How do you Comfort a Girl that's just been Dumped?

Well, maybe not "dumped".
Just a girl who has just ended a relationship with someone and is clearly upset.

I've had to do this several times before and I never know exactly what to do.
You want to comfort her and everything, but there's certain things you can't say. You don't want to make her cry. You don't want to make it look like you're coming on to her. You can't really pretend nothing's happened and act normally. Should you ask about the details? About what happened? Should you just buy her some hagen daz ice cream? =P

I don't know. I'm sure a lot of other guys have had to do this for their female friends. I'm curious if anyone knows a right way to do this.

(And before anyone says it, let just get it out of the way: "FHUTA!!1! FHUTA!!1! FHUTA!!1! FHUTA!!1! FHUTA!!1! FHUTA!!1! FHUTA!!1! FHUTA!!1! FHUTA!!1! FHUTA!!1! FHUTA!!1! FHUTA!!1! FHUTA!!1! Ahem.

Tell her, that just around the corner, on the 19th, is Talk Like a Pirate Day. No one can get depressed when the most glorious Holiday to ever exist is almost here!

my best advice is to stay the hell away from her. get another girl friend and let her comfort her instead of you. or else, she will fall for you. one bangbang and boom, friendship done. you don't want that to happen and neither did she.

I think the question that needs to be asked is exactly how close to her are you? If she is one of your best friends you can get into the details of the whole thing and not feel like you are intruding. Plus opening up to a friend makes everyone feel better.

Haha.
Nah, I'm not asking this for a specific person. I've had to do it a few times in the past.
And while I'm sure I helped my friends by just "being there", it always feels awkward (for me at least).

Next time it happens, I'll just tell her about this forum. That should cheer her up or sicken her - either way, it'd get her mind off things right?

The way a girl gets over her last boyfriend is by finding a new one. Some say she is on the rebound and vunerable and question the ethics of a guy going after her. I say the guy is doing a good job, he is like a therapist -- who has sex with his patients.

Just hang out with her, your presence is all that is needed.

Show her the big picture; Relationships in general serve as nothing but ego fuel. She didn't really love the guy anymore then she loves her freinds or her family. In fact the entire notion of singular love is a purely egoic mode of thought. The truth is there are 100s of beings out there that she can and will love equally.

Also; buy her ice cream.

you fuck her. that's what she wants.

from a conversation last night between me and a friend:

girl (3:59:55 AM): what questions do you want me to ask
girl (4:00:08 AM): do you still have any of my drinks left in your fridge?
InconspicuousLie (4:00:15 AM): i dont think so..
girl (4:00:39 AM): oh well it doesnt matter...i dont drink anymore anyway
InconspicuousLie (4:00:45 AM): fucked up!
InconspicuousLie (4:00:51 AM): how are we ever gonna do it??
girl (4:01:09 AM): the night after me and daniel break up for good
girl (4:01:19 AM): ill come to you for support and rebound sex
girl (4:01:27 AM): and we'll do it sober, for kicks
girl (4:01:39 AM): because you always say im a "sober fuck"
InconspicuousLie (4:01:45 AM): hah!
girl (4:01:48 AM): whatever that means
InconspicuousLie (4:01:58 AM): means youre worthy of enough of having sex with sober!

just do it, dude. :lol

Don't ask any questions about it. Just be there. You know when you go through tough breakups, and you choose to be alone, but at the same time, you clearly know that you'd feel better when someone's around? It's probably the same thing with her. She doesn't want someone to be intrusive, she just needs someone there so that she doesn't feel alone.

Don't try to make her laugh, don't try to make her specifically forget, don't try to make her remember. If she wants to talk about it, she'll do it. Best thing is to simply be there. Just in case she needs anything. Be light, be funny. And most importantly, never stop talking. About anything and everything, because silence will only make her think about the breakup again. Put the TV on, that always helps. 30 minutes into random conversations, she'll feel better, guaranteed.
