How often do you stop and enjoy the scenery in games?

In old Bethesda games like Fallout 3 and Oblivion/Skyrim, standing on a cliff or being on top of a tower and seeing stuff all the way to the horizon was incredible.

Ya, it's blocky and there's pop up as Gamebryo can look chunky, but the scope is incredible for the time.

Oh what a coincidence you made this thread as I just finished A Plague Tale Requiem and while I'm usually not that into photo modes per se I couldn't help but zoom around every chance I got. What an incredible looking game.

I try to more often these days. Part of it is to try and immerse myself in the world, try to see if there are details that tell me something about the setting or lore. Another reason is thinking about how hours and days of effort went into creating many of these places, seems a shame to rush by without taking it in.

I remember getting an Xbox back in the day with Halo, taking it home, playing till I got outdoors. I could not stop looking at the grass. It looked like an oil painting. Hard to describe my wonderment, but it was a revelation after playing Summoner on the PS2 at that consoles launch.
Of all the things to admire in that game it's the grass that got me. LOL!!!

Fairly often in normal games, but in VR all the time - it's different when you perceive yourself as actually being there, hits harder.

Literally me, i got some list which i often load the games, just for seeing the world...

- FF16
- FF15
- FF12
- FFX

- Xenoblade series

- MHR
- MHP3rd

- Tales series

- BoTW
- ToTK

- Wildland
- Farcry 3
- Mass effect series

I'm working as Visual artist as well, I regard the visual candy in video games, especially imaginative scifi or high fantasy games.

The updated graphics has made me appreciate Horizon Zero Dawn even more. Doing much more exploration than I did the first time I played, now I want to get the platinum. Cutscense are so much better, but Forbidden West still has better animations.

Not often. I enjoy good scenery but I don't really stop to gawk at it.

I will say though that playing Deus Ex Human revolution after CP2077 Phantom Liberty shows how far we have come in terms of immersive environments.

Naighty dog games are great for this, especially TLOU & UC2 I explore every nook and cranny in those games and I'm constantly blown away by the sheer artistry on display especially the pirate town in UC4 with it's crumbling mansions overgrown with jungle, it pains me that studios don't add in a PSVR2 art option where you can after completing a level go back through it in VR and explore and enjoy the sheer hardwork these guys and gals have put into the game, as some of these levels merely exist to simply walk through whilst the story expands.

Forbidden West was another, jesus that game was a constant stop and stare with it's crazy vistas, don't know how many times I got off the sofa to go stand in front of the TV and admire it, turning to the wife and saying would you look at this scenery... And she'd be all looks lovely whilst barely rasing her head from her phone lol

I don’t do it intentionally.

Game has to earn it.

Recently played System Shock, stopped a few times to take in Saturn views.

Not too often. I don't do it in real life that much anymore, either. I think my attention span has been drastically shortened. I should do it more often. Thanks, OP.
May the Holy Trinity grant you this, God is beautiful in real-life scenery and in the video game format
I like how developers transition real-life's looks into game graphics, either super stylized or mimiking
Recently I really enjoyed the world in MGS5: PP

Yeah, me too. All the time. Probably the reason I barely ever finish open world games nowadays and take absolutely ages on linear games. My favourite is still just trotting around the landscape on Roach in Witcher 3

It was pretty much the reason I enjoyed the Assassin's Creed games back in the day,the game design was never that engaging but travelling around the enviroments was always pretty immersive.

Have you played open-world Zelda? It's such a journey to go from your location to something random in the distance
