How Fast Is A GTX 1070 Laptop? And What About 4K G-Sync Gaming? [Sponsored Content]

Source (YouTube)

In this video, sponsored by HP Omen, Rich checks out the mobile version of the GTX 1070. Is it as powerful as the desktop GTX 1070? Can you overclock it? Combined with a G-Sync screen, how good is the 4K gameplay experience?

Digital Foundry take a look at the HP Omen equipped with a GTX 1070 in this sponsored piece. Richard compares the mobile GTX 1070 to it's desktop counterpart and also takes a shot at overclocking and 4K Gaming.

The laptop features a i7 7700HQ CPU, a mobile GTX 1070 and a 4K G-Sync display.

This kind of GPU power is really impressive in such a small form factor!

EDIT: Whoops, I forgot to put Digital Foundry in the thread title.

I've got an Asus laptop with a 1070 and a slower CPU (i7-6820hk) but it's limited to 1080p/75hz gsync. Tekken runs fantastic and the laptop factor is nice if I ever need a setup for a tournament or something. I wish more fighters were on PC.

1070 will struggle under 4K in a lot of scenarios.

Moreover, Windows10 still struggles w/ high-DPI displays more often than not that I'd actively avoid a 4K display on them.

Same limit on the HP Omen. Not only that, some games refuse to run at full screen on that monitor or are choppy on full screen. Have to connect it to an external TV to solve the issue.

Tekken runs fine at max on a mobile 1060 too. Only issue is with the game Snake Pass. On some stages it fails to reach 60 fps on Very High Quality setting. Hovers around 53-54 fps. Surely no issue for a 1070. Bad game optimization probably.

For a second I thought this was Sponsored Content on NeoGAF as a new thing.

My HP Omen, after undervolting the CPU and overclocking, I got it massively ahead of the avg. Desktop 1070 benches

But DF... No... The I/O is fucking trash, like come on. I have a powered USB Hub for it to be barely useful.

Also, I am happy I got one with a 1080p screen.

So yeah, DF are not LTT... They suck when it comes to honest in non-sponsored content. Rich cannot think he I/O is serviceable, and the lack of easy access to the storage (for upgrades) is absolutely one of the worst points of this laptop... AND the keyboard back light is horrific.

I have the Asus version as well. 1080p screen with 60 fps.

Mostly have been playing Overwatch on it but I'll dabble into some more other stuff.

Besides I also have a 4k TV to hook it up to. Which I did for some Portal 2 fun.
