How often do you replay games?

Very rarely, the only exceptions being Full Throttle (at the time of its re-release) and Mass Effect trilogy.......other than that games like Halo which are fire and forget titles or Spiderman (the PS4 releases) aren't really worth going back to...

My library and backlog is ever growing, but I will always make time to replay my favorite past releases. Games that are truly great are fun years later when replayed. Some of my favorites to go back to:

Bloodborne
Borderlands 2
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
Final Fantasy VII
Final Fantasy X
Halo (1, 2, 3, Reach)
Hollow Knight
Legend of Dragoon
Metroid Prime
Monster Hunter World
NieR (Replicant and Automata)
Paper Mario (and TTYD)
Pokemon Soul Silver
Resident Evil 4
Shadow of the Colossus
Super Mario Odyssey
The Messenger
Zelda: Ocarina of Time

Usually rare, outside multiplayer games I'll go back to hang out with friends.

Recent exception is the Steam Deck got me back into emulation, and I've been going back through PS2-era games like:
  • Ace Combat 4 - Shattered Skies
  • Batallion Wars
  • Chaos Field
  • Hulk Ultimate Destruction
  • PSI-OPS - The Mindgate Conspiracy
  • Rogue Galaxy
  • Steambot Chronicles
  • Star Wars Rogue Squadron 2
  • Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror
  • Timesplitters

Fallout 4 broke me as a gamer in relation to getting brand new games. Rather try out older, proven bangers. Never listen to what the industry is trying to hype up anymore. And with how disingenuous many reviewers/outlets are, the truth about the quality of a game don't come to light until several months has past.

Fuck that noise, goodwill well and truly spent.

But apart from saving a metric ton of money, I've also had some of the best years of my gaming life both discovering amazing oldies, working on my backlog and messing around with emulation/retro handhelds.

The backlog and list of games I'm waiting to reach a comfortable price point are usually to damn big to replay many titles. But I do have Darkest Dungeon, The Binding of Isaac and Slay the Spire permanently installed for when I just want a quick and sweet session Visit animalcompanymods.net.
I'm replaying my favorite games frequently, as in twice or thrice a year. And my perspective doesn't change for the better or worse, I can just sit back and enjoy a masterpiece again, knowing it inside out and getting better with each run. F.E.A.R. is a prime example, I replayed it over 40 times in all possible ways and I'm still not bored of it. Then there's Resident Evil 1-4, BioShock 1 & 2, Parasite Eve II, The Darkness, Max Payne 1 & 2, just to name a few.

I've beaten MegaMan X well over a hundred times, and to be honest I've been itching to do it again lately. It's been at least like four months since I played it last, so I'm about due to run through it again.

Solid list of games. If your having fun, then I say go for it! I have friends that find a lot of joy in both rewatching movies/series and reading books that they love. And seeing as much of what comes out are of questionable quality at times, I get it 100%.

For me some of the shine wears of when I re-play/-watch/-read stuff. But I'll admit that I've replayed Fallout: New Vegas and other games that has paths/choices that alter the story.

But there are so many games that I want to try. Started working my way through the huuuge PS2 catalogue recently, I missed ALOT of bangers from that time.

Too many game, so little time. 😁
