So I was watching the latest Asmongold video about the The Video Game Awards and the guy said that 90% of the votes comes from juries, and those are from all kinds of magazines and whatever, and only 10% are from the popular vote, so that makes the popular opinion close to none

Is that true?

I mean, the fact that a DLC now makes the cut doesn't make sense. The fact that a lot of non gaming sites are juries doesn't make sense either. Now this?!

Very few award shows are voted on by fans. Some have 1 or 2 awards specifically for fan votes, but everything else is voted on by a jury that is made up of people in whatever industry the award ceremony is for.

There is literally no good way to do this. It is, at its core, a popularity contest. It's not for everyone and should not be taken seriously.

Game Critics Awards was as the name suggest Game Critics.
DICE is developers and publishers.


I think only Golden Joystick are weighted more towards "fans".

The problem with fan weighted votes is well........just look at Metacritic user reviews.

A game is almost always either a 10 or a 0.
Which just isnt anywhere near nuanced enough.
And of course fanboys will just ruin shit.
A game like Control would probably never even get nominated.


I do think TGA is the worst of these award shows cuz people are allowed to vote on games they havent even played.
The Jury should be forced to put a certain number of hours into the game before they can have an opinion on it and vote.


Theres a magazine I used to intern for way back when that also did the same thing, and id always be so pissed at the writers/editors, Id be like how can you say game x is better than game y when you havent played either game?
Some games look like fun but are trash to play, some games look like trash but are amazing to actually play.
