I am a repeat offender. ( AKA: I've bought 10 versions of the same game)

I'm the same when it comes to Megaman games, I've got pretty much every port/variant out there for my collection and I've played most of them through (still working on the GBA RPG's). I own 10+ different copies of X3 spanning the Snes, PC, Saturn, Playstation etc.

I have purchased and sold Xbox One 3 times, each time I'm still disappointed, I'll probably buy it again around e3

Why?

Man, I wish I could tell you, I easily fall for the hype and am an impulse buyer

I just can't imagine why you bought three versions of REMake HD. It's not rare, or a physical version. That seems really weird.

I dont care about rarity, I had so much fun playing the JP imported copy that I wanted to play it again for the 10th time on PC...and then the PS4 so I can play it with remote play and play it for the 100th time whereever I go.

I think the only games I've bought multiple copies of were indies when they released on new platforms, and that's just about supporting small devs if they made a game I liked a lot, like Fez or Dust.

I bought 6 copies of Snake Eater over the years. I would buy it again if it came for current gen consoles.

I was going to say that I can't blame you for the awesome games you have listed, but then I saw RE CV, 5, 6, and Revelations.
:P
At least you don't have multiple copies of Zero.

Is there are reason you're buying several copies of a new game at launch like with REmaster? I can understand console+PC and new versions coming out over time, but yeah, getting multiples of the same generation of copies or even on the same system is odd.

Btw, I like your new avatar Jawmuncher.

Yeah I ended up stopping on buying multiples on Day 1 though.
Did that a few times and realized unless it was a CE with a actual chance of being gone there was no reason to. Also thanks.

Metal Gear Solid was my addiction.

MGS1 PS1
MGS VR Missions
MGS Twin Snakes
MGS PSN
MGS2
MGS2:Substance
MGS3
MGS3 Subsistence
MGSHD Collection(MGS2, 3, Peace Walker)

About to double dip on MGR and GZ for PC as well, and V on PC and maybe PS4, if I can't talk my self out of it by then.

My guilty pleasure are witcher,
Bought witcher 2 from every digital store that has it,
And already pre ordered it from
Amazon - collectors edition
Steam - normal ed,
GoG - preorder and i was pissed that they lowered the price because i had the first two there 😒

Why?

I do this with Final Fantasy and Metal Gear Solid games.

Though I don't think I've gone over 6 copies of a single game, the worst offender I think would be FF1, original NES copy, PS1 collection release, GBA version, PSP version, PS3/PS1 classics, and WII Virtual Console. Playing it on VC was kinda of a interesting reminder of how archaic the game was, since they changed a lot with the later versions.

i don't understand what drives people to do this, you guys could be buying nice food or even alcohol with that money

Im a chef, I can survive.

I dont drink.

I'll wait for a sale, use coupons, buy used whenever it comes to buying extra copies.

It's like if I see a new game that barely came out just that day, and then I see a copy of RE6 that i dont own for $10....I'll buy RE6 and play that version for the next two weeks.

I've bought Minecraft on lots of different devices. At least 4 times. I have a horrible feeling I'm not done yet.

I bought Wolfenstein on PC and PS4 and double dipped on Gears of War on Xbox 360 and PC.

That's about it.

Metal Gear Solid 2 PS2
Metal Gear Solid 3
Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence
Metal Gear Solid: The Essential Collection (MGS2: Substance and MGS3: Subsistence are included)
Metal Gear Solid: Peacewalker
Metal Gear Solid: HD Collection (HD versions of MGS2:S, MGS3:S, and Peacewalker)
Metal Gear Solid: HD Collection Vita (Vita versions of MGS2:S and MGS3:S)

When it comes to MGS2 and MGS3, I keeping buying them over and over again.

Also,

Mass Effect 360
Mass Effect 2 360
Mass Effect 3 360
Mass Effect 2 PS3
Mass Effect 3 PS3

And then I got so mad about the Mass Effect 3 ending I traded all of them in

And then I started missing the series and bought Mass Effect Trilogy PS3.

That's the absolute worst case for me. I've done some other ones but not as bad as MGS and Mass Effect.

I have purchased and sold Xbox One 3 times, each time I'm still disappointed, I'll probably buy it again around e3

Apologies for singling you out as I'm sure you're far from the only person doing this sort of thing, but I feel like this is a borderline-serious problem that one should really get a handle on before you find yourself doing it all the time. It's just a colossal mismanagement of non-trivial amounts of money. You've probably eaten an extra console's worth of money in losses already.

