How soon are you jumping into the next generation of consoles?

I'll pick up games as they drop in price, but I won't pick up systems until they drop to at least $150. I have a more than large enough backlog to keep me busy.

It really depends on the games. If I see at least two to three games that I REALLY want to get on launch, then I'll be picking them up on launch. If not, I'll wait till those games hit.

I say now that I'll wait til they're all ~$US200 (No more PAL for me), but I just know that I'll end up playing one at a friend's place or a store, and be unable to resist. It also depends on the quality of the software available at launch time and the period before the $200 drop. It's getting time for me to be a little more budget conscious, and make my money go further.

2005 is too soon for me.
Gonna wait for first price drop for Xbox 2 in 2006.
Launch PS3.
Maybe a launch Gamecube2.
Same here. Except I'm almost definitely getting a Revolution at launch.

Nintendo's at launch

PS3/XB2 first price drop, or I'm not sure yet which one to pick up ..

I'll stick with 2 consoles and a good PC just like this gen, so I'll have to choose carefully between XB2 and PS3

Unless Nintendo's new system is the Virtual Boy 2, I'm buying it at launch... as long as I get my Mario/Zelda/Metroid/Pikmin fix, I'm a happy gamer.

Launch Xbox2. Probably near launch PS3. And most likely wait for a price drop with the next Nintendo console, unless there is some game that I just cant wait for.

Xbox 2... probably really late in the game, if ever. Unless some Japanese support appears magically on the system - Mist Walker announcing a game for Xbox 2 that's just like FF back in the good old days.

PS3... the Sony systems have always been plagued with a poor launch lineup and lots of problems during releases... but they end up having the best software and taking no prisoners in the end... probably wait about a year, when all the good shit is announced and some good games come out (a new FF or some other good RPG for instance)

Revolution... If a new Smash appears at launch I'm sold.

I bought an NDS and plan on getting a PSP (after the first revision of hardware). That is as 'Next Gen' as I want for the next couple of years.

I have the same game plan plus my back log. I'll be content with waiting for price drops and a huge library worth getting.

So I can spend those extra hundreds on actual games.
I may crack and buy one of the platforms.
I am a multi console owner so I'll get them all eventually.

Well I know that unless I become suddenly wealthy and don't have to work in the next 18 months , I won't be buying any of them at launch. My Nintendo DS is enough for me right now and I have more then enough games on my current systems + PC that I still have to finish before worrying about buying yet another new console system.

Plus , there are advantages to waiting, I figure I won't buy any new system until 2007. Sure it's another couple years but by then we'll truly see what the differences are between all 3 consoles and any worthwhile games from each systems luanch will be buget priced by then + the systems could be as low as 200 bucks US a pop.

This gen I've been jewed out of cash on both my Xbox and Gamecube- the Xbox I bought a month after it came out with DOA3 and Halo and a second controller. I barely got my moneys worth out of it for much of its first year of release. Aside from the 2 games I purchased there really wasn't a whole lot I wanted that bad, and in that year better controllers were released , the system dropped 50 dollars in price and DOA3 dropped 40 dollars in price. There was also another game or 2 near the end of 2002 I wanted. I could have waited until that fall basically and saved 100 + dollars for what it was worth.

The Gamecube was far worse though, I decided I wanted one for the Resident evil remake and the next mario title among other things so I rushed into buying one at the end of march 2002, 2 weeks before resident evil came out. I hadnt' had a price drop at that point but only 6 weeks later at E3 it got one. Basically I wasted 80 dollars becuase I barely used the thing other then resident evil for most of that first year. Look at it now, I could get the system with a game and all 3 good Resident evil titles plus the other games Ihave on the system for about 50% of what I paid.

So yeah, atleast a year wait on all the systems for me thanks. It'd take a helluva a good exlusive game to get me to budge.

I'll be getting Xbox2 and PS3 at the US launch and maybe later a second time when they launch over here in Europe. The gamecube was such a disappointment that I'm pretty sure I'll not get Revolution before it drops to 99€ with a bundled game.

As for the handhelds I'll buy a PSP as soon as it comes out in Europe.

I'll wait and see, and pick one console. I have 3 this gen, and its hard to buy games for each. I want the best library so I'll see. My money is on the Xenon though for now.

I probably won't get a PS3 or an Xbox 2. I'm tired of that type of game. I might get Revolution. But only if it truly does offer a unique gameplay experience. I'm skeptical that Nintendo can do this, but we'll see.

Xbox 2 at US launch. I'll do my best to actually be there in Times Square for launch.
PS3 at launch, I don't know if it will the japanese one or the european one. It will depend on the games being released I guess.
Revolution I doubt I'll ever get, it will depend on the 3rd party exclusive titles since I'm mostly not interested in Nintendo titles except a "mature" Zelda.

The logic inside me says PS3 at Japanese launch, and the other two if they show some promise (I don't have much time to play anymore, and one consolewould be plenty)

HOWEVER,

I know that its more likely to be all three at launch. Nintendo have disappointed me with gamecube, but one Famitsu scan of mario on Revolution and I'll turn into a giggling wreck again (damn Nintendo's voodoo!)

and I don't know if the graphics whore in me can hold out against Xenon if there is a big wait until PS3.

I will get a Japanese import PS3, but will try and get PAL versions of the others (and PS3 later). I have a feeling being an importer will be much more difficult next gen, with lots of online games, potential IP/location checking going on etc.

