How often do you replay games?

I used to replay games more and blah blah blah old blah blah blah backlog.

Only game I beat twice this generation was SMG 1.

I think I've replayed most of my favorite Final Fantasy games at least twice. Also beat every mainline MGS game 3 times up until MGS 4 --> I was waiting for that damn trophy patch that never came :(

I've been replaying certain Bayonetta chapters several times a week since the title was released. Games I enjoy, and that have good replay value (like Mass Effect and The Last Remnant) I tend to replay twice. Games with insane replay value, like the Halo series, I'll replay (or at least revisit my favorite parts) several times a month for over a year.

Some games, I replay almost on a yearly basis (Super Mario 64, Super Mario World, Super Metroid, Metroid Prime, handled Castlevanias, Ace Attorney series), others I finish them (Almost never 100%) and never play them again.

I do plan to re-play Mass Effect & Mass Effect 2 once I know when they're realeasing ME3.

I replay classic games a lot, modern games not so much.

Frequently in my replay list:

Super Mario World
Super Castlevania IV
Chrono Cross
Sonic the Hedgehog series (16 bit)
Streets of Rage 2
Tetris Attack

And lots of shmups and arcade games.

I tend to replay games frequently. Just this year I've gone through:

PC Kings Quest VI Heir Today, Gone Tomorrow
360 Mass Effect 2 (normal and insane)
PS3 God of War 3 (normal and Titan)
360 Resident Evil 5 (coop professional)
360 Splinter Cell Conviction (normal and realistic)
PC Portal
PC Max Payne 2
PC F.E.A.R.
PC Half-Life 2 (twice this year alone) + Ep 1
PC Crysis & Warhead
PS3 Infamous
PC Mirror's Edge
PC Dead Space
PC Prey
XBLA Limbo (twice)

Damn. That's a lot more than I thought. Amazingly, I still find time to play new games, too.

Steam sales tend to nudge me to replay games that I've beaten previously on consoles (Mirrors Edge, Dead Space), or that might have activation limits (Crysis). Looking at the list of my installed games can always cause me to replay something.

I replay god of war 1&2 every year around october. Every year I also do another run through of links awakening.
Also seems that about every 2 years I play through HL2

0.

I buy games and sell them after I'm done except in a few rare cases. Only game I've replayed was MGS1 after it was released on PSN.

I only replay games with nostalgia factor like Sonic Adventure or Ninja Gaiden. I'm not much for replaying games twice. To me, it's like rewatching a comedy movie. The challenge is gone, I already know what to do, and it's sort of a bore and annoyance afterwards when you start to notice the flaws.

I replay more games often than not. For example I am playing through Mass Effect again right now. I plan on playing ME2 again to carry on this character. Aside from that I tend to replay some of my absolute favorites somewhat frequently. Some of these include Jedi Knight 2, Infamous, and other various Bioware games.

I tend to play longer games more times than other more linear and shorter games. Guess I just get more enjoyment out of them.

Always. If I find a game mediocre, it'll get traded. If it's good enough to stay on my shelf, then I'll replay it from time to time.

Just letting it sit there and never playing it seems like a giant waste.

Usually I struggle with completing a game once, but there are a few exceptions - games that I have played through more than twice. Here's the list:

Super Mario World - ( too many times to count - I still play it through annually )
Metroid Prime ( three times, and pretty soon a fourth time since I got the Metroid Prime Trilogy -release for the Wii )
Monkey Island, Monkey Island 2 - ( the first one twice now, the second one probably about five times )
Final Fantasy VII - ( About three times )
Final Fantasy VIII - ( About three times as well )
Halo: CE - 6 times, at least ( on various difficulties ).
Doom, Doom II - ( Too many times to count... )
Mass Effect - ( Three times - one of my favourite games of this gen. Will start a second playthrough of ME2 soon )

The only game I ever played through twice is Super Mario Galaxy. For the rest, I'd rather focus on my backlog or on playing new games... time is so scarce nowadays :)

I make a note to replay Half Life 2 once every year. I also occasionally replay Halo 1 and... The Darkness for some reason.

I've done a few run throughs of Mass Effect, but I tend to undermine it by making the exact same choices each time.

Oh, and the Max Payne series. Of course.

Everything else... essentially never.

I try to replay all games I own from time to time. That is if I liked them. Alot of games leave me feeling like I could have done something better with my time but I do try to rotate them. This generation especially have been really kind to my wallet thanks to repeated replaying of all titles I've owned. :)

I mostly replay the SNES and PSone RPGs, namely the ones by Squaresoft and Enix (exception being Suikoden II, Tomba, and Castlevania: SotN) at least once a year.

Edit: Also Braid and Portal this gen. Silent Hill 2 and 3, KH, and FFX last gen.

I usually wait a year before replaying any of my longer games (short games like the old Castlevanias or Contras are obvious exceptions), feels fresher that way!

Of course crap games that I hate get sold on ebay ASAP so they wouldn't get replayed anyway.

The only game which I have liked but never felt any desire to replay is Gears of War. It's strange, I enjoyed playing through the game enough to play through it once but never wanted to touch it again afterwards. It must simply not be a good enough game I guess...