I have trouble re-buying a game I already own, even if I own it on the original Gameboy and will never actually play again on said hardware. I did get Link's Awakening on my 3DS, but only because it was a Gold reward with Club Nintendo, therefore "free".

The only exception are online-focused games like fighters. With those games, I appreciate the different batch of competition. Even then, I'll wait until it's on sale.

Demon's Souls - three copies - Original NA release, Greatest Hits, PSN

Diablo II - I don't know the exact amount but definitely double digits. My wife and I keep losing them

Chinatown Wars: PSP, DS, iOS

Minecraft: PC, PS3, Android

I've owned every iteration of Street Fighter II that I could get my hands on. I was addicted to the game in the 90's but can barely stand it now. Still I find myself buying it on things like iOS hoping it will reignite my love for the game. Silly of me to think that a button-less mobile version would get me back on the wagon when the HD version from last gen could barely hold my interest.

The one I've bought the most has to be Persona 3, I've bought:

Persona 3
Persona 3 FES
Persona 3 FES PSN download version
Persona 3 Portable
Persona 3 Portable PSN download version

I also have

Persona 4 PS2
Persona 4 The Golden Solid Gold Edition
Persona 4 The Golden standard edition
Persona 4 The Golden PSN version

And I have most of the recent NISA releases in LE and standard formats

i'm the exact same, I have bought

FIFA 15 - 4 times (XB1, PS4, PC, VITA)
GTA V - 5 times (XB360, PS3, PS4, XB1, PC)
CoD AW - 2 times (PS4, XB1)
Far Cry 4 - 2 times (PC, XB1)

I have friends who play on all platforms so I end up spending a fortune so I can play with everyone!

There have been lot times I've replaced copies of games with different ones. Getting rid of a console version and picking up a PC version, for example.

FFXIII Trilogy - sold them all, buying PC versions.
Valkyria Chronicles - sold it, buyiing PC version.
Sonic Mega Collection (GC) - plan to get rid of it, have all the games on PC.
Dissidia - got Duodecim cheap, plan to get rid of the original.
Xenoblade - imported the PAL version at release, plan to get rid of it since I have a NA copy.

I've also replaced many of the NES/SNES/N64 games I care about with VC versions. Still have some of the carts, but I'll probably sell them off eventually.

The only games I really have multiple copies of I actually intend to keep are the Metroid Prime games. Have all three original games plus Trilogy.

Kingdom Hearts 2 :

1. Japanese import because I couldn't wait any longer
2. EU Version
3. The recently released 2.5 HD remix because I've never played BBS

I technically own 3 copies of MGS2 and 3 if you count the Sub-versions and the legacy collection

Is this the metal gear collection thread?

mgs 1 on ps1
mgs 2 on ps2
mgs 3 on ps2
mgs 2 substance on ps2
mgs 3 subsistance on ps2

metal gear rising on ps3
metal gear solid legacy collection on ps3

mgs HD collection on Vita (both physical and digital)

Mgs Peace walker for ps vita (Via PSN)

MGS Collection
MGS HD Collection
MGS4 LE
MG Acid
MG Acid 2
MG Portable Ops
MG Portable ops 2
MGS digital graphic novel
MGS Peace walker
MGS HD collection Vita

This is just off the top of my head. I'm fairly sure I've bought every single MGS branded SKU that has come out in America.

I can understand buying a remake or a hd port but buying the exact same game across 3-4 platforms strikes me as a very unhealthy obsession with gaming.

I think Super Mario Bros. 3 holds the distinction as my most-times-dipped game with 6 times...

NES: Original
Super NES: SMB All-Stars
Game Boy Advance: Super Mario Advance 3(?)
Wii: Virtual Console & SMB All-Stars Anniversary
Wii U: Virtual Console (upgrade from Wii)

And with the recent release of Resident Evil HD Remaster, I guess that's getting up there too at 5 times...

PSOne: Original and Dual Shock Edition
GameCube: REmake
Wii: Resident Evil Archives, REmake
PS4 (& PS3, cross-buy): Resident Evil HD Remaster

I thought this was gonna be about Super Mario Brothers 1, but Resi 2 did get a lot of releases.

For Super Mario Brothers 1.