Definitely not going to get anything until 2006. I love Nintendo, so I don't know how long I'll be able to go without a Nintendo system. Heck, with college, I don't think I'll have too much time for games, so maybe I'll just stick with just the Revolution, like I did with the Gamecube this generation.

PlayStation 3 on launch is my only definite. I'll certainly get the other two eventually, but when will be determined by lot of things.

I'll have one handheld and one home system within a year of their launches. WHICH I DO NOT KNOW.

Hopefully I'll get a PS3 on launch day.

I think I'll pass on the Revolution, but you never know for sure.
Xbox 2 Im not interested in.

I'll most definetly be picking up Nintendo Revolutions on it's launch day / week. Since I'm a poor female bastard with next to know money, I'll have to resort to sticking with the company I've always had faith in - Nintendo.

...Ya, ya, I'm a big nintendork, so what :lol

I grabbing the XBOX Xenon at launch, never really a Sony fan. Not sure about NintendoRevolution, I enjoy online gaming and we all know Nintendo doesn't go out of their way to give us that.

Wow did you read my post?

And that Xbox is just is much as Metal gear console as the GC, was in response to CVX saying GC & PS2 are MG consoles.

Sorry, your avatar was distracting my brain! (yes lameass excuse i know :D)

Revolution at launch. I'll probably camp out a few hours early at the store (Toysrus) again too.. it was a hilarious scene for the GC launch.

Might add a PS3 if I have a more stablized income. I have a bad feeling about the hardware for some reason though. At least Pana is reassuring..

Yeah! totally! unannounced Xenon game = teh suck!!1
No! Just no Microsoft console again! Xbox was a huge dissapointment for me! No Xenon!
PS3 at launch! Revolution maybe after 2 or 3 years! That's it!

I always say that I'm getting them after the first pricedrop or until the good games come out, but when I'm in the store looking at all the pretty colours and making Mario jump around or something, I just can't wait anymore.

So no predictions for me :)

All depending on launch titles. No PS3 though. Sony sucks. Yeah, I hate sony. There crap is always broken at launch titles, and I don't trust their hardware.

Xbox 2 will hopefully have some decent launch titles, I will def. get that xbox 2.
If Revolution has one decent launch title (SSBM2? I wish..) then I'll wait for first price drop.

How do people decide if they are going to buy a console on the first day when they dont know ANYTHING about them? What happens if there are no decent games coming out for them or if the console turns out crap?

For me, it depends on the launch. If the consoles have a big title game coming out, I will get that console.

For me I need to see atleast 2 out of 3 things within all next gen consoles to lure me in for a purchase.

#1 GREAT Sega support.

#2 Lots of 3rd party support

#3 GREAT online gaming.

Right now in terms of which to buy first I'm leaning towards Microsoft and SONY next generation because they look to meet atleast 2 out of the 3 pretty well.

I'm probably going to skip out on the Xenon this year though. Seriously I have a backlog that won't quit. I'd feel like I'd be short changing myself by cutting it short. I hate missing out on the new generation thats about to rolling in,but for the first time in over 15 years I don't think I have to have a new console asap.

Depending of the money. I will jump to PSP in few weeks and will wait for DS until the european lucnh.

I hope to get a USA Xenon when it´s avaliable. And will buy japaneses PS3 and Revolution as soon as possible, but I doubt it´s more than some months from launchment.

At this stage I am a definite on the XB2 even just for elder scrolls 4!!

Plus “unofficial” Bioware title!

I am not a PC gamer anymore so I can’t get my Bioware fix anywhere else as it stands!

Revolution and PlayStation 3 are my first day systems, and that counts first days in Japan.

Xbox has been a huge disappointment for me, so no Xenon for me... at least off the bat.

me too. Mostly wanting quirky Japanaese titles + SRPG + RPG + wait, everything else. :)

Assuming there are good games I want, and assuming I have the money, I'll pick them up immediately. Hopefully I'll be able to import from the US and still use online services, and such, because I really don't want to be waiting till late 2006/2007 for the machines.

Maybe a PS3 or Revolution in 2007ish. Maybe.

Right now, I don't plan on buying any of the new consoles.

Is it that difficult to expect more of the same but with better graphics/AI/features ? I mean it's quite sure that we'll have a racing game at launch for Xbox 2 (let's call it PGR3), a FPS (PD0 ? Something else ?), a fighting game (DOA4), you name it...
Same with PS3, a new Tekken, a new Ridge Racer, then a new GT...
Of course if a console launched with only shitty games, then hopefully no one would buy it. Hmmm, I guess the PS2 launch proved the contrary. Nevermind :D

I'll wait until it feels right. Buying a system at launch, it means high potential for rushed games, faulty hardware and high price. I prefer to play the waiting game, because I know I'll be a winner in the end.

Depends on software. If they have games where world feels alive, you can explore, etc I be there day one. If it just more mass media crap like just FPS and sports games I wait it out.

Blimblim, are you going to fly from France to the states to pick up your Xbox 2? Do I miss something? Because if MS is not paying your tickets to promote the console launch then you are way too hardcore.

What are your plans for late this year, 2006, and beyond?

Probably not jumping to the next gen at all. With my dwindling interest in videogames and all the games I theoreticaly want to play this gen (Prime 2, RE4, Legend of Zelda 2005, Pikmin 2) I will probably skip Revolution all together. Doesnt help that I will be unable to spend that much money on a console for at least the next 3 years and considering by that time I will be deep into a masters program I probably wont have the time anyway.
