How soon are you jumping into the next generation of consoles?

With the Xbox 2's release on the horizon, and the PS3/Revolution releases not long after that, I wonder how long I'll keep playing catch up with this generation's games before leaving them behind.

I've still yet to own a PS2, so there are a great number of titles that I've yet to touch. And with the Xbox and Gamecube, 2005 should be an interesting year as well. I imagine that I'll adopt a new console about 6 months to a year after all three have been released, just to see what's on the horizon for each. This will also give me time to try some of the titles I may have neglected.

What are your plans for late this year, 2006, and beyond?

I bought an NDS and plan on getting a PSP (after the first revision of hardware). That is as 'Next Gen' as I want for the next couple of years.

I'm buying a PS3 at launch (might even be Japanese launch), and that's it. This generation taught me that I don't really need more than one system.

i'm not interested in Xbox 2, and even if i was a 2005 release is just far too soon. i just got a DS and PSP's around the corner, so i'm set for new hardware in 2005. It really depends on the lineups for Revolution and PS3. As much as i'd say i'll hold off on them, i'm sure i'll find a game or two for each that'll make me think otherwise.

Well I am thinking about

Getting the Xbox 2 at Australian launch (if the price is reasonable).

This should tie me over.

Then waiting for a PS3 Price drop.

And screwing Nintendo for whoring Mario!

Revolution and PlayStation 3 are my first day systems, and that counts first days in Japan.

Xbox has been a huge disappointment for me, so no Xenon for me... at least off the bat.

2005 is too soon for me.
Gonna wait for first price drop for Xbox 2 in 2006.
Launch PS3.
Maybe a launch Gamecube2.

Wow!

Xbox is the pick of my consoles this gen, the only genre it lacks is Platformers.

Why did it disappoint you CVX?

I think the logical thing to do would be to take a wait and see approach since we know nothing of next generation home consoles yet.

Just have to add the best thing about the PAL release being latter then the US/JAP launches is if the launch console is buggy as hell then you can dodge the bullet.

Playstation 3 - 1 year
Xenon - Launch, maybe... depends on launch titles and pricing.
Revolution - A year, maybe two.

I'll probably use 2005 to pick up on a lot stuff I've missed this gen.

I love Metal Gear Solid, and MGS4 is going to be exclusive for the PS3, so I will get that. Same thing for Revolution, the only place to find Zelda, Metroid, Mario, and other Nintendo exclusives.

I bet it was the whoring out of Blinx.

Blinx is to replace the master chief in the next Halo game!

Watch sales plummet!

What baffles me is why Microsoft doesn’t use there Banjo license?

It's also lacking in the good game genre.

and by good game, I mean japanese games.

I'll officially kick off the next-gen with a purchase of PSP.

I think I'll pass on Xbox 2 this year, several months down the line it's launch titles will be $30 and maybe there'll be a looming price-drop.

I plan on importing a Jap. PS3 on day one.

i'll buy xenon and ps3 at their respective launches. i'll buy revolution when a mario platformer comes out and i promptly forget how little i liked gamecube and n64.

I bought an Xbox because I was interested in trying out some western PC-style games, and because it's the most powerful console this gen.

Turns out I don't like western PC-style games that much, and next gen the Xbox 2 doesn't seem like it'll be the most powerful, which is why I'll probably skip it.

As for Revolution, I'm not a big fan of Nintendo's games, and the exclusives on the GC did not impress me, so probably no Revolution for me, either.

So it's PSP and PS3 for me.

First off, there were no Resident Evil titles. I'm also a fairly big Nintendo gamer, so scratch that out. Silent Hill and Onimusha are mainly PS2 franchises, and the GC and PS2 hold the MGS series.

The only things I liked on Xbox were Shenmue II and Genma Onimusha. And those two are ports.

Yeah, I'm a huge fan of Japanese games basically.

I'm sure something is planned, but the last thing Rare wants to do right now is announce even more games when they've still got two titles from E3 2003 that they haven't yet been able to pinch off and let drop into the bowl of retail.

