I think 10 years. I mean, the new generation has barely begun and we are already two years in. I would be happy if it lasts 10 years because I'm tired of switching new hardware every 5 years, and games today looks so good and now have zero load times and good performance, I mean what more do you ask for? Let's focus on the games for once and not hardware.

I think 10 years due to all the delays setting this gen so far back. The price of the PS5 has even gone up 2 years in which I don't think has ever happened before and that despite it releasing at one of the highest price points. It looks like the hardware to make a big step up at a reasonable price won't be there for a long time to come yet so it might be a longer gen.

Too long but because hardware is crazy expensive these days. The consoles are going to be laughably underpowered for a long time I think. Strap in!

I'd say 10 years based on the poll options. We are still in cross gen territory. I could potentially see a PS6 in 2028. I also think Microsoft is more "in" on iterative models of consoles. I could see an iterative/mid-gen refresh of the Series X in 2024/2025 but a true "next gen" console from Microsoft isn't like to hit until 2028 or later in my opinion.

Once these consoles (primarily the PS5) overtake previous gen consoles and cross gen ends developers and consumers alike are going to want to have their current gen systems give them the latest and greatest for a few years.

Ten years.

Ps4 is still a huge part of PlayStation and looking at how this gen has barely started with actual next gen experiences, its going to be the longest one for sure

7 for sure.

I feel current gen has barely left the starting blocks. Two years in and I still feel like we're right in the middle of cross-gen season.

I voted 7 because I think 8 years is the sweet spot. However, given the current state of the industry and recent trends, I wouldn't be surprised to see a 10+ year generation.

A long cross gen period is now the norm so there's no rush for new consoles when it takes years to build up a new profitable install base. Additionally, a more aggressive mid gen refresh would do wonders for longevity as long as 60fps is the norm, and it should be with the Series S as the base.

i chose 10 years , just because its been 2 years and we barely have any Ps5 games only , ill probably stick with my Pc and ps5 , unless Nintendo comes out with something awsome

Answer to bonus question: I have a PS5 and a PC so there is no treason to buy an Xbox Series X, since there are no console exclusives.

Next console from Nintendo? Not impossible, since that machine should be able to at least pull off 1080p which is my bare minimum for playing on TV (no interest in handhelds). But unlikely.

I expect new consoles in 2027 or 2028 but these consoles will be supported for a few years after that, as usual.

I have already owned both of them, but I've sold PS5. Planning on buying it again in two years.

With the recent string of Events happening anyway - games won't really matter at that point - instead there's gonna be a civil war going on, After what the White-Jews-Blacks-Euros-Gooks-Yayois have all been building up to after what's been happening in this Post-Y2K world we live in now, if anyone is gonna survive anyway, will games even be on some special importance anymore? it might come to the following after the war:
Umm ... dude ... you might want to delete that ...

They are still making their biggest games crossgen and they have problems producing hardware for widespread availability. I expect this gen to be the longest ever.

I put 7 yrs. We'll have to see what MS does. If they roll their hardware and do a XSS and XSX (gen 2) as a replacement for the current models and not as something mid-gen, maybe that happens in 2024. Though I'm sure the current models would remain supported for 3 or 4 years afterwards. If both just do mid-gens and add a more expensive model, than it might be longer.

I owned both a X1 and PS4 (technically still have them). I'll probably get a PS5 slim eventually, on the back-end of the generation when most of the big exclusives are either cheap or on PS+.

That's not really the case anymore. PS5 will finally catch up (and likely exceed) PS4 sales rate next year. Ragnarok is prob the last 1st party AAA game to be developed under cross-gen.

I wanted a huge leap from PS4PRO, and Ps5 has been only an improvement adding 60fps to 30fps PS4Pro visual quality. PS6 can't arrive soon enough for me.

At the same time, I know that will not solve my frustration because my main problem is not graphics, but how bad gameplay is compared with 10 years ago. So I try to mitigate my frustration with graphics.

The technically correct answer is 7 years, by 2027 we will have a PS6, the issue is i think from now on we will be in a permanent cross gen period during new consoles launches so the PS5 will be getting games until 2029-2030 just like PS4 is doing right now. So to me the answer is both 7 and 10 years.

I voted 7 years and that made sense to me 2 mins ago but We've had so many games being just a last-gen game but only souped up that I'd be fine for 7 years STARTING TODAY. We need more games like Demon's Soul, Ratchet And Clank: Rift Apart, Returnal

They should just go ahead and release new consoles in 2024, even if they're just a mid-gen refresh. The 2019 spec they are locked to just doesn't hold up against what PC is capable of.

It's a difficult on. I voted ten, but then with the economy way it is, maybe 30 years. 😄 Also, I don't want mid gen refreshes every five years.

It's a very good hardware this time around. No way to improve storage/IO in the future as of yet.
Real cpus...

Should last a long time I hope. And I dont want pro consoles.
I bet 5 more years. Hopefully 7

If you mean this gen specifically then it's 10 years as its predecessors , though last gen was an exception cause of the weak specs. If you mean before the release of next generation then 6 years sounds healthy cause of different factors , one of them games just can't get cheaper and rely on sales cause it's an unhealthy practice and they wanna avoid it as much as they could by re-releasing the enhanced version , 7 years is just too long before releasing the next big hits , most of us got sick of waiting all because of that and it's not worth the wait especially games are just getting more expensive and they just keep changing rapidly, both hardware and contents should advance simultaneously, contents are declining and anyone can't deny this fact , look back in 6th and 7th gen , hitter titles got sequels in the same generation, why this is not happening anymore? Technology got more advanced with ai , it's doable to offload human tasks and rely on ai instead of human especially in crunch time.

PS5, PS5 PRO, PS5 ULTRA, PS6.

XBOX SERIES S, XBOX SERIES X, XBOX SERIES 3, XBOX SERIES PRIME, XBOX "NEW CATCHY BUZZ WORD" .

TL: DR - Two mid gens.

I'd hope around 7-8, I hope they don't just rush in the next one because so far in it still feels like we've barely started with covid disruptions and so on. Still not too many games redesigning around having fast SSDs for instance. I mean yeah if you turn on RT you probably sacrifice framerate and resolution and maybe that's what a Pro can address, but even that doesn't feel quite needed for another ~2 years let alone another generation. Just feels like we're still very early gen.

I expect the PS5 to last until 2030, I expect MS to go with an iterative model where boxes are natively expected to last for 10 years before being relegated to streaming for new games.

It will take moving heaven and earth to get Sony to change its business model.

The current consoles are acting as refined pro versions of last gen consoles and once we get current gen graphics, they will be running games at 30 fps(groce), so like others have said, the needed pro versions will again extend the gen to 7-8 years.

If it lasts even longer is anyone going to be mad at games looking like that Matrix demo at 60fps for the next 7 years? I won't. Even GoW and TLOU2 look good enough for me for a while to come.

Yeah... Like... we will start discussing that when it will at least begin.

Have no plan to buy Xbox, but maybe next Nintendo if they will make something with not too Jurassic Hardware
