How many NeoGAFians are impacted by the Xbox / GamePass price hikes?

Were you personally impacted by the console and GamePass price hikes?

  • Definitely. I have to reconsider if I'm going to give Xbox my money.

  • Moderately. It's annoying but I still feel Xbox and GamePass have value for me.

  • Minimally. I'm less interested in Xbox hardware & GamePass now.

  • No. I wasn't expecting to spend money on Xbox for a while.

stuck between the "no I wasn't expecting to give MS my money for a while" and "definitelt will consider carefully if I give them more money"
Have Ultimate stacked for another 2 years still so this current price rise does not affect me right now, and I guess in 2 years time gamepass will either have sorted itself out or be gone completely, but if my subscription was running out soon I 100% would not be resubscribing at these prices, it doesnt make sense and their cloud gaming isn't good enough still in my view. Not a fan of cloud gaming anyway but always thought the streaming tech that Sony bought and integrated was way ahead of xbox as far as playability and compatibility, though been years since I last tried it as haven't subscribed to PSN for years and years now, xbox cloud streaming is still just not what I expect as a gamer in 2025, its no geforce now

Moderately, according to the poll's options at least.

It's clearly much less of a bargain now, but if there's more than one game I'm interested in, I guess €27 is still somewhat acceptable if I can squeeze 2 or 3 games in one monthly subscription.

Been with Xbox since xbox live started and subscribed up until the announcement.
I may do once off months here and there if there's really a game I want for a short time.

Otherwise I'll stick to my PC and keep the xbox purely for GTA 6 when it comes.

I already thought that spending money on a service you don't use is dumb and after the first price increase.

I can't underatand why people waste money on Cable, Netflix etc when they don't even use it regularly.

I was using it for gfn. But it's not really something I need. I find myself playing games in my library more. I've cancelled it. I have it until the end of the month and I'm done with it.

I'm an active current gen Xbox console owner but oddly I'm not impacted by this. I rarely ever resub to GP and when I do it's only for online play if we're doing MH or Halo or something. So honestly I'm not impacted by it. and the base Xbox Live tier is still just $10 and that's never changed, ever.

But this whole idea that you could have a sustainable console business by removing the sale of your games just has always struck me as bizzare.

I don't understand what the logic ever was. There would be so many tens of millions of paying subscribers that they'd make more money than if they'd sold the games individually? 🤔. I don't know what sub number would need to be but it would need to be really really high.

Yea even I am done with it, pretty much transitioned to PC now anyway. I did like gamepass but I dont get enough time to play enough of the games to justify the price jump, I will just buy the games I want to play on Steam.

Just re-subscribed for another 3 years a couple weeks back. If I was paying full price I wouldn't even consider it. If anyone is considering gamepass they need to look into key sites , with this new price hike is not really a suggestion anymore.

I've got 99 problems but gamepass ain't one
If you're price increases, I feel bad for you son..

Unsubbed ages ago because I have a huge physical backlog and am mostly a PS and Nintendo player

My brother just cancelled because of the hike though

I'm good until next June, but a local store is still selling the 3 month cards for $60. I figure I'm still going to buy those until they are no longer available. After that, I'm probably going to keep GamePass. I'm going to see how much I use Ultimate vs Premium until next summer and choose then.

My lifestyle has been more handheld lately so I use the cloud frequently on the Steam Deck and play the Xbox when I'm on the TV after everyone goes to bed.

If only Microsoft would include Microsoft Realm servers with GamePass, it would be an automatic for me, even at $30.

'Moderately' though I don't honestly care too much. This mostly just affects the Xbox part of it and makes me less likely to buy into their next gen console. I don't see myself cancelling my PC subscription anytime soon unless they mess up the pricing there as well. And if they do then it's not like I won't have plenty of alternatives.

But the whole reason I own an Xbox is the first place is because I already had Game Pass on PC. The price difference was only 3€ back then which made it a cheap way to play on the couch. That price difference is now 12€ which effectively makes it a separate subscription and I'm not interested in paying double.

Doesn't affect me at all. Never had gamepass. Never would've gotten gamepass. Happy to see it fail like it is now and about time people are waking up to Microsoft and their shady practices. On the other hand, very sad to see what has happened to Xbox. I was once an Xbox fanboy. Their shift to gamepass changed my opinion of them completely and they lost me.

Had already decided not to renew. Future decisions will be based around hardware capability, ecosystem access and cost. Not sub services. If I ditch PS that gives me a grand extra or so for alternative hardware than the PS6 is my current thinking, providing the alternative gives Steam access. Other factors are important though, like UX.

I'm subbed out until March 2028 thanks to MS Rewards. I'll let it lapse at that point and only sub for a month here or there if something worthwhile hits the service. But I don't really buy new games on Xbox anymore, anyway. I love my BC library there so I keep my consoles mainly for that.

I'm subscribed until July 2026, and I would always just convert from Xbox Live Gold/Gamepass core to Ultimate, so none of these price increases have had any real impact on me. I don't even understand what all this hysteria is about the price increase. Even at $30, it's still a better deal to subscribe for one month to play a game like Gears of War E-Day versus spending $70+ on that one game.

I have such a large backlog of games I want to play that Game Pass mostly just caused me stress. Not sure I would even pay 5€ per month for it, although it's certainly worth more than that for the right person. Even so, I certainly did play quite a few really cool games on it when I had the sub.

Probably going to downgrade to "premium". If I don't enjoy that, I'm selling my series x. Although I'm not selling till after stores have sales to get rid of their stock (would never get a good price for it during then).

I haven't had a subscription in a while and when I did, I was doing so via Microsoft Rewards (speaking of services that have shit the bed). The service makes more sense to me as something you subscribe to once or twice a year when there are a few titles you are interested in playing. The price hike doesn't alter my thinking much, but I'd probably rather invest $30 for a month into my other digital libraries rather than a month of games I have passing interest in.

I would just keep the box and wait till someone hack it to make it into an ultimate emulation system.

I bought the MCC Xbox One bundle 12 years ago or whenever it was, they've never gained another penny from me since that fateful day.

In early 2022 I cancelled GamePass and haven't spent a cent on xbox since.
This was when I finished with Forza Horizon 5 which I enjoyed, and Halo Infinite which was ok.
Kind of felt like a send off then to be honest.
I'd been a constant subscriber since XboxLive started in 2002/2003.

Honestly I'm less upset about the bullshit cost than I am about the bullshit reasons and additions.

Fuck paying more for CoD and Fortnite.

I had PC gamepass for about a year now, I'll not be renewing it. It expires December which is perfect! as I wish to start 2026 with only essential entertainment subscriptions required in life ( Apple Music, YT Premium).

I'm cancelling Amazon Prime, Netflix, Xbox PC Gamepass and a few other mobile app shits.
