How soon are you jumping into the next generation of consoles?

I have a 30+ game backlog for this gen. I bought an (Crystal!) Xbox two months ago, so I've been starting to play the PH lineup on that console, which means I've been ignoring the new GC releases, and I haven't had the chance to play the new Xbox releases either...
I expect the backlog to last me until well into 2006.

I'll be preordering Xenon and PS3 the day a game store announced a real preorder program for them. Revolution, we'll see. Normally I'm not one to skip a console, but I managed to do without GC this generation, so there is a chance I can do without Revolution the next. So I'll take a wait and see on that one.

I will be buying Xenon first but i want to wait till the first price drop but if PGR3 is a launch title it will be hard to resist. :)

I want to say I'll wait for the first price drop on each one, but I know that I'll probably adopt at launch or shortly afterwards for PS3 and Xenon. I don't see myself buying a Revolution unless Nintendo fixes it's software problems. And I'm not talking about "OMG MAKE MARIO MATCHURE!!!11!!1", I'm talking about making a Mario platformer that doesn't suck. Hey, here's a REVOLUTIONARY idea: launch the system with it.

Revolution is probably the only console I will get a launch (which I will likely import like I ended up doing with GC). Nintendo consoles are the only ones which make me all giddy inside when I get them home and open them up for the first time. Probably because of Mario 64.

I'm very interested in the Xbox 2 though. Mainly for it's extra functionality other then straight gaming. Having a modded Xbox with XBMC and the amount of wonderful things you can do on it makes me quite interested in Xbox 2.

I've NEVER owned a Playstation console so I doubt I'll be getting one unless something dramatically changes.

It depends on how much time I have. I've never been interested enough to get a system at launch (outside the NES sorta) but I follow gaming closer now. I can think of properties on all 3 major platforms that would make me impulse buy and get into the hype. All 3 companies seem to have strengths that they bring to my gaming taste, and I'm sure all 3 will continue to do so.

<= £200 and at least one must-buy game. Or as soon as Halo 3 comes out for the X2. There's probably a few other games that would force a purchase of the others, as well - my gf would eviscerate me if we didn't have a Revolution when it gets a zelda game, for instance... although unless Nintendo are secretly beavering away on a Rev zelda in parallel with the cube one for next year, it'll most likely have passed below my price threshold before they finish a zelda for it anyway...

None at launch, I'm sick of getting burned. I'm going to take my time and decide which one has the games I want to play.

Revolution is a possibility, PS3 is a second possibility, Xenon can kiss my hairy ass. Fuck you Xbox that I never play.

Xbox 2 and PS3 launches. Buying the full arse warranty with both too. I believe these machines will be the worst ever with system defects due to the new tech. Avoiding the Revolution as the GameCube was my last Nintendo hardware purchase ever.

Xenon - At launch. I like the Xbox, so chances are I will like the Xenon as well.

PS3 - At Launch. This is a no brainer (if it has the same level of support as the previous 2 systems).

Revolution - Not likely, unless it is truely a revolutionary system.

Wow!

Xbox is the pick of my consoles this gen, the only genre it lacks is Platformers.

Why did it disappoint you CVX?
i agree it is also my pick, but i would add to that list RPG's. it's quite short on them as well. but it's no loss for me.

I will probably buy both Xbox 2 and PS3 at launch. I very seriously doubt anything from Nintendo will interest me, as it has always been that way for me. Never cared for a single game from Nintendo, and since they always lag with 3rd party, their system is not something I would want.

I'll probably be getting them all at launch. Xenon will be mine this year, and I'll grab PS3 and revolution as soon as they are released in the US, unless they are released like 9 to 10 months in japan before the US release then I'll have to import I guess.

Depends on the content. I'll probably wait a year and buy a PS3...probably not going to get any other systems (other than PSP).

I'm all Sony for now.

Just too much multi-porting these's days to be going crazy buying launch consoles, like others have said, just wait to see on the launch 1st party stuff.

PS3 - a year after launch (so that they can work out the kinks in the hardware otherwise I'd buy it at launch)
Revolution - at launch
Xbox 2 - never. the only reason I have an Xbox is because it was free. the same applies with Xbox 2.

I'll be picking up an Xbox 2 on launch. There's about a 10% chance that I'll pick up a PS3; and the only reason I can think of at this moment is for a future GT 5 or whatever game.

No! Just no Microsoft console again! Xbox was a huge dissapointment for me! No Xenon!
PS3 at launch! Revolution maybe after 2 or 3 years! That's it!

Geez, what kind of games do you like?

Id like to wait for pricedrops for ps3 and revolution but i dunno if ill be able to resist, esp if revolution really is something unique.

I'm going to take PS3 Launch Day off of work.

edit: I've got to go with Axsider on this. PS3 at launch, Revolution at $150. I was very dissapointed with the Xbox lineup this time around. I've got 6 games for the box, compared to 15 for the cube and 30+ for my PS2.

