Saw this over at BoingBoing and found it amusing.

Cocaine's a helluva drug!

I can't believe he ordered all of that food. Food was the last thing on my mind whenever I was coked up. The weed to counter, or even out the effects of the coke wouldn't really make me hungry either.

No wonder he killed himself. He must have contracted some kind of serious medical condition following all those years of unhealthy behavior.

His suicide note:

Football Season is Over said:
No More Games. No More Bombs. No More Walking. No More Fun. No More Swimming. 67. That is 17 years past 50. 17 more than I needed or wanted. Boring. I am always bitchy. No Fun – for anybody. 67. You are getting Greedy. Act your old age. Relax – This won’t hurt.

Have you ever read one of his novels?

I've read Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. I guess I can see how being that fucked up can lead one to write that book. I guess it's an accomplishment that he could even write sensibly with all that inside of him, assuming that he wrote that on the routine laid out in the article.

Addicted to casual drug use.

He's my favorite dead human being. If you find yourself intrigued by this genius, you should watch Gonzo: The Life and Work of Dr. Hunter S. Thompson. It's narrated by Johnny Depp (who was one of his best friends)

"...He told me 25 years ago that he would feel real trapped if he didn't know that he could commit suicide at any moment." i think i can strongly identify with this.

This was on reddit a few days ago and it was determined to be pretty much bullshit. He was a freak of nature according to his doctor(no liver damage after decades of severe alcohol abuse) but not even he could have handled this.

Lots of people would like to be able to identify with things Thompson said or wrote.

That suicide note is something else. I would post it on my FB page but I wouldn't want any of my non plastic social network conducive friends to think I was about to off myself.
