How in the hell did the three worst actors in the Harry Potter films get lead roles?

He put in random scenes like the Death Eaters starting shit at the Weasley home for absolutely no reason and Harry/Hermione dancing. He butchered scenes that were great in the book (EVERYTHING in the Department of Mysteries, events surrounding Dumbledore's death, Ron/Hermione kiss, "NOT MY DAUGHTER YOU BITCH!", Voldemort's death etc.)

The books are just okay themselves but the movies, especially the later ones, could have been a LOT better.

OMG, this entire scene pissed me off.

Agreed with the post. I feel like near the end of the series, it started to prioritize adding stuff in to make it more entertaining rather than keeping true to the books.

In the first 4 movies you get a better sense of the magic in the HP world. Different spells are spoken, and the spells emit from the wands in different manners.

In the Yates films people just point their wands randomly and bright lights spark. Yes, I've read HP and know about unspoken spells and such, but Yates simply didn't have the magic touch.

It's like he filmed whatever was in the script and didn't think about adding anything visually. His films lack detail.

Yeah as shakey as Rowling's magical continuity is, it was still lightyears better than Yates' handling. The fact that Voldemort could fly without a broom was a big deal in the books and showed just how powerful he was compared to a normal wizard. By making Death Eaters fly as well and not really allowing any of the good guys to do it cheapens Voldemort's power but also demonstrates that the dark path is way more powerful.

Why couldn't the magic have been depicted exactly as Rowling described? It's not like her description of magical battles lacked enough detail to be able to do it more like she described.

I wonder the same. Rowling's descriptions of magical abilities and battles were actually quite vivid and clear for me. I always felt like I knew what was going on and how everything looked in action.

The screenwriters probably deserve equal admonishing, but it's up to the director to recognize how the film needs to look and feel. Yates' movies were sterile and vanillla through and through.

Ehh, they were serviceable. Ginny, though...

I am now fucking dead. Thank you, PhoncibleBone.

The worst part of OOTP was they turned the awesome Dumbledore/Voldemort fight into a fucking red/blue laser battle. Not to mention how they butchered the general darkness of the novel and Sirius's death. He died laughing dammit.

OOTP was the darkest novel and my favorite in the series but they messed up everything so badly I didn't bother watching the rest of the movies.
