Over the pandemic, my reliance on these services has become borderline absurd. I went from ordering delivery through some app 1-2x a month to 2-3x times a week.

I get the DashPass and Postmates Unlimited for free so it helps with the cost. Most delivery is free, just need to worry about food + tip.

Honestly idk if it's just where I live but I seem to get 25-45% discount promotions on Postmates almost daily (have them on DoorDash too, but it's less common). Often the food ends up being cheaper delivered + tip than it would be if I ate at the restaurant.

Huge part of my reliance is the fact that I live near downtown LA. I really try to avoid getting in my car because parking/traffic is usually a nightmare. And delivery is just so damn convenient. There's also so many great restaurants to choose from in LA.

On average I'd probably say twice a week. I live in Canada so we've had more severe + longer restaurant restrictions so we actually haven't been able to go to a restaurant.

When everything is back to normal maybe I will still do it once a week. But I also live downtown in a city so I feel bad ordering delivery when there's lots of great takeout options in walking distance. I try to use delivery for new places that are a bit too far for a walk during winter.

Nah, that shit is too expensive to do weekly. I rarely do it, and I'm trying to expand my cooking knowledge. When I want to treat myself, my GF and I go eat at a restaurant.

Sorry but I'm a restaurant manager and I see what the majority of the drivers look like and act. Do you want your food to taste like weed? (I dunno, maybe you do) because I'd say half the drivers stink of it to high heaven.

Edit: So no, I'd never use it.

My company had a complimentary subscription and handed out a few $100 in gift cards for DoorDash and I never had a good experience. Fucking expensive even with the sub, cold food, and generally disappointed with the food overall. Everything went to shit because of Covid.

I'm one of those weirdos that makes nearly all my meals at home. It's crazy what places are charging these days for very subpar shit. Like Restaurant Impossible level.

Only when I'm drunk as hell at 2am. Otherwise, never. They upcharge the shit out of everything and my order has been fucked up probably 50% of the time.

2-3 times a week, great way to discover new food and also get kids their MacDo on a Friday evening. As with groceries no way I am walking for click&collect.

Never. Who wants some random greaseball/pothead snacking/spitting on your food. And the money you’re wasting… get your lazy ass out there and get it. It’s not like you had to hunt and kill the food. Never used delivery on pizza either, well it’s been near a decade since anyway.

When this first became an option I couldn’t believe it and I still can’t lol

Who do you even complain to when they mess up your order?

i used door dash like once every week or two in 2018 / 2019 before I changed my entire financial outlook / saving money during Covid. I went back and looked at my orders and realized how jacked up the prices were and finally saw the light on their subscription ploy of $12 minimum order to get free delivery. My average order was ~$18 for a single meal as I bought extra food just to hit that free delivery tier to make it feel like the subscription I bought was worth it.

I’m not discounting the entirely of the service as it’s convenance factor is pretty great, but I use it maybe once every 2 or 3 months now. ….sometimes I do miss getting chipotle on a regular basis though…

Never used any of them.

We cook all our meals and order out once a week (pick up).

We do however have a subscription to Hello Fresh which comes every two weeks with three meals (six meals a month). That has opened up quite a few new dishes we regularly cook now that we have the recipes off hand.

Learning to cook for yourself and others, especially dishes that aren't the norm is a great thing.

A couple times a week, but only for very specific meals and restaurants. You need to really dig and figure out what prices are good and what are ridiculous, because it's all over the place.

Also, a lot of restaurants now put your food in bags that are literally glued closed - it's not like they are delivering your food in the small bag you would get in the store.

If you like paying $65 for a $30 meal, sure.

Do people actually do this? I use DoorDash, and the delivery fees are usually 1-3 bucks depending on the store, then I usually tip 5-8 bucks on the total.
Generally costs me about ten dollars extra, certainly not double the entire check. I'm a lazy bastard so I consider it my lazy tax.

Never.
I get takeout maybe once a month and my town is small enough that I just drive to pick it up on my way home

My one and only order that I used when I had a gift card:
Food $42
$3.47 tax
$6 Delivery Fee
$8 Service Fee
$5 Tip
$64.47 total

Had a buddy order McDonals for his breakfast the other day.
$15 of food.
$6 delivery fee
$3 service fee
$1.26 tax
$3 tip

$16.26 for food
$12 fees. not including tax

so yeah it is a lazy tax for sure. Sometimes it's not double, but it's up there. Even if you order pick up through door dash or wherever, you still pay the service fee, and the prices are inflated as well. Just call the restaurant or order directly from them and go pick it up.