Well the Xbox is as much of a metal gar console then the GC with MGS2: substance on it, granted its frame rate isn’t as good as its PS2 counterpart.

Like you said it has Onimusha, Shenume, Street fighter, most Koei games etc..

Generally it doesn’t have its own exclusive Japanese support but there are a lot of PS2 ports, so yeah if you own a PS2 most of the Japanese titles have already hit your console before the big black box gets them.

Probably not for quite a while. There are still a ton of games to play on existing games, so why drop a lot of money on new systems when they will come down in price by the time good games start being released on them?

Well it does have JSFR, which is really good.

and...breakdown, which is...interesting.

EDIT: it also has Ninja Gaiden, which rocks.

...and DOA, if you like shitty fighting games.

To be fair, the X-Box has Onimusha 1, Shenmue 2, and MGS2 Substance. While the PS2 has Onimusha 1-3 and MGS2, MGS2 Substance and MGS3. It's hardly a comparison. The X-Box isn't a Metal Gear console and neither is the Cube. It's very clear where the MGS franchise is really at home at. The same can be said about GTA even, I don't consider a system to be a "GTA console" when each new game it gets has been on the PS2 for about a year. In a year most people would have finished like 20 games or more. And "most Koei games" isn't an accurate statement either unless you're only referring to Dynasty Warriors. Koei makes a shitload of OTHER games and most of them are PS2 only. You also mentioned that the ports are usually less than stellar, so that's another nail in the coffin.

For the "next" generation, I'll be getting a PS3 NTSC/J on launch day probably, and I'll do with the X-Box 2 what I did with the X-Box this generation. Wait until it's really cheap or if my ISP gives it away as a contract renewal freebie. :D I'm sure there are games I want to play on it, but they pale in comparison with the support the PS3 will get. I'll probably get the Revolution on the same day a new Zelda game is released for it, just like I did with the GC.

I have a PSP now and I'll get a DS when there's a game I -really- want on it, then I'll pick up Feel the Magic for cheap along with the DS and whatever that game I -really- want is, if the day ever comes that is (never came for the GBA and I kept saying that).

That about sums up this generation and the next for me. :)

Depends on the games, depends on the price, depends on my willpower.

Except for the PS3 which I will wait a while for no matter what, I just don't trust their hardware.

All depending on launch titles, if there is a game I really really really want for a system at launch, I'll buy it at launch, otherwise I'll wait for something I really really really want.

Wow did you read my post?

so yeah if you own a PS2 most of the Japanese titles have already hit your console before the big black box gets them.

And that Xbox is just is much as Metal gear console as the GC, was in response to CVX saying GC & PS2 are MG consoles.

Well, MGSTTS is exclusive to the GC (for all intents and purposes). Substance isn't. Genma Onimusha is good, but Onimusha 2 and 3 are better anyway.

I'll try to get all three at launch, but it truly does depend on the launch lineups. I'm really eying with happens with Xenon.

I'll be waiting for price drops for both Xbox 2 and PS3. I'll get the Nintendo console upon release if it's cheaper like GameCube was or if it has a Super Smash Bros./Mario platformer at launch.

I'll be picking up Xbox 2 and PS3 on launch date.

Revolution will depend entirely on the launch lineup. Otherwise, I'll wait for a price drop on it to pick it up.

day one for every console. I know there will be lots to look foward to next gen, i just cant sit by and avoid the hype.

plus its new hardware, how can people not be excited??

I'm going to take a wait and see approach this time around. Neither the PS3 or Xbox 2 has any good launch titles that excite me.

Revolution on day one. As long as I have Paper Mario/Zelda/Metroid, that's all I need. I find that I don't have the time to play very many games anymore, so I'm gonna get the Rev to just fill those needs.

Xbox 2 when Halo 3 launches, most likely. PS3 when either Sly Cooper 3 releases or the greatest hits start rolling out.

Xbox 2 = BAM! DAY ONE

Revolution = TADOW! DAY ONE

PS3 = BOOYAKASHAW! NEVER

Well, ok. Maybe Sony will clean up their act next time, literally. The image quality and load times were just apalling for PS2.
