Hyper Light Drifter |OT| We On A HyperLight Beam

I'm sorry if this is clarified somewhere, but I could not find a definite answer.

So I got the HLD email with a link to the Humble Bundle preview keys. This isn't the full version of the game right? I backed for 2 PS4 copies, so I was a bit confused when I was given Steam keys....

By the way you do NOT go back to the game after finishing it to clear up collectables like someone said the other day. It drops you in the main menu and when you continue you are in the room before the last boss

Yeah, and you can warp out (or leave the room then warp out).

That's what I did. I finished the game, saw the ending and credits, resumed game, outside boss room and left and went back to finding the stone tablets and keys.

What's wrong with that? You can still backtrack wherever you need to go. I just tried it.

Played this for about an hour or two. The combat in this game is fun. I'm using the kb+m controls and, so far, my only complaint is that the direction of your attack is tied to the mouse direction. Even though I can manage with the default controls, I wish I can set it so that the character attacks in the direction of the movement keys.

I don't understand? That is going back. It counts that you've beaten the game, and when you load the save you're just before the boss and can just teleport out and continue collecting everything you missed.

So I am in the East. Got three diamond pieces so I'm trying to head to the boss. Apparently I'm supposed to go south of the warp thing but directly to the south is still blocked off by... blocks.

Where do I go to get rid of the blocks?

Anyone?

Maybe I'm crazy, but I tried to teleport back to town when loading that save and it wouldn't let me. I had to backtrack a bit to the entrance, which wasn't a big deal.

I beat the game so I don't remember exactly, but you can't go at all south from the warp zone in the east? There's a three-triangle door right there.

Weird. Either way you can go back and continue collecting stuff, and then beat it again if you want (no changes there unfortunately).

The game is well designed about nothing being missable on a save file despite no manual saving or whether you beat the game or not. I've got to give props for that as it can be extremely annoying (looking at you Ori, pre-definitive edition).

Yeah not at all. I see the door though!

Finally got to playing this, god what a gorgeous game

Okay, East and West done and now working on the north. I just got to the warp point in North and North overall feels balanced with enemies compared to E/W. E/W always had a feeling of too many enemies to add more "depth"

Right now I have the chain dash, bomb, shield dash and sword dash. Sword dash is probably my favorite. I just bought charge sword but haven't tried it yet.

Go through the door with the 3 corner pieces right below the warp point.

Trying to find all those pesky missing fragments, and I have lots of fun with all these optionnal zones. What a lovely game.

On the other hand, I gave a try to the Ng+ mode: nice cape but only two healths ? Nope XD

Yeah but how do I get to that door? There are blocks that block the stairs going down to the door...

Hm,
go east from the warp point then underground south. After the last "arena" fight (with the plants, plant dogs, and snipers), take the elevator up and it will bring you there. When you get close to the blocks from that side they disappear. At least, that's how I remember doing it.

I'll give it a go and let you know. Thanks!

I think I originally did that area first. Wonder if it screwed up the scripting or something.

That did the trick, thank you!

I'm really enjoying the game but I feel like something about it is making it feel kind of repetitive. Maybe it's the music since it's pretty much the same the entire time I've played it so far.

Man... The way the secrets are laid out are just awesome. It feels so good once you figure out where things are on your own. I'm up to 10 Keys right now. I went back to East and it's amazing how much stuff I missed for just not looking for nooks or hugging walls.

oof, the way the camera sort of wobbles around when you move (it having momentum) combined with the slight judder I am getting with camera movement has actually made me a bit dizzy.

Mouse+keyboard controls mandatory, guys?

God no. Nope, nope, nope.

Dashing and melee attacks are far easier on a pad.

Keyboard and mouse is useful for cheesing a certain challenge. I guess it's also better for precise targeting with firearms but I haven't felt the need for that more than once or twice in the entire game.

Running in windowed mode actually removes any frame pacing stutter from the game. I've contacted Heart Machine about this so hopefully they release a patch with fullscreen windowed mode soon.

Edit: Just got a response actually!

This is a fantastic suggestion. Thanks so much for digging around and reporting back on this. We're going to try this tomorrow!

Fingers crossed.

Awesome!!

had no problems at all. Just putting this out there so some people dont think this is a general issue

What graphics card are you using?

I'm not one to throw shade around to cause havoc, but this is the first game I've had issues with and it's extremely frustrating. I've reinstalled the game, updated graphics card drivers and even re-applied thermal paste to my heat sink in case it was overheating. :p

GTX970, i5-4750, 32GB RAM.