Almost never. The fees make it ridiculous.

Also its amazing to me how many people get fast food this way...you dont even have to get out of your fucking car to get this food.

I have used uber before, but there was always something missing, typically a piece of chicken or one of the drinks you don't really get this if you order direct.

I voted never but not because I always cook (even tho I do it frequently). I still eat out but I've grown to really like to pick up food instead of waiting so I do it fairly often on several restaurants I have in my neighborhood. Its very practical.

As for this type of service, while I think the idea of having the possibility of trying many different things is great, getting overpriced cold meals delivered by under-paid workers with some unknown hygienic conditions hasn't really won me over. It is practical when I have a sex date and she's hungry lol

I always thought the take-away (take-out) food is a pretty big opportunity but I don't think we have found the optimal implementation yet. These services ain't it.

This week I've used it for the first time. Stuck at home with covid and I don't always have someone to drop it off for me.

In my entire life, I've only gotten food via GrubHub twice. And the first time was only because we got a nasty sudden snowstorm and I was short on food.

But I usually cook myself and meal prep for the week, so I rarely order out.

I really try to avoid getting in my car because parking/traffic is usually a nightmare.
I can empathize with this, though. I also live in a major city in the US, and street parking in my neighborhood is a giant pain in the ass; so, often I schedule my activities so that I either come home a bit on the early side (before 5), or super late (after 10) -- nothing in between. Between 5:30 and 10 PM or so it's practically impossible to find parking.

I used it twice while out of town for an AEW event back in November, and I will never use it again. I don't see what is great about paying a ton of money with tip and shit to get ice cold food that has all melded together on the ride to your place. First and last time for me personally, I'd much rather cook.

FYI if in California at least the food is sealed when you get it. I think it might be a new law or something because I've noticed all the delivery services do it. It's like unwrapping a package basically.

I order from close places so the food usually arrives hot. In the event that it arrives late and cold, both PostMates and DoorDash have issued me a credit in the full amount of the order, which basically means the meal is free. I had that happen a few days ago actually. They're pretty good about it.

I use 3-5x times a week mostly because chase reserve gave me dash pass for a year. It’s definitely still 20-30% more expensive compared to pick up. I’ll probably stop using it once membership ends.

For the past 8 years, unless I’m at parent’s house, I’ve only ate out or picked up food. I did order Freshly for a year which is a pre made meal service. Thus, DoorDash has been valuable to me for the past year. I’m hoping the end of the membership will help me develop better habits

My wife and I use Skip way way way too much.

We both know it and freely admit it. We try but she's running her own business to keep a roof over our heads and I'm recovering from a spinal injury and it's just easier to order more often the not. I think I cook maybe 2 or 3 times a week and rest is either order or something like frozen pizza if I thought ahead.

I also get Dash Pass through my chase sapphire reserve. really hoping they choose to extend it...

The amount of money that gets added for delivery turns me off, it turns a ¥3,000 dinner into something like a ¥5000 dinner, and i don't like paying fifty bucks for one meal.. and that's like, an Indian set, pizzas here cost as much as a small family hatchback

I don't consider them unless they offer me a coupon or discount because the price mark up plus all the fees and tip make it way too expensive.

Just get take out if you really don't want to cook.

When I order delivery, I only use them, because all the local restaurants I loved within driving distance either closed down, changed management and went to shit, or I can’t tolerate anymore.

So the only way to get delivery for a wider range of restaurants is to use those apps.

It’s so damn expensive, I hate doing it. I prefer buying basic ingredients at the supermarket and just putting together a quick meal. I don’t have the time or energy to cook elaborate meals.

I've only done that when someone else paid. It's ridiculously expensive and poor service in my limited experience. Sure, I'll pay 25% more for cold food or messed up orders...not...

We cook most of our meals. The problem is not getting into a rut and finding lots of good food.

I've never personally used the service and my wife has used door dash.. twice?

I just go pick it up, something I see almost no one does anymore. They all got those door dash bags.

Also don't like the idea of a third party bringing me my food.

We also don't get take out much. We cook a lot.
