Launch Gta V was at a time when digital AAA games was not really that popular on consoles.
Gta VI is gonna break everyones expactations.

I think we will see a drop compared to GTA V. There were more PS3's and 360's in the wild when it launched, it was also cheaper.
Should be higher cause GTA has gotten even more popular compared to V's launch day and there's a lot more influencers now with the more popular ones having millions of fanbase each. GTA VI's trailer also has more than twice the view compared to GTA V's trailer views and that's within 1 year for VI's trailer vs 13 years for V's trailer.

15 to 20 seems pretty reasonable. 25 million + if it also launches on PC because PC has gotten extremely huge too within this decade.

25 million+. The 13-year-olds who weren't even alive when GTA V released are a whole new market segment that's ready for VI Day One. Basically saying that those who bought V will buy this and then some.

I've got non-gamer friends asking me about GTA VI. It's a whole other level of zeitgeist.

I don't agree, I think with the the large disparity between install bases and higher costs, it should be lower. There were over 160 million consoles that could play GTA V at launch. If they continue to launch on console only, there will be around 115-120 million potential customers (not accounting for dual console ownership for 2013 nor 2026 numbers). GTA was just a culturally relevant in 2013 when V launched. Youtube is much larger in 2025 than it was in 2013, I'm sure the trailer does have more views. Not many people go back and watch reveal trailers of older games, this is an apples to oranges comparison. If they change course and launch simultaneously on PC, then it will be higher.

15M - 20M on day 1 would be my guess.

Regardless, GTAVI release should easily make it the biggest entertaining launch ever.

Edit: Day 1 GTAV sales were 800M USD Worldwide

Remember: lack of Switch 2 port is going to affect sales. 🤭

The real question is the player count, or that's what the AC guys told us. 400 kazillion player count!
It's not on a service. Why post such a lame thing when you know that people who play games that are on services are an important statistic, especially for things like AC where it is sub, beat, cancel.

I say 30 mil plus. It has a year of hype to build, been a dozen years since the last entry that was already record breaking, the gaming industry itself has grown exponentially, and GTA has the casual and hardcore crowd both. I think it's going to be a monumental, historic launch.

I voted 10 million, for a few reasons. I think more people are investing/moving over to PC gaming and it (likely) won't be PC day one. We also don't know the price point. If some of the folks are right and this game is $100 for the base edition, I think that eats into a bit of the day one sales too.

It'll still do gangbusters.

First day is impossible to say. It'll sell over 100 million across all platforms for sure before any big price cuts.

I voted 50 Million so I can say I I predicted record sales if it happens but I really think it will be around 35 mill.

How? Do you know how many consoles will be out there that can play the game next Spring? It'll only be around 130 Million.

My friend, do you think the most anticipated game in the history of the video game medium will sell less than 30 million globally day 1?

Voted 25m but wouldnt be surprised with up to 50m, lifetime game definitely has potential for 200m+ copies sold.

This will more than likely be a much larger of an adoption/attachment rate than how things were 12+ years ago. Social media and the whole cultural phenomenon has exploded exponentially.

Especially the income tax return window.

GTA5 still charts after all of these years. Same with RDR2.

It's never NOT charted since release.

100%!!!! You're talking one out of every 4 consoles owners buying GTA6 on day one? I just can't see it. I'd be happy to be wrong.

I'm laughing at people thinking only 20 Million if GTAV did 16M. Gaming has become a lot more mainstream since then. This is going to break gaming sales history.

I voted 40M but I think it could go higher.

I think they're appealing to both a male and female audience here. They already know the male audience is in for GTA, how to do you get female audience? Romance focus and an extremely hot dude as the MC, and if they're gay well Lucia is just as hot.

25 million day 1.
Good analysis.. You're probably right, but I think it will be more than 25M.

GTAV sold 16 MILLION on launch day !? Fuckin hell.

I'm guessing 16M for GTA6 also. maybe 100$ price point might slow some people down.

I think its going to get 50 million on the first day at least, I mean are we counting digital pre-orders here too, right?
Along with people that will just buy it day 1 digital and get physical?

When GTA V first released, buying console games digitally was not nearly as common as it is today. It's going to fucking explode. A whole new generation grew up into young adults and teenagers since GTA V was first released. I got friends I grew up with that are playing GTA V with their kids online.

HUGE. It will probably be a landmark event in the entertainment industry as a whole.

I think only Fallout 4 came close to that in 24 hours with Fallout 4 selling 12 million in 1 day. Skyrim sold over 60 million copies 2 years ago and Pete Hines said Fallout 4's selling rate is even faster than Skyrim but Bethesda don't usually announce But with how the Fallout tv season is the most popular game to tv series so far than it's bound to boost sales even further.

GTA VI should do 20 million within 24 hours only stop being higher due to much higher prices compared to the past.