Just finished the game. First of all, how is there no achievement for that? Seems like an oversight or just a poor decision. ANYWAY.

What a trip. From start to finish I was captivated by not only the expertly crafted locales and atmosphere, but also by the intense, sweaty-palms, tough-as-nails combat and gameplay. I probably bit the dust at least 50 times over the course of my playthrough and at times I was pretty frustrated, but overall I enjoyed every moment I spent with Hyper Light Drifter. It really had an excellent combination of fighting, exploring, and just figuring out the game (which was done very well considering just how little information you're explicitly given). There were also so many just gorgeous vistas that really made me want to stop and sit down for a second to admire the scenery (thankfully there's a sit button, and they fixed the screenshot interface).

Overall, I probably clocked in around 6 and a half hours with a good amount of searching for collectibles and backtracking. A worthy amount of time for a game of this price and scope. Admittedly I did want to get the done by Tuesday in time for Enter the Gungeon, but I can see myself coming back for 100% completion or NG+. But really, to think that I had no idea of this game's existence until two days ago is just unreal. This is exactly the type of experience I look for in a game, from the mechanics down to the scenery. As for the story aspect of that experience, I loved that they gave you so little but made it feel so powerful. When
your pink drifter buddy died
at the start of the final area, it was a real bummer. And then of course the ending
being so bittersweet with your own presumed death, which admittedly I suspected after the third or fourth time you keeled over coughing up blood
. This was absolute a game that will stick with me for a long time to come.

Now for the negatives, which are almost entirely gameplay based. By the end of the game, I was positively sick of getting one-two comboed because you have almost zero invincibility frames and get knocked on your ass so often. I can't tell you how many times I got hit by two two-damage attacks in a row with virtually nothing I could say about it. In addition, the multi-dash seemed really finicky, especially in the heat of combat when I needed it most to evade enemies. And of course that map. I'm not too upset with how unhelpful it was for exact positioning, but with almost no marking on it at all other than modules, warp points, and bosses, it's almost impossible to remember where anything is. Which is a big problem with that poorly designed key system. I know its all extra content and you don't need a single one to finish the game, but I was bummed when I got my third key and couldn't remember for the life of me where the 3 Key door I passed at some point was.

But despite those complaints, this game is absolutely a 9/10 in my books. It's the adventure of Zelda with the atmosphere of Metroid with some of the best combat this side of Dark Souls and boss fights that make your fingers hurt and your adrenaline rush. Just an all-around phenomenal package and one I could recommend to almost anyone.

Also, the charge slash is OP as fuck and the chain dash challenge can go to hell.

Hey guys, I'm stuck on how to get this door open in the west dungeon. Can anyone tell me how to open it? Here's a picture of where I'm stuck:
You can't from that side.
You need the laser gun from what I understand and then you can activate the podium to the north in that same area.
I only know this because I spent 30 minutes to an hour trying to figure it out and thought my game might be bugged out.

I am so close to refunding this. The checkpointing is such garbage. Fuck up with a puzzle (fire tiles) and resets all the progress I've made and encounters I got through on that level. This game's got a style to it, but the encounter design is ridiculously brutal.

edit: fuck it, refunded it. I don't know about this game, guys. It looks cool, it sounds great, but the actual playing part I'm not feeling at all. Glad most others are enjoying their time with it, but it's not for me apparently.

The check pointing is weird, but just exit/enter from any door and it will save.

Example: kill everything before puzzle, leave at any door you have access to and re-enter. Everything will be dead and you can work on the puzzle.

Enemies only reset after warping and certain sequences.

That's actually something that varies wildly throughout the game. Some areas you'll find yourself set back by 10 or 15 minutes, while others will actually surprise you with checkpoints you didn't even notice you passed.

Want to refund it but I played for more than 2 hours. I tried anyways though. It really bothers me that stuff I was excited for in the trailers isn't in the game. Same with the stuff I thought would be in it from the Kickstarter page. I just bought it because I thought that stuff would be in it. The world feels shallow to me. The exploration isn't that great and I can't quite put my finger on why. Advertising it as a mix of Zelda and Diablo doesn't seem quite accurate. I regret buying it without doing more research and playing it without being careful to time myself. Waste of money and time. I have no incentive to continue playing it. It's got a reeeeally nice coat of paint and the music is alright but the gameplay and exploration are meh and the fact that a lot of the Kickstarter promises weren't delivered on (BIG surprise) grinds my gears. Really can't believe I didn't just look it up, I didn't want it spoiled.

I asked that they do this days ago and I never got a fancy response. :( I hope they implement a borderless window option soon.