Most of the singleplayer games I REALLY REALLY like that have some form of New Game+ get 2 playthroughs. Very few get 3 (Mass Effect, MGS4, Uncharted 2, RE4)

Co-op campaign can fluctuate between 1-5 times depending on how much my friends and I like the game.

Bayonetta is the exception. I've played through that probably 10+ times since release, and single chapters too many to count.

Depends on the game.

There are plenty of games that get multiple replays, like Halos, Gears of Wars, Ninja Gaidens, Resident Evils and Bioware games. And then there are many more, that I would want to play again, but just don't seem to have the time, for example: System Shock, Deus Ex, Bioshock, Dead Space, Fallouts etc.

I'm playing through my N64 and GC collection every 3 or 4 years. However, there are games that I like to replay more often (Metroid Fusion, more than 20 times) and some where it's unlikely that I'll replay it (Final Fantasy X).I already want to replay FFXII.

I replay a lot of games I like, finishing them on higher difficulties, unlocking secrets etc. I don't finish most of the games I start though.

I see people make lists, so I'll make mine as well (in brackets number of replays):
Tomb Raider 1 (many times)
Tomb Raider 2 (once)
Prince of Persia: Sands of Time (twice)
Jagged Alliance 2 (3 times)
Halo - all games except Wars, numerous times
Baldur's Gate 1 (twice)
Ninja Gaiden (twice)
Another World - (once)
and many strategy games and tycoons and some other games across years.

Almost never, only if the game is extremely short like Afterburner Climax. Or if there is cool extra stuff (like new areas in Vagrant Story). I tried to replay lots of games but I always get bored after a few hours.

Only games I played through more than once are RE 1, RE 2 and Vagrant Story. Oh and Disgaea.

Not very often. I do however plan to replay a few RPGs I have (ME2, FO3 ect)and do some things totally different.

I guess the only other time I replay games is in anticipation of a new release in a series.

Thanks all, some eye opening posts. I'm going to dump a few of my games on Game tomorrow and get some store credit ready for Vanquish and LBP2. Although, the thread has also made me want to replay RE4, so I might end up picking that up tomorrow if I see it.

Almost never. Played Mass Effect through twice, the second time was only to experience the Sovereign conversation on Virmire, which was likely my favorite game moment of all time.

Wait. Do you mean that you don't have to go there? I would like to replay it to save
Wrex

The only game I can think of right now, that I've played more than once is Knights of the Old Republic. Just to once be the good guy and once join the dark side.

There are a lot of games that I want to replay but I just don't do it very often. My first reaction was, sure I replay my favorite games from time to time but after trying to think of the last game that I've played through a second time I realized that I don't do it.

Oh and I'm not sure if this counts but I am playing through Demon's Souls a second time but its with my same character on NG+.

Hmm, the game I have finished the most... obviously SMB1/3/World/YI/DKC1-3/other classics but from "modern" games it must be MGS3 with like 30 playthroughs.

Depends on the quality of the game, really.

Stuff like Super Metroid/Resident Evil 4/MM2/Yoshi's Island/ICO/etc I've played many times because they're so damn good. That said I still do space them out, it's very rare that I'll replay a game straight after beating it.

I replay games quite often. I replay the entirety of Baldur's Gate II at least once a year. I usually reserve a chunk of time for this game late November-December to keep me salivating for games I'll get for Christmas.

In just the past 2 weeks I finished a replay of Arkham Asylum and just started up a replay of The Witcher. I'm also really looking forward to replaying Mass Effect 2 once the Liara DLC is out.

This year alone, I've replayed Uncharted 2, God of War III, Halo 3, Halo ODST, and Dragon Age: Origins and Awakening (3 times so far. Goddamn I love that game). Hell, I often find I enjoy a game even more during a second or subsequent playthrough. I notice little details I missed the first time around, or have grown comfortable with the basics of the combat that I can start experimenting with other tactics.

I'll even replay massive open world games, though it is harder as I invest so much in my character that a replay usually means hundreds of hours. I can't see myself replaying GTA IV or GTA IV: Episodes. But I might try to give RDR another go-round. If Fallout: New Vegas wasn't being released so soon, I'd probably replay Fallout 3. But right now, I don't really see the point.

I rarely if ever replay SP stuff. There's to much other stuff I want to play, and just other stuff I want to do in general with my life to replay a lot of stuff. That being said some games that become classics do get replayed from time to time by me namely Super Metroid or ALTTP.

I'll only go back to modern games if there is some kind of generated experience like REZ or if it's something that's like say a Geo Wars or a Chime. Those games aren't really SP campaigns though.

Only games I every fully replayed were the God of War games, Metal Gear Solid 1 and 2 and Uncharted 1 and 2.

O, and the (classic) Sonic / Mario games of course, as a lot of them are portable and always fun to play.

I seldom replay my games until near the end of a generation, the only ones i can think of are multiplayer games and open world games. I've never traded in my games or sold them... yet.

I do the same with ICO/Sotc

I replay games quite often. If I'm not playing any new titles. I can look at my collection and play something I've already beaten 2X times. I don't buy/keep games I have no desire to play more than once.

I replayed Uncharted Drakes Fortune 3 times, God of war 1 and 2 (replaying now) and that's about it I guess. Don't really replay games...
