How does pre-ordering a game at ebworld.com with in store pick up work?

StoOgE

First tragedy, then farce.
see thread title.. I pre-ordered Psychonauts so I could get the trading cards (and the 10 dollar gift card, which I think is online only) to be picked up in store (so I didnt have to wait for it to ship).. assuming it meant that it would add the record of pre-order into that stores system and I would simply pick it up on Tuesday.

Now, its starting to sound like Im going to have to wait while a special copy is sent to the store just for me. Someone here must work at EB, how does this shit work? I mean, if I have to, I can buy a new copy tommorow (or Wed. whenever they get it) and eat the 5 dollar service charge, because I will have this game on launch day.

This is how it works. I decided to give it a test to see how reliable it is:

1) I pre-order a game from EBgames.com and choose in-store pickup, and choose my store. Place the order.

2) Release day. I take the printed receipt from the email I was sent for the preorder to the store. They have no idea wtf i'm talking about, nor do they have a record of the game coming in or my order. Disgusted, I simply purchase one of the in-stock copies (it was Capcom Fighting Evolution, so i'm probably the only person in a 100 mile radius that wanted it)

3) Go home and make a mental note never to use ebgame's in-store pickup again.

yeah, but that doesnt answer my question. Im supposed to get a second e-mail days before the product ships, and today is the last day before the product is going to ship to stores, and no e-mail. Thus, the thread.

Got it. Try this?

This is Exactly how it works. Substitute Jade Empire instead, and the fact they thought the print out meant I had paid for a copy, which I hadn't.

shit, if I can walk out with a free game, that would rock.

wow i love in-store pick-up... done it 5-6 times already.

a) select instore pickup

b) walk in the store on release day on lunch break

c) hi im -insert name- i did your little in-store pickup deal

d) purchase game

e) masturbate furiously over instruction booklet until i can go home and play it

Basically if you are ordering any kind of special offer, they fuck you in the ass.

They bait you with a miniature or tshirt, but you don't actually get what they promise you. The local store is not obligated to give you anything but the game. There is supposedly small print on some obscure page that mentions this.

In other words. If some dipshit behind the counter wants your trading cards. They are his.

I love the in-store pick-up; hopefully when EB and GS merge, they'll keep it as an option. It's a nice way to be able to pick up new games from a B&M store, confident that they'll be there, without having to put money down or pay shipping costs to order online. I've used it at three different EB stores and had no problems.

yeah, games not in today.. I doubt Im getting the playing cards, some fucker at gamestop still has my sonic 10th aniversery pack.
