Those thieves paid as much for the codes as I did.
Unless you are also a thief, no they didn't.
But then again, maybe you are. Who's to say in this thread, where one can openly flaunt their desire to steal.

If I'm ever in a life threatening scenario and I need to steal to survive I'll be sure to remember that.

The name-calling's going a bit overboard...
lol keep going this is good.I'm pretty disgusted by all those trying to justify their fraud.
You don't like the system? Don't support the game by continuing to play it, you self-entitled shitheels.
I bought Red Bull, not Destiny codes. The Destiny codes were like the toy in the cereal box.
Real talk is seldom polite.
Excellent metaphor. The toy is included as it quite literally raises the value of the box. By taking the toy you lower the value of the package without lowering its cost.
You've described a theft.

Anybody putting a form up on the internet needs to think exactly this. And you can never trust the client. You're asking a corporation to assume that their users are a bunch of theft-minded dicks.
I started off with 'asshats', then got carried away with the redraft.Yeah you self entilted shithells! You are way worse then us corporate shills. Let's fight the consumers together!Shitheels? C'mon you can do better than that.

I think you are taking a small thing and turning it into a very big thing. I wouldn't consider people who do this "morally bankrupt". I would call their actions in this specific case to be morally wrong, but not in such a way that I am in any way disappointed by their behavior. It may be different for you, but you'll have to excuse me for finding your language a bit dramatic.
Except the toy is digital. Contact the cereal company and get another digital code.
No I'm pretty sure I've been paying the same for my Red Bull for a long time. There is no value attached to the code so I literally do not care that someone typed in a random code that happened to be mine. I'd classify it more as hacking than theft if we are going to get into a semantics argument.
The reasons why you would steal does not change the fact that stealing is theft, and it is wrong.
Digital or physical is irrelevant when considering theft.
Have a method of recompense is also irrelevant when considering theft.
This isn't a semantics argument. There's no argument to be made. This is by definition theft. You don't mind, fine and dandy for you. Doesn't change the facts.

Given Bungie's history, they will probably apologize to everyone whose code was taken by selling the mission for $9.99 or so.

Theft would be someone coming into my house and stealing the Red Bull for the code.
Some people used a code before I could. I don't really care, I can still get my XP buff. Those thieves paid as much for the codes as I did. You seem pretty upset, maybe a nice Red Bull Total Zero will help your nerves.
I'm only looking at it this way-- If I paid for a can of Red Bull and my code didn't work because of a massive online operation surrounding stealing said codes, I'd be pretty freaking mad. And you're telling me I should be mad at Red Bull first and not upset with the people actually stealing my code? Uh huh. I'll say again, "they made it so easy that I couldn't NOT steal" is not a valid defense. My god! This may be the best post I've seen in awhile.
Thank you.
Precisely my thoughts. It's sad that the assumed behavior is what's ended up happening, is all, but people do need to understand where the blame begins. The attitude of "they were stupid and thus it's fine to punish them" is ridiculous however you might try to spin it.Anybody putting a form up on the internet needs to think exactly this. And you can never trust the client.
That doesn't absolve hacks. The bad/worse actors here are the ones exploiting the code-gen, but its still a cardinal sin to expose easily cracked systems to the wide world of the internet.
I sincerely hope anyone that purchased a can and had their codes stolen (like the individual described on Reddit, linked below ) report them with pics to RedBull and Bungie. Thereafter they drop the banhammer on people that previously redeemed any such codes.

The next time somebody asks, "why do companies treat their customers like criminals?" remember this thread.

You are confusing "cost" and "value". Cost is what you are paying for an item - that's the price. Value - is what the item is worth to you.No in both the case of red bull and in the case of the cereal boxes there is no change in price between the normal product and the product with the code/ toy
the value of the box literally stays the same

Its not semantics. Its theft.
The red-bull can is being sold with a code. The code is part of the deal. It is absolutely irrelevant if you personally think the code is worthless. You are taking a part of the product that the the person buying the can has paid for in full.
Like you said, its like going to the supermarket and removing the toys out of the cereal boxes and kinder surprise eggs, and then saying it doesn't matter because you don't like toys anyway.
By using a code you have fraudulently generated, you are stealing some kid's digital toy - for which he or his parent have paid in full. The only difference is that taking some one else's code in the current situation is a lot easier with 0 chances of getting caught.

However, once the theft is done, what can be done? Why are we not trying to rectify this?
Why hasn't any of you contacted Bungie yet? Red Bull yet? Show me what they say about this. I'm so curious. Ranting about theft isn't going to undo the theft. Please contact the companies and see what they say. The amount of words it took to type most of the responses here, an email could've been shot to Bungie, or a tweet, or a message to Luke Smith on GAF, or outside GAF, or anywhere.
Bungie Support Page.
Q:What if I have an issue with my Red Bull Quest code?
A: Please speak to Red Bull customer support for any issues regarding code issues:
Not condoning blatant theft is all I ask.
I don't work for the police, nor Bungie nor Red Bull. I doubt any of us in here do. Its not our responsibility to "undo the theft," but we shouldn't sit by and actively encourage it. And we shouldn't distribute detailed instructons on how to steal.
Also, I guarantee all parties are well aware of what's happening.
"I don't like this promotion so I am willing to fuck over anyone attempting to participate" is a pretty terrible mentality.
the answer is the same as "why do companies treat their customers like shit?" and that's shareholdres bla bla the customer is the product.
Your avatar is breaking copyright law. You are a criminal too.Actually in this case its that they are, literally, criminals.
That's cool. I'm not going to argue against your beliefs. You have yours, I have mine. It's whatever.
Your avatar is breaking copyright law. You are a criminal too.
Are you insulting your belief is along the lines of "theft is alright?"
Ok, serious question: why? What justifies stealing, here and now, in this situation?
Do you really believe this?
Criminals deserving of being sent to virtual prison as a timed exclusive.Actually in this case its that they are, literally, criminals.
Price does not equate to value. No in both the case of red bull and in the case of the cereal boxes there is no change in price between the normal product and the product with the code/ toy

Fair play. I'm from the UK, you see. 'Ass' is an Americanism which doesn't sit as comfortably with me as our native 'arse', so I tend to shy away from it.Ahh, you should've left it. Asshats is definitely funnier.
This Red Bull mission is gonna be Bungie's best work, I can feel it.
