How do you position your XSX/S or PS5, horizontal or vertical?

for some reason I had to think of

I have not seen one in person, but PS5 horizontal looks just weird and even more wobbly than erect. I assume I will do vertical this time, unless the hopefully soon slim looks different.

That got me laughing hard , I love that movie!

Yeah well, it's so fucking huge it's actually the main attraction when you enter my home.

If they go for a slim version the thing might just become one meter long

Vertical, but only because it sits nicely behind my TV and stays out of site, so when I have people over I don't look like a huge fucking nerd

You should see the 3 displays in a row when you walk into my place, the CRT TV crammed in between the HDTV stand and computer desk with a gaming monitor on it. One step in the door and already huge fucking nerd confirmed lol.

My XSX is vertical on my PC desk. I mostly use it on my gaming monitor but switch the HDMI cord for TV sessions. If I got a PS5 it would be permanently on the TV and probably the only console that even I would need to stash behind it. It wouldn't even fit in my TV stand if I wanted it to and it has a much more glaring, imposing presence than XSX when put vertical out in the open.

The left side of my CRT has my main TV's right speaker near it, and its right side is near the XSX on my desk, at the same height. This was by total accident but the speaker and XSX are almost the same dimensions and just black rectangles so it created some pleasing symmetry when I squeezed the CRT between them into the setup -almost like it's the L/R channels for the CRT even though they have nothing to do with it. Good luck finding synergy like that with a PS5 that has to scream at everyone what a fucking new playstation it is lol.

Does the PS5 even work well, horizontally..?

I have my XSX vertically - hidden behind the TV for a clean-ish look.
I have my PS5 horizontal from the first day i bought it now 13 months ago and it works like a clockwork. No problems, and when i dont game i have a sheet of transparent plastic over it.
No trace of dust is on it and i clean the outside once a month, and the dust collectors once every six month, and the fan onside once a year.
My baby is in mint condition, i love the looks of my spaceship👍

If you place your XSX horizontally, every friend coming over to your house will try to put it in vertical position thinking it's been knocked over. True story.

In regards to PS5, there's a rumor that placing it vertically might eventually cause the liquid metal slip down due to gravity, leaving the upper part of the CPU uncovered, thus leading to overheating and other issues.

I know most would think "Sony space engineers should know better than that when designing the console", but honestly I wouldn't take the chance. When my PS4 was positioned vertically with the official stand, it made a jet engine noise within minutes of being on because the lateral intake was being obstructed in that position (even with the stand), and that was also designed by Sony geniuses. The minute I put it horizontally the console got super quiet again.

The PS5 also expels air where the base is attached in vertical position; placing it horizontally would leave that part completely uncovered, with more room to breathe. I would also argue it would prevent much more dust getting inside the console, as the massive vents won't be right on the surface.

Besides, vertical consoles are too freudian.

I typically position consoles horizontally because they tend to be more stable that way. More surface area contact. Sony somehow made a console that's completely unstable when horizontal and is even less stable when using the stand. I still have it horizontal but I had to buy an actually useful stand to do it.

Vertical.

The SX is designed to stand like that and it occupies less space on a table top when placed like it.

Everyone in this thread who has their consoles on the floor due to their size.

Please buy yourself a laptop/monitor shelf/stand. Just a simple rectangle with four legs is fine. You want to have your device up off the floor as the most dust settles on the lowest surface. By having the console slightly elevated you can prevent a lot of it from being sucked in.

I tired to put my ps5 vertical, but it's too tall for my setup.

I'll have to wait until I get a Roman pillar to properly display it.

I voted horizontal because I have 2 consoles horizontal and 1 vertical.

XBSX - horizontal
PS5 1 - horizontal
PS5 2 - vertical behind TV

Anyone who doesn't want the PS5 slides from the stupidly designed stand and fall down on the floor after having slightly touched it.
The risk of doing that is still way lower than touching a vertical placed console imo.

I more than slightly touched mine and it never slided off, so my point still stand (pun intended)

Also having a light dust before you switch it on is a good habit to have.

My big tv (82") requires a big stand with enough room to put everything Vertical. I still have about 4 inches of headspace above the PS5 and the Series X is more than comfy next to it.
You can feel the heat pouring out of the shelf when either is on, Silent but hot.

When I first got the PS5, I kept it vertical. I still prefer how it looks that way. It's now horizontal because my new tv required me to rearrange that area and it doesn't fit in the old spot. Horizontal is growing on me.
