2 sold less. And its likely that XIII-3 will sell even less. Bad port job and the less liked titles in the series wont help sales.

So I wouldnt have any hope for FFX HD neither for Type-O HD or FFXV.

Just wondering if anyone knows whether FFXIII on Steam has proven worthwhile for SE? If it has, would FFX HD be the next logical choice, since the 'HDification' has already been done?

The only next HD title I want from Square is FXII yes if nothing else we need 12 in HD it makes more sense than everything else they've done lately.

Well we've now had a few late ports that became profitable very fast, no one is talking about 'console revenue' because that's not what is needed to make them worthwhile. Also ports can be outsourced.

Nonsense.

If there is money to be made, SE will port the everlasting shit out of those games.

The thing is, they wouldn't "just" port those games to PC to get some Steam money, SquareEnix is trying to get 2 different streaming software initatives off the ground. (Dive In and Shinra Technology).
They need PC ports of their games to get them on their own service.

Okay guys 3 pages = enough responses to a joke post.

Anyway, anybody who seriously suggested a Steam port of FF XIII trilogy a year ago would have been laughed out of the room. Yet here we are with several Final Fantasy titles on Steam.

I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to see X or even XII show up on Steam eventually.

This thread has some great posts you guys.

I imagine that yes, we will get more. Whether that's FFX or something else, we'll see.
After they plop out the third part of the goddess trilogy I'd guess that Final Fantasy Type-0 HD is next.

Goodness, I hope so! I didn't like Final Fantasy games on the PlayStation 2 as much as Tales games. But I'm also a bigger fan of Tales. I love Tales of Symphonia and Tales of the Abyss.

But it was still fun and a pretty game. I think I would have liked it more, if there were more characters I really liked. But Rikku was fun. And so was Yuna in being a nice person. And Tidus wasn't too bad, either.

I haven't bought the HD Remaster of Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy X-2, yet. But I definitely will if they put it on Steam!

I'm sure XIII did really well but because SE fucked it up, XIII-2 didn't do nearly as well. If they would put more effort into these games it would help their sales. People on PC tend to boycott stuff if it's not up to snuff.

I still think that X and X-2 are pretty likely to appear on Steam. XV will likely be another.
