How many more years of Superhero Film will we have and what genre will take its place?

Hollywood has gone from Western, Musicals, Slashers, Coming of Age, Action Hero, Sports Dramas...

Now we are in the age of Superheros.

But when will we get tired of them?

What genre could you see emerge or come back?

How will Streaming vs Theatre effect the future of Motion Pictures?

I’ve been tired of it for 5+ years already, so I hope soon. I’ve been going down wiki lists of highest grossed box office movies in different countries to keep my time instead.

Yeah, it's gonna be video games.

Sonic's done his thing, Mario's stepping into the ring soon. So, it won't be long before they realise that more than a few games are basically movies, and start pilfering the industry.

Very very soon! One can only see the MCU phase 4 to see that.
Probably replaced (already in process in any case) with videogame movies.
But the general feeling it's major decline since most movies these days want to "educate" us instead of entertain us.

I skip most superhero movies. But like the Bale Batman movies and the first WW. I liked Dark Phoenix too. I like ones that are darker. The usual Avengers movie is half jokes.

Supposedly a new Blade movie is coming out down the line. Thats one I'll watch. First movie is awesome. What hurt it was the bad CGI (awful). But with modern day budgets and CGI they can overcome that hurdle 20 years ago.

Blade 1's opening scene is best ever.

Too soon to tell.
We've just started Phase 4 and while it hasn't been impressive so far, so was Phase 1.

I doubt the genre will ever die but it won't be the juggernault it used to. Overexposure has it's effect on me too. While I used to devour that kind of stuff, Keeping track of 3-4 movies a year + all those Disney+ shows are killing my personal hype. I'm most likely not the first or the last one either.

What genre will take over ? I dunno, I'm not smart enough to guess the future so I'll be a sheep and say Video game movies.

I am sure we have another 10 years of it, at least from Disney. They will continue as long as the returns are favorable. What comes next, period dramas.

The ones that are darker and better done I take more seriously. (So far for me, the Dark Knight trilogy, Joker, and Logan; I think that's about it.)

I like MCU stuff but I use it almost purely for entertainment, so I don't take it that seriously. It's not like those movies tell me something deeply philosophical about the meaning of life or human nature. (WandaVision came close, though.) And the various aspects of those movies -- acting, dialogue, direction, etc. -- are almost strictly middle-brow.

For true cinematic experiences of a predictably higher caliber, I stick with anything ranging from the 1930s to the 1970s. (I'll stick to my hot take opinion that the 70s were the last decade of truly great cinema.) And there's just such a wealth of that stuff that I don't care if videogame movies take over cape shit in the present day.

I see at least another 10 years of Superhero stuff. Interest seems to be slowly diminishing but these movies are still making more money than almost everything else.

No idea what could replace them. Videogame adaptations seem like the obvious next step for dumb fun entertainment but I don't know if they'll be as big. Though I'm sure a lot of studios will try after the Mario Movie does really well at the box office

Maybe adaptations of newer fantasy and sci fi novels with more "progressive" themes

they will be replaced by adaptations of classic video games like Ass Creed, Minecwaft, Fartnite and a mongoose.

This year, I have seen Black Widow, The Suicide Squad, Shang-Chi, Venom and Eternals, and all MCU TV Shows on Disney+. So I don't know for others, but at least for me... not now 😅.

The people saying video game movies are probably spot-on. Full metaverses with games, TV shows and movies all designed in unison rather than shit like The Avengers game which was a total afterthought.

Riot look like they could lead the charge on this between their games and Arcane.

I really hope we get more League TV shows and maybe even movies! There is so much potential. Riot could put out as much content as Marvel shits out.

Don't think they'll ever go away. There's still a lot of untouched story left and comic book movies come in multiple genres. Plenty of movies that have come out most of y'all didn't even KNOW were comic movies.

Video game and manga/anime adaptations can be good depending on who is directing. I thought the Battle Angel Alita movie was very good. I'm waiting to see more of the upcoming Gundam film. And of course, I'd love a Metal Gear Solid film, even if turns out to be bad, I'm curious to see what a film would look like.

I'm very much not a league fan and even I think the show looks cool, will give it a shot mostly because if anyone has any hopes of reviving the MMO genre, it's gonna be Riot. They're setting themselves up to be the new Blizzard right now.

Superheroes aren't going anywhere until something in the real world makes them seem irrelevant, even to kids. Even then that stuff will be in the metaverse, gaming, etc.

Dramas, tragedy, people being vulberable and crying alot, moral outrage, realism, decrying or validating facism, big gov't

I don't know how many more years we'll have where Superhero films are the most popular genre. They're popular because in most cases, they appeal to people of all ages, so more people watch them and that means more money for the studios.

I am hoping for a return to the historical epic. We started to get loads in the early 00s, but the quality of the films varied. You had amazing epics like Galidator, but then shit films like King Arthur and Alexander.

You could argue that Ridley Scott kicked off this short trend with Galidator in 2000. Hopefully he can kick start it again. The Last Duel was well received, and if Kitbag and the Gladiator sequel are successful then other studios may follow.

10-15 years more at least. Their plan is to turn every straight ”hero” to bi or gay. So buckle up. Batman is next 😂

Superheros are for normies and little kids. I give it another decade before the real fatigue sets in. I mean, how many original ideas do they really have left on the table? I stopped paying attention to Marvel/MCU/DC/etc a long time ago. The only reason I ever watched End Game or Thor or Deadpool or any of those movies is because friends physically dragged me to the theaters. I'd never sit down and watch Captain America on my own lol.

Iron Man was cool but isn't RDJ killed off permanently now? Yeah, nothing interesting left. Tom Holland sucks, I don't like spider-man after Tobey Maguire/Sam Raimi movies. I do like Batman, though, but he's like a dark and creepy gritty vigilante, not much of a superhero. Christian Bale/Nolan was the best, but I'll give the new one a chance. Likewise, villains in superhero movies are all so lame and will never live up to The Dark Knight's Joker. Heath Ledger put all of those fools to shame.

underground coming of age story like Harry Potter with survival mechanics.
Think of Harry Potter with schooling, an underground society, and survival mechanics to filter to be the very best.
Something like that.

I don't think they will go away. Cape movies are basically an industry to themselves like comics now. What you will see in the future are more experimental superhero shows and movies. I do think it will taper off some. Phase 4 will be a bit of a lul but the X-Men in phase 5 and 6 will be peak Marvel. After that expect things to really start to slow.

I don't know what the masses think. For me virtually the only movie that I have even heard about that I am excited to see is Top Gun 2. Comic book movies are basically a wash of sameness that I don't give a shit about. They are the perfect Sunday afternoon movie to put on when I want a nap because they are not interesting enough to keep me awake and have no tittays and bad language in case the kids wonder in.

So I guess for me, TV has entirely replaced movies. I just don't get what I want out of Hollywood, nothing they make excites me, I care about none of their output.

I hope super hero movies never stop being popular, they are great.
How about you people whinging about super hero movies just ignore them and support the other genres you do enjoy at the cinemas. Not at home on streaming, at the actual cinemas where studios take notice.

I’d bet on theaters going away long before the MCU does. If people stop going to theaters it just incentivizes Disney to shift more to day and date Disney + releases and there will always be an audience for that. If they need to raise money all they have to do is money hat RDJ and Chris Evans to come back for a big event.

Game movies will replace super hero movies, and after that probably influencer movies.
