Dont care for it at all. So many anime suffer tonally thanks in part to needlessly injected fan service.

Looking back on this as an adult, tropes like this are so lame. It's the beta male trope and it makes me cringe so hard.
Then again I can't stand how Shinji is wittten, his mannerism and overly emotional temperament comes off more like a female than a male character.
Whoa, you read my mind there, mate. I felt Shinji was written terribly, too and that he sorta enjoyed that. Fanservice disrupts from the story of most anime (imagine something Kawajiri with can service...other than the old pervert in Wicked City).

A little fan service is good imo but if it enters Dragon ball Super territory it becomes unenjoyable.

In terms of T&A, I welcome it, at least with that I know the shows self aware.

What is "fan service" according to you? It has become shorthand for TnA in the mind of many. When I hear someone wanting "fan service" in games it's difficult not to think of...

Anything from sexual to violence to staying 100% true to the source material to cameos and easter eggs. Its a breadth of concepts. what matters is the intent by creators to specifically include things for the fanbase/due to their asks/wants
and expectations

Fan service according to wikipedia :

Fan service is material in a work of fiction or in a fictional series which is intentionally added to please the audience. It is about "servicing" the fan– giving the fans "exactly what they want."Fan service can also refer (by means of text, symbol, image, sound) to other stories that contain visual elements.

This is such a broad definition that it can cover virtually everything. "Do you want to have stuff in games?" ;)

It was okay at first. Didn't mind it in Rumiko Takahashi titles or even the original Dragon Ball. By the late 90's, it was getting nauseating. Golden Boy is something I can tolerate a few episodes of...but the amount of fan service in Trigun, Those Who Hunt Elves (those who hunt Elvis is what I call it), and in 2000's anime is just beyond. These are opinions and if can service is your thing...very well.

Yes, we understand fan service is not just T&A...but that kind of fan service is the most popular. Therefore, it should be understandable why many consider that to be the epitome of fan service.

I don’t mind and often enjoy fan service but not everything has to have it. Whether it’s sexual content or crowd pleasing plot points - it’s all good.

I enjoy stuff like cameos and references but other than that I generally dislike fanservice.

It's, for example, why I dislike the work of JJ Abrams. Both his take on Star Trek and Star Wars come across as really bland and forgettable because he focuses so much on nostalgia and fan service that his movies end up lacking an identity of their own and just come across as bad fanfic.