Xenon and Revolution both on launch days.

Playstation3.... wait and see what the quality of the machines are like. maybe will wait until a few revisions are done before buying. by then, a price cut or two will have occured, and games like Ace Combat 6 will be ready ^__^

One thing aging has taught me is that patience is a virtue. I just purchased Xbox this christmas and having much fun so far. What I may do, depending on my will power, is just bypass next generation all together, and wait for 2009-2010's latest and greatest systems. My gut tells me this up-coming group of consoles will be nothing more than a slight bump over what's currently available ( an nes to snes type bump).

I hope I'm wrong, but with Microsoft setting what could be a very fucked up precedent in launching extra early, I'm predicting PC style upgrades from here on out, and that can't be good. Instead of being blown away PS to PS2 style, it'll be SM World to DCK style. Sorry, not good enough!

It's ironic; now that I have the extra income as an adult to purchase whatever system, I'm being a cheap-ass bastard when it comes to buying systems and games now LOL.

Not getting anything until I know which console is gonna offer the most and prices go down a good amount. (most likely still gonna go with Nintendo for Zelda :P)

Yeah Xbox RPG’s are very odd; there are several great RPG’s but not much verity and depth. I mean I would take a Bioware RPG over a Square RPG any day but the Xbox doesn’t have the quantity that the PS2 has.

That said

KOTOR: is my pick of the RPG’s this gen

Morrowind GOTY:ED: despite it’s flaws has owned my play time for the last month+

KOTOR 2: isn’t out in Australia yet but has seen positive reviews/impressions but it seems it’s not quite as good as the original. (I will reserve judgment)

Fable: only played the game briefly and had a lot of fun running around town as a kid punching guards and causing all kinds of trouble. That said I am not buying it until it’s a budget title.

Jade Empire: Bioware is a safe bet for making a good RPG.

The console most certainly lacks some JAP Rpg’s. The two consoles (PS2/Xbox) go very well together if you are a fan of Western and eastern RPG’s

Which is really why I am planning to get a XB2 because we know elder scrolls 4 is coming out and it’s a safe bet the Bioware’s “next gen” RPG will be on the XB2. The PS3 should complement it well with good eastern developed RPG’s.

That’s depending on things not changing much gen, and if Nintendo’s “revolution” is real.

Xenon - Launch if, and only if, Perfect Dark Zero is launching with it.
PS3 - If it does everything it says it can, then yes at launch (for the graphic whore in me).
Revolution - Launch no matter what (for the Nintendo whore in me).

I just build myself a top of the line PC which should last me a couple years as well, and I even forgot about my DS and soon PSP. Too many games can be bad when I still havent even finished my University.

PS3 American launch. Any hardware kinks that arise will probably be worked out by the time it launches in the States. I'm one of those who never had any problems with the launch PS2.

i hate to bitch but ..
gf , money. lotsa left over games from saturn, dreamcast and PC (Soon AOE3 and Battlefield 2) plus on going 100+ ps2 games .

So its not so soon, i m sinking another 1/2 k on newer consoles.

i don't care what's coming out and when, I wont be buying any new consoles till sometime in 2006. If i have the will power i'll avoid buying any new consoles till the end of 2006.

All three day one, not wasting my time with Japanese release versions. The companies creating the systems have already convinced me that they can create great systems with a decent software lineup, any launch game announcements will only further cement my purchase.

I'll probably be limited to only buying one or two games at launch though. :(

This is gonna sound weird, but if the XBox 2 is backwards compatable, I'll be there day 1. If not, probably not for a year. I'm not ready to drop my XBox yet and won't be for a while. I just don't want to break out another tangle of y-cables. :lol

Depends on backwards compatibility. If I can replace the space any of the current consoles take up with their newer version, it'll be a lot easier waiting around for the games to start flowin'.

I don't really have many Japanese games in my collection so X2 is a must at launch and possibly PS3 at launch as well. I purchased a Dreamcast at launch and an Xbox at launch so I'm ready for X2. I can't imagine myself picking up the Revolution as Gamecube was a major letdown for me and I've never been interested in handhelds so.......

Now with Nvidia support and a later launch than Xenon (possibly moer powerful?), what if PC devs can get better gfx out of the PS3 than Xenon? That would be messed up, as we've become used to PC-based games to be shite on PS hardware.

Revolution for sure! PS3 untill price drop unless there is a Killer app at launch which i doubt, none of that Kessen, Dynasty Warrior shit. And no to Xenon.

When I get a XB2 my Xbox is going to still be used!

Revolution - At Launch, I know what ti expect from Nintendo systems and that makes me happy

PS3 - After some hardware revisions, Sony seems to have such a hard time with getting bugs out of their system before it launches that I just have to wait on it

Xenon - Who knows, I'm sure I will at some point but probably not till a few price drops, you know I have a PC and most of the major Xbox releases end up with better versions on PC, I can see this happening with Xenon too so we shall see when I grab this one
