How Do I Report Stolen Cable?

Status
Not open for further replies.
I just moved into some apartments and some cocksucker stole my internet and cable tv. How do I report them? I'd like to get them arrested if possible.

I'd assume you would call the cops or cable company. If you're not looking to be as direct I'm sure calling the cable company out to check your equipment would work.

If you're sure, just call the cable company.

Yeah I went and opened the cable box. My cables are disconnected and the guys apartment is hooked up to them instead.

:lol :lol :lol

What the...? Is their a special police division that you can call on that deals specifically with idiot theives? Who does something like that? I have no idea how to steal cable but I can come up with a list ways not to do it and that would be number one.

that seems... too retarded to be intentional. Any chance the guy ordered cable and the lazy ass cable guy opened it up and said 'eh, I'll just use these cables. Easier.'?

seems just as plausible to me.

I remember my sister's friend had a TV cable coming from his friend's apartment downstairs running up the stairs outside to his apartment :lol Its nice to share.

Okay, I called the cable company. They basically said fuck off. I just called the cops and now an officer is on the way out.

I've got Adelphia, and on their website they plainly say to call them if you suspect cable theft.

No idea why such a moron would tell you something like that. The cable company doesn't deserve business if they don't respond to cable theft.

Hope Everything Gets Sorted Out

Dammit. Son of a bitch! The cable's out

well, stealing cable usually means stealing the signal through a slightly more complex means than just physically switching the cables around. the guy's retarded, but I'm guessing the cops would just talk to him.

regardless, I would really like to be proven wrong. with pictures.

I think somebody is stealing my Cable Internet. Not really stealing, I guess, but the douche is tapping into my wireless network.

I was listening to some music with iTunes the other day and this "Shared Music User" thing pops up. Some guy from the apartment down the hall is logged onto my wireless network or something and the name pops up "MCEdgar's LimeWire Tunes". So I check out to see what he's got and it's all garbage. Crap like 50 Cent and Ja Rule - this douche even had every freaking Toni Braxton song ever made. I've never seen so much Toni Braxton in my life.

Just watch this douche get busted for sharing music on LimeWire and the RIAA come after me for it.

Is there any way I can stop this guy from stealing my internet connection?

Put a WEP/WPA password on your connection, or change your SSID and stop broadcasting it.

You can take him to court for stealing your bandwidth. I saw an article on just that a few months ago. You can also set up a password for your wireless connection. But you won't catch him, only stop him.

I went through almost the exact same thing. I live on the second floor of an apartment complex and wasn't able to get cable because the guy below me was stealing it. He'd rearranged the wires, apparently, and the cable company guys told me they'd need access to his apartment to get the problem fixed.

Now, the cable guys can't just walk in to someone's apartment, and the apartment complex manager was too busy eating donuts to care. (In her defense, she can't just enter someone's apartment without notice.) So I was stuck.

Thankfully, the jerk moved out and I escorted the cable guys into his apartment while it was being refurbished. Had he not moved, I would have gone to great lengths to rat him out. I'm all for minding my own business, but when somebody's outright thievery prevents me from receiving a service that I need, that's when action must be taken.

Why handle it like such a pussy?

Knock on the fuckers door and threaten him.

Especially if you have a large dog.

Or call the police, why end it with the landlord/cable company? I find it MIND boggling that the cable company doesn't give a shit.

Probably not the company themselves, perhaps it was just the guy on the phone. I guess it doesn't air that much (or at all) here in NY, but when I'm in FL it's nearly impossible to go a day without seeing a commercial asking you to report cable theft. Still, they get paid either way heh.

As a matter a fact, there's an idea cancel the cable... :lol

As a former cable guy, I'm not shocked that they don't care if someone's stealing your cable, audits are the last thing to do on your list (if doing them at all), and they're frequently shuffled to other days. The fact that you can freely get into the cable box says enough, because it's ridiculously easy to steal cable at any type of complex if you have access to the box.

You might want to hold off on throwing down on the guy though...apartments have a high rate of disconnects from people moving in and out, and some idiot technician may have accidentally unhooked your cable instead of someone else's.

Then again, I don't know the exact situation, so this guy may be a complete cock.

Honestly... they think they can do that and the person who is actually PAYING for that cable won't find out? :lol

After all that happened in New Orleans I would borrow the cable too, and keep the Weather Channel on 24/7... how can you blame those poor scared people?

So uhh did you get your cable back or what?
My brother and I used to share our cable with the neighbors and split the cost.
Sharing is caring.

yeah, the cable guy came out and fixed it today

Did they do anything to the guy downstairs? at least a fine or something

as expected the cable guy didn't do shit to the person down stairs, the cop said if it happens again let him know, but he can't do anything either unless it happens multiple times

Nope.

The problem was, I was trying to get cable installed. And the guy had rearranged the wires going from the cable box to his apartment on the first floor to mine on the second. The cable guys said he was likely stealing cable, and that there was no way I was going to be able to have the service properly set up unless they got in to his apartment to fix the wiring.

The apartment manager didn't want to bother helping me. The cable company wasn't keen on providing an alternate solution, even considering the fact that the guy above me has working cable ... In fact, I was met with indifference all around.

Finally, the guy below me moved out. My cable was installed, and all is well for now. But if the guy didn't move, I'd have been SOL.

And for my trouble, the cable company generously included me in a discount program I should have been signed up for in the first place. God bless their hearts.

Well Mc Safety, you certainly have a fitting name. I'm not saying you're a pussy ... though I do seem to be thinking it loudly.