Black box-NES
SMB/Duck Hunt--NES
SMB/Duck Hunt/Stadium Events--NES
Super Mario All Stars--SNES
Super Mario Brothers Deluxe--GBC
Super Mario Brothers NES Classic--GBA
Super Mario Brothers Wii VC
Super Mario Brothers 3DS VC
Super Mario Brothers 25 Anniversary All Star Disc--Wii
Super Mario Brothers Wii U VC

I've bought Halo: CE multiple times over.

1) First time, Xbox.
2) Second copy, long story, eventually given away.
3) Halo PC for online play during run up to Halo 2
4) First copy was stolen, replaced
5) Anniversary edition on 360

There have been a few other games I've bought 2x for a variety of reasons, but Halo is the only one I've bought more than that.

I was hoping you really bought 10 versions of the same game.
MrWIz2a.jpg
what can I say? they're cheap...

When I got into PC gaming, I rebought a lot of my 360 games so that I could have better version on the PC, but I sold the 360 versions because I didn't need them anymore.

The only time I'll ever really have two versions of a game is when I want to get an HD Remake, the game is available on another platform with better performance or features (in which case I'll sell the inferior version), or if it's available on a handheld system.

I'm thinking about buying the Metroid Trilogy on Wii U digitally even though I have the disc, mainly just to support the game, but also to have it on my system at all times. Otherwise I don't really see much point of buying an identical copy of a game on multiple platforms if they have the same features or performance.

People like me!! I'm not alone!

I don't have time to list them all right now but pretty much every metal gear game i own 3-4 times. Sonic games go up to 6-7 copies each(mostly for the older ones) and almost anything I enjoy on console that gets a pc port too.

I have an issue...

I have this problem with MGS games, I have every release of Ground Zeroes and even some duplicates for the same platform (for example, Japanese/English for Xbox One), or MGS 1 (PS1 physical EU, PS1 Integral JP, PC release, PS1 PSN digital PAL/US and digital integral)

My worst case has to be MGS 3 though

PS2 Snake Eater PAL
PS2 Subsistence EU
PS2 Subsistence US
PS2 Subsistence Japanese
3DS PAL
PS3 HD PAL
PS3 HD Digital PAL
360 HD PAL
360 HD Digital PAL
PS Vita PAL
PS Vita Digital (granted, i don't really count this since it's through PS+) PAL

I recently got a Japanese New 3DS XL and im tempted to get the Japanese 3DS version from the eShop.

I'm getting this way with Deadly Premonition too, I have

Deadly Premonition 360 PAL
Deadly Premonition Directors Cut PAL Digital (again, through Plus)
Deadly Premonition Directors Cut US Digital
Deadly Premonition Directors Cut Steam
Red Seeds Profile PS3.

I bought Ratchet & Clank Into the Nexus twice, but just because I forgot I had it preordered on Amazon and bought it digital on release date, derp.

I also bought 2 copies of Ys Memories of Celceta but it was kinda of an accident because I didn't know that the silver anniversary edition existed when I first bought it.

As well as

Demons Souls - 3 copies 2 physical (NA-LE, EU-LE) 1 digital (PSN)
Dark Souls - 4 copies, 2 physical (PS3, Xbox360) 2 digital (PSN, PC)
Dark Souls 2 - 3 copies 1 physical (xbox360) 2 digital (PSN, PC)
Bayonetta - 3 copies , 3 physical (Xbox360, PS3, WiiU)
Bayonetta 2 - 2 copies, 2 physical WiiU and EU climax book edition

Im not going to count fighting games in this otherwise the list would be ten times longer. Im looking at you Blazblue.

Weird considering Dark Souls never came out on PSN...

I double dip with Metal Gear, Kingdom Hearts etc. But I always sell off my original copies. Ex: I had every kindgdom hearts game complete on their original systems but I decided to get 1.5 and 2.5 HD on PS3 and sell off the originals, I wasn't gonna play them again anyways.

Final Fantasy X - 8 copies

FFX - Ps2
FFX greatest hits - PS2
FFX international - Ps2
FFX/FFX-2 Hong Kong Collectors edition - Ps2
FFX/FFX-2 HD remaster standard edition - ps3
FFX/FFX-2 HD remaster Limited Edition - ps3
FFX/FFX-2 HD remaster Collectors edition - ps3
FFX/FFX-2 HD remaster - Vita

Once the ps4 version comes out i will have 9 versions of the game.I'ts my favorite game of all time though. I actually prefer the ps2 versions because the faces are much better. The hong Kong Version is the best, it has english dialogue and all international content.
