How many other metal bands can say they have a YT video with a billion views?

I guess in a way it's not too surprising seeing how it's a classic, but still pretty amazing.

1. Linkin Park - Numb 1.5b

2. System of a down - Chop Suey 1.0b

3. Nirvana - Smells like Teen spirit 1.1b (is this metal?)

Op these bands are not metal at all.
And none, there is no metal youtube video with more than billion views, the closest you can get is Metallica videos.

I'd disagree, but I can see how LP might not be considered metal by many.

But SOAD? It's definitely different than traditional metal, but IMO it checks all the boxes: heavily distorted guitars, screamed vocals, dark / moody lyrics, untraditional song structure.

I mean, nu metal counts enough. I'm not too big on genre purity.

I'm surprised Numb has more views than Smells Like Teen Spirit tbh.

I'd figure Metallica would be up there... but I guess not?

Metal bands.

I mean come on, A-Ha is more Metal than any of these bands and they also have more than a billion views.
And I am not even joking, A-Ha is unironically more Metal than any of these bands.

Damn, people are fixated with Nirvana. :messenger_grinning_smiling: It was a mistake to include it. I just thought it was close enough, heavy sounding, and that it was interesting that it made it to a billion views. I knew people would question it being metal. It's not.

I stand by the other two. SOAD is undeniably metal. LP has metal elements to their earlier albums, but it's definitely a very accessible type of metal. To me the screamed vocals, heavy guitars and darker melodies makes it sound metal. But yeah, I can see how the accessible nature of their music would make people disagree.

Metal is more of an acquired taste. I don't expect it to have a billion views and now it seems impossible as golden age of YT for music is over and most people stream on other apps.
Even I don't enjoy Metal, the closest I have come to enjoy it is the Soundtrack of Prince Of Persia: Warrior Within and this fantastic song:

I love soad as much as the next nu rock fan but i just can't see them as metal .. high minded rock at high volume, i feel like they're descended from the Jethro tull school of "metal"

where is the "metal" in those bands?

SOAD is metal, even if they get a lot of hate.

Linkin Park is a hard pop rock. And Nirvana is grunge/alternative.

Still impressive as fuck.

I just don't know why Chop Suey is the most massive SOAD song, they have many better songs including Toxicity, but somehow it became a staple.

linkin park ain't metal lol.

system of a down are pure trash i will never understand why people listen to them. that song is just a stupid meme cause the singer sounds like he's "singing" a load of non sense.

System of a Down had a large following way before that song happened.

FNM had the same bollocks thrown at them with 'Angel Dust', tell me Jizzlober ain't a metal song.

Followed up by a Lionel Richie cover.

Those are mainstream bands. The closest real metal band to reach billion is probably Slipknot or Metallica. But they're still way off from billion.

OP is asking us to hunt down cute little metal bands with billions of views?

322million

85million

44million

310million

172million

Btw check some Death metal bands...believe it or not those have in the 10s of millions of views. I was pleasantly surprised. I mean we are talking about bands that dont get daytime radio play.

This threads brings back memories of my high school days when my friends I would get together in the woods at night, burn some bibles, swear our allegiance to Satan and listen to Linkin Park.

Genre purists are the lamest, especially sub genre purists.

Yes black metal snobs, I'm looking directly at you

SOAD is probably the only band the seems "metal" to me in the OP. Linkin Park was always this weird rap-metal hybrid thing.

I also had "Butterfly" burned on an old CD that I made in like 2001 or 2002.

Burned it using this fucking thing that everyone I knew had:
